Aorus/Gigabyte X570 - Buildzoid Ripple tests with AORUS & ASUS

Wanted the Taichi but tomshadware review states it is noisy which is a big nono for me. Would buy the Aurus Xtreme but nowhere in the uk has stock so looks like I will not be ordering anything today.

Crap - haven't had time to do specific board review search - what was the setup?

@orbitalwalsh @tamzzy - as you know this was one of the main factors for me waiting, but wasn't expecting fan to be mentioned other than allaying pessimists fears :/

/this pessimist goes off to find review...

It sucks as there is not very many in depth board reviews so most of the people who are ordering today are doing so blind. I'm one of those people who research the hell out of any purchase before taking the plunge.

Yes, that review is ambiguous when it comes to fan noise - if you took it at face value it would lead you to believe the fan is a definite issue (it might be):

The PCH fan is factory configured to run at full speed, and even though it’s fairly quiet for its size, its nearly 6000 RPM makes the PC sound like it has a GeForce 2 constantly running Quake 3.
**** - but a predictable auto setting with release, plus, we heard its potential to annoy with that deliberately, annoying fan demo leak. But in the conclusion...

And then there’s the fan whine, which isn’t loud but can certainly be annoying after what seems like endless hours of use.
This was after a manual setting applied (implied in cons list) - although lower speed RPM not specified and if needed. Really wasn't expecting the fan to be audible/semi-passive.

Best to wait for more reviews on boards if you're noise conscious - which i very much am.

wait a week and you'll see post (or lack thereof) complaining about the fan noise and then can make a judgement lol

Now leaning towards this.

With the heatpipe connected across the VRM's and the PCH fan will only have to spin up under heavy loads.

nah, if i were to get a 2700x. it'd be preowned.
That's what i meant (poor wording, my bad) - there are a few out there that have made the jump purely for the fun of playing with new architecture and they usually sell priced to get rid.

Yes, definitely, not enough info to make a judgement - way too ambiguous. My thoughts leading up to release is that it would be a none issue - just begrudged its presence - but surprised it was mentioned in review at all. But, then it does grab the readers attention.

Forum members will soon let us know - but the fact it has to be manually set (if the same for all boards) will make sifting through the 'relative and subjective' conclusions harder to gauge. Need some in depth Gigabyte board reviews - when i say boards i mean specifically the Pro and Ultra.

Plus, you have easy access to the fan to rip it out :)

yeah. the thing that would stop me getting a 2600x/2700x is that the single core performance is only slightly higher than my 3770k. probably wouldn't be worth the outlay.
purely from the performance standpoint, the 3700x/3800x does that (core doubling and also single core perf boost), but when taken into account that i'd need to get mobo and ram...suddenly the price/perf isn't that much better.

B550 M-ITX with 3800X/3900X price drop in 6 months time.

As you mentioned, you should be able to pick up your memory for peanuts in the coming weeks (although DDR3 2400Mhz not so common :/)

common enough on the MM...i've seen it floating around...
Yeah, was why i scrubbed it - did a quick search out of interest while posting and a surprising amount of hits in first half of this year. Bodes well for your promiscuous populace - even if they do all have syphilis. That's the DLC mod you need - the STD DLC :D

Feel bad for peeps , did tell them that ryzen and board stocks would be huge as people thought, or they were huge but it would sell !

@tamzzy wondering if the 16 core will work it's magic on you ?

@Plec ... Ordered master yet and not told a soul ?

Still think the battle will be 10nm and 7nm EUV next year ... This is just the start of the war :D

@GIGA-Man looks like boards have flown off the shelf !

The Taichi seems to be priced between the Elite and Pro, didn’t expect that and it’s not come up on my previous research. Thought I’d settled on a gigabyte board

Are you referring to the confusion over the Taichi pricing?

If you're not aware (but from prices i think you are) there's a supplier that's selling them £100 less than OcUK - even Gibbo is suggesting you buy them while they're still available.

No, i'm being boring and biding my time - and changing my mind with each review i read.

I've just waxed lyrical on a 'budget spec me thread' about the merits of buying a MSI B450 paired with a 3600 and 3200MHz memory - and although it's regarded as budget it's going to produce premium performance coupled with a decent GPU. If it wasn't for the PBO i would probably do this myself but with a 3800X and b-die sticks - but doesn't sit right with me, i want all new spangly bits, plus expansion. But, would be fun to see what it could do with updates (BIOS still in BETA)...

But, no denying the bang for buck is incredible - and if there's a hint that the x570 fans are audible and can't be crippled without voiding warranty (my intention if needed and safe to do temps wise) then i'll be looking out for leaks of the b550 as even if they do adopt PCIe 4 - my hope is that its limited inclusion wouldn't need a fan. @tamzzy - our nonchalance may pay off yet!

@Plec I went for the Taichi in the end. If it arrives I'll report back on any fan noise. Pairing it with a 3700X, £300 saving over my original plan which will go towards a modern monitor that has more than a DVI connection!
