Anything wrong with this job application?

In my opinion he knows how to spell, and can write a properly framed covering email. He may not have a CV but could look up a template and type something up in a matter of a couple of hours.

He just wasn't bothered, or felt the job wasn't worth the effort - what kind of attitude is that to take when asking someone to employ you?

Good point.

Whether it's an application for a shelf stacker in Tesco or project manager at IBM you should always make the effort. If you don't somebody else will.

Also it's worth noting that the same applies for interviews, you may feel a "tool" going to tesco's in a Suit for job as a shelf stacker but you do stand a higher chance of getting the job.

People these days need to spend more time and effort when it comes to serious things like job applications/interviews.

I was always told to dress and act like a Manager or Director when applying for jobs or at interviews.

As already mentioned - "hiya". Who on earth starts a letter that way, especially a job application

I also didn't like....

"...quite outgoing, will talk to anyone...."

lazy writing and hardly likely to impress anyway :o

Other than that, not totally awful. Definitely needs work though ;)

This is one of the better e-mail applications I receive almost daily and is quoted word for word with the exception of the personal data in square brackets. Can anyone work out why this person is unlikely to even get an interview?

For me, apart from the over familiarity and the poor gramar, the applicant has not sufficiently demonstrated the skills or requirements asked for any of the positions applied for.

He/She has being being building computers for a long time yet quotes the least relavant. If you want to quote just one, then at least quote something that demonstrates an ability to build current tech, and say who it was for and that they are happy with build for what reason. What is the proof that He/She can recognise relevant hardware faults, what was the fault, what was done to rectify it? Accedemic qualifications are asked for in the adverts, where is either the proof of them or some demonstable reason why if they are not attained, they are not required? Own transport is asked for (for a reason probably - Perhaps OcUK is miles from a public transport route), this requirement needs to be met, if he/she doesn't have own transport, do they live close enough to bike/walk in?

Mainly though, for me, decide which job you want and go for it. Applying for all three is a bit Yosser Hughes. (for those that remember)

Its a 26 year old retard spitting out lies.

There thats my assumption, next candidate please?

Apart from the awful spelling and grammar the fact that he has applied for 3 jobs in the one email.

If he feels he is technical why apply for the warehouse operative job, strikes me as very strange.

You are either capable of doing the Technical job therefore apply for it or only capable of doing a warehouse job with the persons current skills.

Also in the advert on the OCUK job section it mentions about having 5 GCSE's at grade C or above, he hasn't even mentioned this!

Total lack of research and grammar.

Thats not a bad covering letter, but I've made it the way it should be ;)

Hey bud,

I am a student at [city] Uni studying Digital film and 3-d Animation. I am sending this e-mail as i feel i would be suitable to apply for more than one of the vacancies listed on your website. I have a reasonable knowledge of overclocking computers, and tbh i can recognise relavent hardware and ascertain software faults within windows, well it's not hard to work out what the BSOD is lol. i have been building rigs for some time now, my first being a pentium 2 with 64mb ram, 20GB HDD, and a 64meg ATi card machine back in 2nd grade, lol. I currently live in student digs, but would have no issues commuting to work, company car permiting.

I am a good team player, quite outgoing, will talk to almost anyone and i can work unsupervised where needed, but i would prefer to be looked after. i have loads of customer experience having worked in the retail sector for some time, and imo i care about high standards of customer service, and will understand their needs and try to accomidate as to the best of my ability. I am 26 years of age, and have worked within the computing industry before several times cos tbh i cant hold down a full time job for longer than 2 months.

I apply for the Tec-001, sal-001 and war-001 vacancies, in this email, as i can't be arsed to send 3 e-mails and it would be irrelavent as you can read my semi decent profile within this one. lol

I hope to hear from you soon bud,

[name]
[mobile number] - so you can txt me

I am a good team player, i usually play in midfield, quite loud and obnoxious, will talk to anyone even when i should be working and i can work unsupervised where needed, although i might not get as much done. i have plenty of customer experience having worked in the retail sector for some time and all my customers were happy with the fries i supplied with their burgers, and i care about high standards of customer service, i even gave them straws, and will understand their needs and try to accomidate as to the best of my ability, especially if they are hot girls. I am 26 years of age, and have worked within the computing industry before several times, usually being sacked for browsing OcUK forums or looking at porn, so i dont last long.

The truth behind the gloss? :p

The original question has been answered many times so I'll just say it would be very entertaining to see more of these.

How does a 26 year old university student have time to do a full time job? I knew standards had dropped in education but still........

Full time at uni can be only 2 days and of those 2 days you may work as little as 3 hours a day.

To give the thread more variety I was out for a meal at a restaurant last year and this girl comes in looking for a job. She goes up talks to the owner and says.

Girl: Got any jobs?
Owner: None at the minute but we might have more for summer.
Girl: (Annoying whiny voice) Aw, but I want one now.
Owner: :\

The person has started the letter with 'hiya', to put it bluntly i would shoot them for that. The person may aswell have said 'Wots up homie, wots goin down'

Also where is thier CV?

P.S. Can we see some off the bad applications please just for the comedy of how stupid some people can be.

Sounds desperate for any old jobs going at OcUK, lacks basic English grammar and spelling skills.

Here is my reworking of the original letter :o:

If you do not know the name of the person who will read your letter, you should use the ending "Yours Faithfully".

Too true. Theres always someone out there better than you, which is why you should make the effort.
