Aorus Owner's Lounge

So, once again I have re-ordered the v5, I really hope it would be flawless. Will be receiving tomorrow.
How do I get the additional warranty and following listed items?
Regards

Send an email to Atom with the serial number, for the gifts, same thing, ask Atom, I'm sure he will reply here :)

The customs delay was returning the old one. When I realised it was going to be caught up in hmrc hell I decided to buy another one and change the first one from replacement to refund. Hopefully should hit Overclockers this week.

If it's any consolation, I tested it with f1 2015 in 3200x1800 ultra detail and it clicked 35-40fps. Personally for such a portable machine I didn't think that was at all bad!

Received the package today, connected it to power supply, turned it on, and failure.
The brand new machine is unable to show any display. The keyboard lights up, the battery, Bluetooth, and the wifi lights also turn on but no display.
Is this a joke? another dead machine onto my fate.
Completely blown away by the disappointment AORUS, HONESTLY.
So far, its the second time I have been presented with a faulty machine, Please AORUS, don't offer any free gifts, just provide us with a quality product which passes the quality control and testing standards, so the customers are pleased.

:(:(:(:( Hi w4r_m4chine,

This is incredibly disappointing and the machines despatched to OcUK were 100% Quality passed, so something has gone awry in transit.

Please arrange for this to be RMAd back to OcUK in the exact status as it is now so it can return to HQ to analyse.

If you want exchange unit we ask permission for the machine to be checked over by OcUK before sending to you, but if you want refund we fully understand.

We sincerely apologise for this unfortunate turn of events.

Regards,

Team AORUS

Does the "X3 PLUS V5 13.9" QHD IPS, Intel i7-6700HQ, NVIDIA GTX 970M 6GB GDDR5 Gaming Laptop" have thunderbolt 3 via the USB C?

Will the other models X5 and X7 be upgrading to Skylake any time soon?

I'm now really stuck between this and the Alienware 15 :confused::confused:

I'm not liking the posts about failures? and bugs etc.

Would I get the goody bag also, with the 3 year Warranty?

Trust me, you wont like the weight and thickness of the alienware 15. I currently own AW15 r2 with NVIDIA 980M, the performance, UHD display is awesome but I am unable to travel along with it, specially with a 650grams PSU.

I am working on a very favourable discount with them as I get student discount with alienware and not with OCUK, I would love the Aorus, but being able to claim back the cost of warranty and accidental damage from student finance due to my dyslexia is bringing the price lower than the Aorus....

I can deal with weight.

The Aorus looks amazing, but I still need to look after the pennies as they say and student discounts are not to be sniffed at especially with the money back from student finance.

I must say, after reading the thread it's not really making me want to push the button and buy one of these machines. The reliability and the lack of Thunderbolt 3 is putting me off a little, plus the fact that I might want to go for a Skylake X5 instead.

In saying that though, hats off to Atom80 for some great customer service, as well as the guys at OCUK. Despite the issues mentioned above, I am still interested and this says a lot for your response and speed in trying to deal with some of the issues brought up. :)

You run rings around the MSI rep, with whom I have been a bit disappointed. He could learn a lot about customer service from you.

It's like anything - you only see how good something is when things go wrong. Was it disappointing? Of course but these things happen. I like the fact that everything was pushed through and I personally had above and beyond the call of duty help from OC to get my unit out of customs hell.

However the laptop is simply stunning. If you want ultra-portable then I can't fault it or find a better system.

How would you rate that system? I've been offered a good price to buy one, I am so stuck between the two, I love the look of the Aorus X3 V5 but also love the spec of the Alienware 15 and the price I can get it for, plus Dell has its Business heritage and the fact that there is an abundance of Alienware Laptops in

The Big BANG Theory

:cool::D:cool::D:cool::D :rolleyes:

I think its going to be down to the lack of a Thunderbolt 3 port that's going to kill it for me! :(

The more I think about it the more I think about when the e-GPU is released and it gives something like the x3 v5 which is super sexy, slim and light the graphics power of a desktop computer meaning I could have my monitors all set up with the e-GPU etc. and just plug in my laptop and off I go.......

Alienware has the Alienware graphics amp but now also the Thunderbolt 3 so it can use either one.........

But the weight.....

The Alienware 13 is under spec'd compared to the x3

Then there's the new XPS15 but the morons put a 2GB 960 in the thing with a 4k screen

Then there's the build issues with the x3 through this post...

HELP-What Do I Do?

Think carefully what it is that you are trying to do.
Thunderbolt 3 is fine but it's going to be a little while yet before it's mainstream enough.

So far I don't know of anything that is available "right now" so you are looking more (in my guess) mid 2016. I've been around long enough to remember USB v1 and how it was going to change the world overnight. It took years. Things may be faster on the uptake now but being at the bleeding edge is expensive and not without risk.

Then you are going to have the cost of the GFX housing (Alienware's is what? £300?) and then the cost of GFX card(s) on top (£700+) so already at £1k region very easily. Want to run three HD screens then you'll need at least 2 cards.

But this will only run like this when setup at home.

The only advantage I see is that you have one machine you take about that when at home runs like a decent games tower.
Personally, I see it as too compromised a solution. Yes the Aorus 13 v5 is a great little laptop and the Alienware is not far behind. But there are some serious compromises you have to make in order to get a sub 2kg laptop with everything crammed in. A desktop CPU/GPU is much cheaper for the equivalent bang per buck.
Granted, I do like the single cable docking station concept but to be honest, it's not a massive drag (One usb, couple monitors and power).

I think the graphics amp is a waste of money though - you have to shut down *everything* completely to hook it up (as it's effectively an extension of the main pci bus) then start windows. Ditto if you want to disconnect otherwise you have bluescreen. It's an interesting concept and will have some buyers but those kind of hassles would bug the crap out of me. And you just *know* that one time you forget you'll have something you don't want lose unsaved...

However I'm not arrogant to believe that one size fits all :)

Indeed, I have thought about all of the above, I cant afford to replace a laptop of this price every year, this is going to be for 3-5years so I need to get it right. :)
