Anyone just given up on looking for a new GPU?

What a day absolute carnage everywhere that has comments on. We all knew it was coming yet most seem shell shocked.

I noticed last few months people almost buried their heads in the sand in regards to the energy crisis, I was going to ask are gamers or miners even remotely worried but you could see people just didn't want to think about it, let alone discuss it so left it.

Guess one just has to buckle down and adjust to it as best they can.

The former is the worse buy for me out of the two, dunno why you would hold out for a Ti when the regular 3090 has been easily available compared to the other tiers.
Possibly but the price of the 3090 was a little too rich for me. In the end I just went for it. It's likely to still be worth a fair amount in a year or so

Meh, running the card mining eth pays for the power usage during mining (usually at night) and for the power usage when using the PC normally AND leaves some money over as well. But that's as a mining on the side thing, for the real mining operations for people with warehouse & the like, things are still groovy, their electricity prices are radically different.

I agree, but seeing as the Ti launched months after the take on it was just bite the bullet and game, its not like the Ti was much cheaper and if you get AIB it was likely more expensive than the FE.

The same reason I bought the 3090 over a year ago. Played for a while and managed to sell for a profit which paid for the 3070, which I found not great.
At the moment, prices are falling on some models. Even the quoted price to sell for CeX dropped about 20% for the RX 6600 which I managed to sell for what I paid, as I don’t want to take chances on eBay.
Went for the 6800XT which runs very cool and performance is more than enough for me, possibly lasting for a while.
Last GPU I bought that gave me the same feeling as a good investment was the HD7970 for 300 quid. 3 years of happy gaming, eventually requiring few compromises in the last year of ownership, but a decent card after 3 years.
As I mentioned before, certain models are more reasonable now. The RTX 3070 TI which was at some point at a eye watering 1.1K can be found at 800 quid. Not great, but not a highway robbery as before.

I hope so.
The casual mining which helps to offset some of the price of the GPU or minimize the scalped margins, fair play. The individual buys one GPU mainly for playing and when not needed, put it to work.
Not the kind of consumer causing shortages or a burden on the national grid.
Now with new energy prices and current coin prices, I don’t see the whole thing as inviting as it was before. Eventually prices for the coins may, or may not, bounce back. But I struggle to see someone depleting their savings to start such enterprise.

I managed to pick up a INNO3D 3080 GTX for £999, it was described on the website (and still is) as a 12GB card, got it today and it's a 10GB card. Now I'm in a quandary do I return it or keep it given the lack of decent priced cards and the very small performance difference between a 10GB and 12GB card. OK I know there is some future proofing there but to be honest I'm not a hard-core gamer, just thought it was time to swap out my Vega-64!

This.

In tandem with most enthusiasts and keen gamers having hold of a card by now (16 months into the gen) there will be barely any small time miners bothering to 'mine' in the UK since the major electric price hikes recently. People have to adapt and start accepting the scalper era is much worse than it used to be, you can blame the retailers for some of it but the largest hurdle are the bots buyers with scalpers (who don't want the hardware just in it for a fast buck) soaking up the stocks.

Well i fought with the idea of a 3080 but the 10gb vram was just not future proof enough for me as i expect to keep he card at least 3 - 5 years before upgrading. I even considered missing out this generation all together but i had already done that with the 20xx series.

When the 3080ti released at 1049 i thought that it was rich but really considered it as i paid 899 for my 1080ti strix 5 years ago. The rest is history as they say and i ended up with the 3090.

Sore subject mate. :)

@LtMatt

The 16 GB Radeon RX 6800 XT is cooler, quieter, probably cheaper, does offer better image quality, has more features like modern driver software user interface, Radeon Image Sharpening that runs beautifully in 2D in Edge browser.

It isn't like anyone forces you to buy a 10 GB card and there are no alternatives at all.

Good price for the card, assuming warranty. The misleading description sucks but it's no big deal otherwise.
