Anyone Using an Asus DSL-AC68U

In theory it should be fine with the Asus as JUST a router, though theory with this device is not always the reality ;)

I doubt there will be too much you can do as you are only achieving 6Mb up and 27Mb down. You are likely interleaved to the tune of 16ms-32ms. Unless you had vastly superior results before the Asus then i would not be shocked if its basically performing as best as your line can.

However it has been stated that only the modem side of this device is giving issues and, it seems, mostly with certain VDSL connections in the UK. As an access point, although expensive, it is a very good product and far better than the rubbish supplied by ISP's.

It's a pity that this router wasn't made with the modem and the rest being able to be removed and replaced so you could simply replace the modem which certainly is the problem.

Ran mine with a BT OR modem for a good while before finally returning it - it worked great. As a long term solution its expensive (paying for the modem that you don't use) - but my plan was to sit tight till they fixed the modem.

I changed my mind because - small thing - it was a real nuisance losing one of the LAN ports (to connect to the OR modem). My set up is each of the four router ports feeding a switch in different parts of the house - they were all spoken for. But for that I'd have sat tight because the router side of it was great - config, wifi, everything.

So if you can do without the 4th LAN port and have an OR modem, sit back, relax and enjoy not worrying for a while!

Well before i was put on a new line just over a week ago i was getting 34mbps down and 8mbps up with a 8-10 ping.

Define what you mean by new line? Have you moved, was phone line replaced, had a pair swap? Something else?

Its routing ability and wireless range and speed is why i still intend to get one and try to fix the xDSL side because with that working as well as its other functions it would be a killer device.

The BT man said he put me on a new line at the exchange.

BitsNbobs,
Good luck with that but I get the impression that many have tried but got exasberated by asus's seeming unwillingness to not only fix the issue but even to acknowledge that there is one. Even OC seem to have given up as well. If it is a simple case of just recoding the firmware then I wish you every success and keep us all posted, I admire you for your attitude. I, for one, certainly feel more comfortable going back to using the OR modem and that I will have, I hope, my speeds back up to where they were.

Yeah, it's ridiculous. Ignoring the abnormally high FEC which is no doubt causing DLM to stop positive changes occurring while it's happening, mine can't seem to keep sync for more than two days on the latest unofficial beta firmware at the moment.

It gradually gets worse, e.g. rate of ES+SES rise gradually to a point where the modem loses sync. Once it's re-synced it's fine again for a day or two.

I have noticed this on the latest beta firmware aswell and DLM has knocked my line back now with SNR now set at 8db. I have returned back to the ECI modem now as this seems to hold the connection a lot better.

Put mine back from the beta to the last official release, don't know if it will make any difference but it reassures me. I had a wan reset at about 04:00 on the 24/2 but it could have just been a normal event.

Pair swap most likely then, i wonder why they did that if your old connection performed better speed wise? Did the line have any issues such as noise? broadband disconnections? Or did you want your phone number changed?

Thanks, as soon as the return is fully sorted and credit card refunded im gonna order from a more well known supplier this time, even if it costs a few quid more. Will just flog it if i do not get anywhere with the firmware. Hopefully though it will be positive news.

Just a quick question.

I've had it nearly a week now, and I've not had any issues.

I'm not sure if there's any settings I'd be better off changing there?

Also, with DLM am I fine to reboot after 5-6 days or is it better to wait until at least 7 days have passed? I'm hoping to reboot for a higher d/l and u/l rate.

I left my modem off for about 30 mins at a time, not rebooting it, and no more than once every 24 hours so as dlm didn't keep lowering my speeds.

I sure wish mine was as stable as that. What version of the firmware are you using?

I just had a massive 2000~ CRC spike this evening. I've even tried reducing the Rx AGC to a setting of '1' (default/disabled is actually 394 for VDSL when I check TC Console). This reduces my sync rate and for a while appeared to reduce ES/SES, but not so confident now after only 9 hours of uptime.

Looking at your stats, your downstream attenuation is similar to mine so you must be getting quite a bit of crosstalk. I'm 10.2dB and if I leave everything default I could sync at 80Mbps fastpath with an attainable of 86Mbps~ to 90Mbps~, except errors on this device won't allow me to maintain it. I'd say you're at the best sync you're going to get based on the fact you appear to be fastpath and not speed banded on the DSLAM (SNRM 6dB~).

I've just given it the 30 minutes off reboot, and it's pretty much exactly the same.

Apart from the first install speed of mid 70mb, I had a 60 to 70mb DLM about two weeks ago, but I had to swap over to the 612 I'd purchased and it kicked me back to 60mb. I assumed that maybe it would reset again at some point.

What I really need is ES/SES so I can see how much I have, pity this doesn't do them, or have I missed a telnet command?

I'm using 3.0.0.4.376_2160-g7518072 currently.

This is the fresh boot if of any interest.

I must say I've downloaded over 100gb today due to backups, most of which where on the previous post.

In terms of crosstalk, Fibre's only been up in the town for about 7 weeks, and I wouldn't imagine more than 50% would even be interested in fibre. The cab's a 288 Huwaeii, and there's three of them in the town. Population of 3,000 but it's the main cab, so say it serves 1,750.

We do live in an area where there aren't many neighbours thought, so I'll do some reading on crosstalk.
