Anyone just given up on looking for a new GPU?

Or maybe AMD just can't contend... in raytracing and AI upscaling

Was a common thing in them times mate. Recall the 5700XT was the AMD comparison and that line was what all the nailed colours to the mast responses. You see with Big Navi they did close a gap, and without the FE drops it would have been a good fight. Just amusing when even if AMD offered a matching counter it makes no difference when mindshare is embedded.

I managed to pick up a INNO3D 3080 GTX for £999, it was described on the website (and still is) as a 12GB card, got it today and it's a 10GB card. Now I'm in a quandary do I return it or keep it given the lack of decent priced cards and the very small performance difference between a 10GB and 12GB card. OK I know there is some future proofing there but to be honest I'm not a hard-core gamer, just thought it was time to swap out my Vega-64!
Pretty crazy good deal in the midst of this market, better deal than my INNO3D 3070 for 865 in comparison to the performance delta. Nice find!

I've noticed MLID using the term 'Mindshare' lol, makes marketing sound sinister :D

Here is how mindshare works for me personally.

I bought a 5700-XT it sucked and failed to work properly.
Moves on, took the L selling it and used a perfectly working R9 280X then a GTX 970 then upgraded to the RTX 2060. Take any guess as to why I did not choose AMD? Because the issue was massively wide-spread and all most AMD consumers could give a toss about was their own experience and how it went for them whilst calling people like me.. honest buyers incapable of using a PC etc...

Even when AMD came out and said there is a major issue.

I went to Nvidia not because they are better but because the experience offered in the end is much more suitable, I am paying for a product, I don't sleep with it.

It turns out DLSS was the better choice when deciding where to go from the RTX 2060 as well as the superior RT performance.

I did have an issue with my RTX 3070 as you can see detailed here: https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/t...monitor-to-start-sucking-after-time.18946920/
Completely fixed by troubleshooting what was clearly logical.

Here is the history of my Ebay sales.

People who use "mindshare" as their argument defence are usually dumber than bricks in most arguments as the debate is centered on themselves.
My situation here is based on those who were hit with nothing but ******** from retarded fanboys who could never get over themselves and have something they purchased look bad.

The RTX 2060 sits in my brothers PC, I could have sold it for a lot of money but felt like passing on the goodwill.

Here is how mindshare works for me personally..

AMD could have gained a lot more 'Mindshare' with ZEN3 and RDNA2 if they hadn't have been greedy twots and upped their prices across the board. They forewent the 'Mindshare' for profit.

Personally I've been lucky, never had a GPU i've regretted buying from either Nvidia or AMD, on the other hand i'm in the industry, have never been a fanboy and researched a fair bit before buying. I wanted RRT but skipped 20 series due to the tech not quite being there at my price bracket (2060/2070), didn't condsider AMD at the time because.. no RTT. AMD RRT is equivalent to 20 series this gen so Nvidia it was, maybe 7000 they will catch up in RT or heavens behold offer something new (their REBAR implementation is impressive) and innovative.

I'd return it and hold out for a 3080 FE.

It if was the 12gb then I'd understand but knowing you can set alerts for the FE version I wouldn't pay £350 more

Your 1st mistake was taking a deal on with a an early exit charge, 2nd mistake - Variable tariff.

My "new" supplier went bust literally the day the my switch went through, I still managed to get on a fixed deal, I simply circumvented their processes (ie they tell you to sit tight and not do anything so does Martin Lewis), so I did not wait for the new supplier taking over from the bust supplier to just plonk me on the price cap. I set up my own 2 year fixed deal and then a couple of emails later told them what I had done and would not require the "price cap tariff account" they were setting up for me.

The thing is it's not a gamble in this case because a) There's no risk involved as yiou are not tied into a deal and b) We already knew last Autumn that the prices cap was again going through the roof in April '22.

Elec prices have already made mining less profitable, after the April rise it will be even less profitable, no-one is saying mining is going away "any time soon" - but any rise in energy costs will have some effect as it has already.

Simply the best deal at the time happened to have an early exit charge - this was a 2 year fix which paid off really well as in the last year we were on a tariff 25% cheaper than the best deals on the market, hardly a mistake!

My actual mistake was not paying enough attention to what the market was doing before it was too late, though as I mentioned, I would likely have been bounced back into a variable tariff anyway. Yes I gambled not fixing when the deals were coming back to market, however, in the 4 months or so we've been on the variable tariff, we've saved considerably over a fixed deal that was available to us. Yes it's going to sting a little when the next cap comes into effect, but in reality, the new cap will only just push our tariff costs above what the fixed deals were offering us months ago. So I don't believe it's as clear cut as you're making out, the energy companies put a lot of effort into making sure they make their money off you.

It'll be interesting to see what the following generation of GPUs does with regards to mining capability/efficiency. I imagine they'll strive to improve them in that area as it's clearly a very lucrative business to be in, from both a point of sale and money printing perspective.

Yeah but it was £999, that's why I grabbed it because description was a 12GB card, this seems a fairly decent price for a 10GB card?

I'm not telling you to return it immediately. I'm suggesting you contact the retailer and tell them you received something that wasn't advertised, and see what options you have after talking to them before making a decision.

so whens 2023 start again.

so painful watching people pulling hernias while performing mental gymnastics over why cards that are still nearly double their rrp are a good deal.

At this point, I'm cautiously optimistic about being pleased to purchase a second-hand 3X series card early next year. Hopefully a 3080, which will still be a good upgrade from my 1080Ti. And I may also be able to purchase 'Elden Ring' on sale. I'm able to drop idiot pounds on a graphics card, but I'm far from willing.

Just seen there is a rog strix 3080 lhr on the website for 1699£ but again they keeping there back order money and have no intention of honouring the pre orders almost 3x price of a msrp. Get your money back and never come back this place is a scam.

You expect them to sell you a different model card at a loss of hundreds to what you ordered?

Maybe you should ask another retailer if they are willing to do the above for you. Please report back so we can all go pick up £700 3080 full hash rate cards.

I know it's not ideal, but the current situation wasn't foreseen when they opened pre-orders, and I think ocuk has been reasonably transparent by posting updates in the pinned threads etc. They also upgraded a number of people to OC versions of cards, which they didn't have to do.

They should probably have refunded everyone still waiting by now, but anyone with a back order can cancel - it's hardly a scam, it's just that some people are still holding out hope that they might miraculously get hold of one of the original cards at RRP.
