Aorus Owner's Lounge

I just got one of the post-recall units that OC received on Friday. One-day delivery UK-> US, which is pretty impressive even with the timezones in play.

As far as I can tell, everything works fine. Happy to answer questions if anyone has any.

Build quality is amazing and a large step up from the MSI GS40 I used for a bit prior to this. I don't know if they made any changes to the trackpad (I'd read middling reviews), but it is very good, even compared to my macbook pro. I'll report on battery life later. One thing to call out is the fan noise - even at full load, is it far quieter than other gaming laptops I've used.

My only complaint is the keyboard. It has no flex, but it's quite ratchety, especially certain keys around the edges.

Other than that, the hardware is what it is and performance looks to be inline with the usual internet benchmarks. Kudos as well to Gigabyte for a pretty minimalist Windows 10 installation.

Hi modalsaliency,

Thanks for the feedback and we are glad you are happy with the machine and appreciate the quality.

Especially nice to hear that it is a "large step" up from the compeitotr product you have also used.

We will feedbaack your views on the trackpad and keyboard also.

Regards,

Team AORUS

Atom80, I have to ask, will Gigabyte be including thunderbolt 3 on a revision in the near future? I believe this to be a major draw back.

Does anyone else have any problems or had problems with these?

Very good - on normal Windows work such as browsing, outlook office, development use etc I'm getting about 5 hours but that's estimated as I've not done any testing.
Game use with the gpu? I'd guess hour maybe hour and half

7 days until pay day...hoping and praying the X3 V5 is back in stock by then - really cutting it fine to make sure my Christmas present to myself arriives on time...

Hi AshamanAndr3w,

Small amount of stock arrived today :D

A few have gone on pre-orders....

We may be able to get some more here before Xmas,,, so fingers crossed for you !

Team AORUS

Today after testing the machine, I didn't have time to do it earlier since I was busy with work, after installing everything, it stop working. Sadly it is stuck at the bios, every time i switch it on, the machine open the bios page and get stuck there, I've spent all day trying to figure out what is the issue but I guess the issue is the laptop itself, something really wrong with these laptops.... I'm so disappointed and sad... At this point I have no more time to waste and therefore I prefer to have a refund, I don't want the laptop anymore, it's a nightmare and i wanna wake up.

Please let me know thanks a lot for understanding

How long did you had the machine for?

For everyone who has been having any restart/bootup issues with this laptop, if you have the adequate tools, try to open it and unscrew some screws around the thermal pipe (graphics+processor) by only 1mm.
My laptop had a short circuit which was causing the restarts!!! Figured it out myself!:cool::cool:
If anyone needs any help, contact me.

Other than that, this laptop is amazing, if you don't mind some minor build quality issues here and there...

I have the Alienware 14 2013 as well and if I compare the build quality, Alienware is better, but hey, it's 2x heavier and bulkier!

And if the fans are too loud while gaming, just set the processor to 99% in the power options, this is a well known trick...

I am happy that I decided for this one instead of the Razer Blade. 6Gb GPU and up to 32Gb RAM, 1TB ssd and memory card slot is a huge advantage.

Would I recommend this laptop to a person who has the time and money to deal with potential problems that this laptop can have: YES
Would I recommend this laptop to a student who has a limited capital, can't really afford this and it will be his/her only laptop? NO

Hi guys, I got an aorus X3 plus V5 last week. I am setting it up slowly so that I can start taking it to work. I have upgraded to Win10 pro as I needed some of the features there and have done all the updates available. So far the machine has been very good (hope it remains this way). Build quality is great and the machine feels very solid. It is super fast and dead silent even under load. The keyboard doesn't have any noticeable flex and in my eyes the new mouse pad is better than the old glossy one. Overall I am very happy! So far the only two issues I have: For whatever reason when I use the machine on battery and I try to play a game (Assassin's Creed), even when I put the machine on performance mode and choose the Nvidia card from the control panel as soon as the game is about to start the computer switches off. I am not sure if I am doing something wrong here but this doesn't happen when it is plugged in (we can only use the aorus NVidia drivers right?). Then the other problem is with the system gauge from command centre. No matter what I try it doesn't start. I uninstalled and reinstalled, updated to the new version and still nothing (both when it is on battery and on charge). Got the latest bios version and all the other options from the command centre work fine - baffling! Would really appreciate it if you can give me some feedback on that. Also I am installing an extra 512GB ssd drive on the machine (the one from your recommendation). From Narubi's photo, as I haven't opened the machine yet, I am assuming that the port is mid right? Would I need to make any bios changes or simply slot it in and it is plug and play? I am not going to setup raid as the hard drive is very fast and will use it for storage mainly. Would you recommend a clean install with windows 10 home and then upgrade to pro version again?

Looking forward to hearing from you!

To me, it seems you have an issue with the Nvidia graphic card. Try to reinstall the drivers and/or reset the system. If nothing helps, it means you have a hardware issue with the GPU, or as in my case, just a short curcuit.

Can you access the Nvidia Control panel and make changes in there?

Hi Narubi,

I can access it indeed and can make changes and everything seems to be working just fine. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver from the aorus page and the same thing happens. Very confusing. It seems to be working fine when on charge. I get a message from the assassin's creed screen before it loads that the drivers are older (which I am guessing is correct as the current ones from the NVidia website cannot be installed - when I try it says hardware not found but the aorus ones work just fine). Hope it is not a problem and have to return it just before the holidays. It would be such a letdown!

Hi guys, as I've explained to Atom80 this morning, I'm not going to put tape on the motherboard to release the tension on the cpu and not even touch any screws, I knew already that workaround? This is a brand new £2k laptop and it should be working correctly.... if you know what I mean. I'm not happy with these machines and I lost trust in the x3v5, said that the support provided by aorus is great and I wish the quality of the laptop could have matched the way they help. Now my second machine is about to go back, I don't want the laptop anymore, I wasted enough time and i got stressed enough.
I'm waiting now for oc uk to contact me to instruct me on rma and refund.

Thanks again and good luck everyone.

This is a major problem that has been raised about shorting, and what might happen later on, plus NVidia drivers means there needs to be continual support from Aorus.... How long will this device be supported? Is there anything in writing to state support period?

Atom80 you are the kind of support that all companies should have.

Yes, that's your decision. To be honest, I wasn't expecting that everything will be working fine when I was buying this laptop. The specs and the size/weight of this laptop seem to be rather unreal, so it would be a real surprise if the laptop would be faultless. Razer Blade was full of issues as well, when it was released few year ago. That's the biggest problem with these extremely thin gaming laptops. It's like with cars, you can buy a Japanese car which is boring and reliable or an Italian car which is a dream to drive but super defective.

Hi RoBoT,

Units will be supported with full 2 year warranty as usual for us.

With regards to supporting units with driver updates etc, they will be continually updated with our own dirvers well into the future - we will confirm if there is a finite end date, but we dont think so:-)

We always request that customers update from our site, using your update app, and not be tempted to download latest version of nVidia's own drivers, as these differ from the ones that are specifically for our machines.

Has that answered your question?

Regards,

Atom 80
