Yes, that's your decision. To be honest, I wasn't expecting that everything will be working fine when I was buying this laptop. The specs and the size/weight of this laptop seem to be rather unreal, so it would be a real surprise if the laptop would be faultless. Razer Blade was full of issues as well, when it was released few year ago. That's the biggest problem with these extremely thin gaming laptops. It's like with cars, you can buy a Japanese car which is boring and reliable or an Italian car which is a dream to drive but super defective.

Hi narubi,

Thanks for feedback and understanding.

This situation with the V5 model is extrememly disapointing and frustrating for us.

It has happened because the compenent layout on the new motherboard for SKL is different to the previous 2 generations that we have successfully brought to market without any problems like this.

We have talked at length to R&D and our product team, each day, and understand what the problem was, and what the solution is.

We dont beleive that providing "solution" to end users that had already said they intended to open machine and install SSD and RAM, was unreasonable of us - but also understand that the situation wasnt perfect.

Another user who was faced with the same problem simply folowed our guidance, loosend 2 screws at the rear of the chassis, (this cures the problem) as a temporary solution, while he waits for us to send him the correct tape to apply to the unit. We also provided very clear picture and instruction on how to perform this modification.

All units leaving factory now have the correcct gage of tape applied, and in the unlikely event of any failures AORUS commits to exchanging for end user so they receive the perfect machine that they wanted.

We sincerly apologise for the inconveneience we have caused to some customers and have worked hard to rectify all problems to the satisfaction of each customer.

Hi guys, I got an aorus X3 plus V5 last week. I am setting it up slowly so that I can start taking it to work. I have upgraded to Win10 pro as I needed some of the features there and have done all the updates available. So far the machine has been very good (hope it remains this way). Build quality is great and the machine feels very solid. It is super fast and dead silent even under load. The keyboard doesn't have any noticeable flex and in my eyes the new mouse pad is better than the old glossy one. Overall I am very happy! So far the only two issues I have: For whatever reason when I use the machine on battery and I try to play a game (Assassin's Creed), even when I put the machine on performance mode and choose the Nvidia card from the control panel as soon as the game is about to start the computer switches off. I am not sure if I am doing something wrong here but this doesn't happen when it is plugged in (we can only use the aorus NVidia drivers right?). Then the other problem is with the system gauge from command centre. No matter what I try it doesn't start. I uninstalled and reinstalled, updated to the new version and still nothing (both when it is on battery and on charge). Got the latest bios version and all the other options from the command centre work fine - baffling! Would really appreciate it if you can give me some feedback on that. Also I am installing an extra 512GB ssd drive on the machine (the one from your recommendation). From Narubi's photo, as I haven't opened the machine yet, I am assuming that the port is mid right? Would I need to make any bios changes or simply slot it in and it is plug and play? I am not going to setup raid as the hard drive is very fast and will use it for storage mainly. Would you recommend a clean install with windows 10 home and then upgrade to pro version again?

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hey Atom80, your support on this forum has been tremendous! Any answers to my questions?

Hi Matsamplokos,

Sorry sir, we have sent your initial post for feedback from HQ team. To answer one element, yes you should use the AORUS drivers from our website, not direct from nVidia's site. Also, yes the SSD installation should be simple as plug and play.

We will have reply by Monday on the other more technical issues, hopefully we can solve these quickly for you.

Thanks for you understanding and overall positive feedback about the machine.

I have just opened the machine after trying loosening the screws (it didn't work) and I can clearly see the tape already applied as per your picture. So the issue is not only that one.... I have tried to delete all my data in the laptop but it seems that I'll have to send it back with all my data on it? Anyway I have wasted a a lot of time.

Well I think you have missed my post on the previous page, check this picture and try to loosen those 2 screws inside the laptop, not the screws on the outside of the case.

Thanks mate but I won't try anything else, the point here is that in jotnsupposed to loosen up anything and not even to put tape on the motherboard ... If you know what I mean. Atom agrees for a refund now I'm waiting for oc uk to provide me the rma and label to ship this defective machine back.

