Anyone tried AudioSurf? New game on steam . .

Played a bit more and this is really poor still @ detecting individual instruments and thus going my the proper rythm.

I've tried everything from 128 kbit mp3's to 741 kbps ''Windows Media Audio 9.1 lossless VBR Quality 100, 44 kHz, 2 channel 16 bit 1-pass VBR'' and the thing really can't properly detect rythm or speed, it only detects loud/silent but doesn't care about instruments, whatever it says during loading a song about detecting isntruments is a bunch of ****, imo it almost completly ignores important stuff like drums :p.
 
Well it doesn't ignore it completly, but it takes dances on other stuff instead like singing or some background instrument you wouldn't otherwise notice.

I just think that even my wmp visualization moves better to the music than audiosurf :p.

Bleh mine works fine on most stuff. Its crap on really loud music, stuff thats just distorted guitars and heavy drums all the way through. But that kinda music is boring to play on audiosurf anyway.
 
I've tried song like ''john miles-music'' and ''the eagles-hotel california'' and the ammount it speeds up when he sings ''music was my first love'' is ridiculous and goes back to very slow after it again, the song itself was slow and stayed slow, yet audiosurf saw the small boost in total volume a reason to speed it up 200% :(.
 
I'm confused - Someone beat me at Placebo - 36 Degrees on mono pro and I got every block, Stealth and Clean Finish - He somehow got a match 11 and I didn't

Does that mean he's got a slightly different version of the song to me or something? his was 1 sec shorter but the graph looked the same.


edit: ok, so I just checked, and the version on Once More With Feeling is mainly downhill, but the one on Placebo is all uphill and there's way less points available. (even though they sound the same to me)

it was the Once More With Feeling version I think we've both been getting decent scores on - is it possible that a different rip would have slightly different traffic?

Missing a block can definitely get you more points sometimes.
Example, if you've collected some like this, where Xs are blocks and _s are spaces

Code:

X_X

By collecting one block in the middle and coming to a gap in blocks you could end up with:
Code: 
___
X_X
XXX
and that would be the end of your combo.

If you instead missed that block and came to a huge cluster of blocks you could end up with
Code: 
XXX
XXX
XXX
XXX

as opposed to
Code: 
_X_
_X_
XXX
XXX
if you collected them on their own, which is the difference between a match7 and a match11

Which is still a lot more points than collecting them both separately regardless of the match bonus, as they increase exponentially by combo size.

Yes, definitely. From a programmers perspective I imagine it would be very difficult to write something that generated the same traffic for two completely different rips of one track.

It would be cool if they did it all serverside somehow, so that we all end up with the same traffic. But again, I struggle to see how it would be implemented.
 
is it possible to change a setting anywhere so that it uses MY "My Music/Documents/Desktop" instead of looking for Dylan's (I'm guessing that's a Dev or something)?

Or is it just a bug?
 
maybe it's a vista thing? are you on XP?

or maybe it's cos I'm running steam out of a folder that's on a different hard drive or something.


I'm getting frustrated now, I'm sure I've done everything you need for spotlight finish and it's not giving me it :(
 
I'm in love with this game! Mainly because, i used to listen to music, but get bored, now i have something that utilizes the music to make me un-bored! Its very good! :p

however, it says the friend browser is off line? Is everyone else's?

Just scored 5112 on ''scorpions-the winds of change'' in eilite mono mode.

(Yes I know it's a terrible score for this song but who cares :p?)

YAAAAY 24 k on wax- right between the eyes :p/
Suxx compared to my record of 35k.
but still, I hit a million of greys while playing mono XD.

29 k on noob mode (white background ione) mono on ''take that - shine''.