Thanks anyway

No worries mate ;)

You were not mean at all, it's up to you if you want to keep it or not. I personally like the laptop even after this bad first impression I got. Good luck.

I think this post sums up everything I have learnt about Aorus and their customer support. Excellent. Well done.

That said, the problems seemingly surrounding this product version, have me doubting now whether to proceed.

Has anyone here any advice. Am I best just going for the v4 or do I look at the likes of the Gigabyte P34W with Skylake instead?

AshamanAndr3w,

Thanks for the feedback. We would like to advise you to buy the model you really want. If this would be the V5 model, we would like to offer a pre-despatch check of the unit to ensure it is 100% perfect, and will give you the peace of mind, and us. If you want us to do this, please confirm and we will speak with OcUK for you.

If however you feel like saving a few quid and picking up a bit of a bargain, OcUK have a couple of discounted products, yes the V4 model is slightly cheaper than its' RRP of £1,749inc:

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/aoru...tx970m-6gb-gddr5-gaming-laptop-lt-022-au.html

But also we supplied them with a Haswell + GTX870m, last gen model, but with Win10 installed, RRP was £1,549

Hope that helps,

Thanks Atom

I don't think there is any doubt which laptop I want. I've done a lot of Internet research and the Aorus X3 regularly ranks highly in people's recommendations. Obviously the latest iteration of this in the v5 is desirable, just had a few reservations given the issues that have been raised.

Thank you for the offer of the pre dispatch check. I would gladly accept your offer but would stress I'm not in a position to buy until this Friday 18th when I'm paid so it would be unfair of me to expect anything until then.

Many Thanks
Andrew.

I have already had 3 units of Aorus x3 v5 and all I can say is that it is a special laptop. It is not perfect, but from what I have seen, all issues everyone here (including me) is having, are very easy to fix if you have a screwdriver. All components are working correctly, there are just some construction mistakes that have been done while assembling those new x3 v5 units. If you order it now, those may be probably fixed already. You need to think about what matters the most for you: Performance, or build quality?

Thanks for that...though can't I have both performance AND build quality? ;)

On the topic of build quality however, how is the flex on the keyboard on the v5?

Keyboard is not a problem. I have about 1mm flex when pushing hard at the middle of the keyboard. Typing is ok. It's very hard to describe the build quality of this laptop. The materials used (aluminium + plastic) are actually pretty durable and scratch-resistant, but the overall feeling of the construction of this laptop is, that it seems to be a bit rushed, if you know what I mean.

Hi Atom,

A small update. I installed the recommended ssd drive over the weekend and got another 512GB. Installation was very easy and went without an issue. I then proceeded to do a clean win10 pro installation. After installing all the drivers from the aorus site plus apps and doing all the updates with drivers update the system gauge worked again and everything so far seems to be going smoothly. I ll be connecting an external Bluetooth keyboard and mouse tomorrow. I then reinstalled assassin's creed syndicate and diablo 3 and unfortunately I have the same issue. On power supply all the games work perfectly well with great graphics and high frame rates (amazed at what the laptop can do with assassin's creed even at native resolution). As soon as I try to start the games on battery mode using high performance and making sure from the NVidia panel both games use the NVidia card (even though it should do it automatically) I get the problem. With Diablo 3, the game starts I move around a bit and then the computer turns off. With assassins creed as soon as I go to resume play it switches off again. I am really perplexed and troubled because other than that I have to say I am loving the laptop. Its speed is phenomenal, the screen is great, it is really quiet even under load, with moderate usage I am getting 6-7 hours of battery and there are plenty of tweaks I found that will probably reduce it more. But this problem is really nagging me. Have you heard anything from HQ? I am going away at the end of the week and if this is something that cannot be fixed and the machine needs to be replaced then I would like to do it as quickly as possible as I was planning on working over the break and my old laptop is dead. Your input would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks

Hi Matsamplokos,

OK for sure the problem needs solving - Have you tried "F9" factory restore at boot up? If not please try this and see if the same.

If it is the same, then of course we will exchange the unit for a brand new one rather than sending in to service centre.

Please let us know,

Regards,
