Aorus Owner's Lounge

Hi Atom,

A small update. I installed the recommended ssd drive over the weekend and got another 512GB. Installation was very easy and went without an issue. I then proceeded to do a clean win10 pro installation. After installing all the drivers from the aorus site plus apps and doing all the updates with drivers update the system gauge worked again and everything so far seems to be going smoothly. I ll be connecting an external Bluetooth keyboard and mouse tomorrow. I then reinstalled assassin's creed syndicate and diablo 3 and unfortunately I have the same issue. On power supply all the games work perfectly well with great graphics and high frame rates (amazed at what the laptop can do with assassin's creed even at native resolution). As soon as I try to start the games on battery mode using high performance and making sure from the NVidia panel both games use the NVidia card (even though it should do it automatically) I get the problem. With Diablo 3, the game starts I move around a bit and then the computer turns off. With assassins creed as soon as I go to resume play it switches off again. I am really perplexed and troubled because other than that I have to say I am loving the laptop. Its speed is phenomenal, the screen is great, it is really quiet even under load, with moderate usage I am getting 6-7 hours of battery and there are plenty of tweaks I found that will probably reduce it more. But this problem is really nagging me. Have you heard anything from HQ? I am going away at the end of the week and if this is something that cannot be fixed and the machine needs to be replaced then I would like to do it as quickly as possible as I was planning on working over the break and my old laptop is dead. Your input would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks

Maybe try installing steam OS if it has those games for steam? It may be a windows problem?

I did a fresh install but if you believe that a system restore would be better then i ll try that. It is such a pain going through the process again, very time consuming. I will try tonight and send you the results. I tried something else as well. I put the fans into gaming mode manually and was able to boot diablo 3 and play for 30 minutes before it switched off again. It is very strange I have to admit. As if it overheats and stops for some reason. But the same doesnt happen when on charge.

Hi Atom,]

I am trying to do a system restore by pressing F9 and when I reach the recovery tool something tries to start but the recovery never loads. I thought from my clean install of windows 10 pro I had accidentally deleted the partition but the disk management shows the partition is still there. By the way, I am not sure if that plays a part, but the original installed hard drive was fitted on the right hand side (facing the laptop open, my new one went to the spare left hand side). I am starting to get a bit frustrated here as I have very limited time to get the laptop to work properly (it should theoretically work straight out of the box). Is there somewhere I can download the recovery partition or a link I can make a USB off of it and do the recovery like that? I am looking forward to your prompt response. Regards

Out of interest, do you have any other peripherals connected (usb)?
Also worth running the Aorus console as this shows fan speed and cpu/gpu temps.

Hello Atom and everyone.

I'm looking forward to buy an Auros X3 Plus V5, however after reading this post, looks like V5 rig get several bugs which causing machine self-restart/ can't turn off. Before placing any order, may I check that:

1. Those bugs are all fixed in the new batch of stock? (Atom's confirmed those bugs are fixed in #438 ?)
2. How's that issue be fix in the new batch of CF1 and CF2 series (another retailer sold CF2 version which have 2x512 M.2 SSD installed, OCUK is in CF1 with 1x512 SSD, right?)
3. I'm concern about the trackpad surface material, there are some reports which said the material from V3 and V4 glossy surface looks nice however it easily stuck your finger and also slightly trackpad sensitive issue as well. Looks like V5 replaced the trackpad with a matte one with Auros logo, is it working better?
4. Is the powerbrick in V5 get scale down in size and come with a USB charge port on it?

Thank you Atom and everyone!

Hi davidkwan,

In answer to your points:

1) We identified the source of the problem and it is now rectified on all future shipments of this model.

2) The CF1 model sold to OcUK was the first to market unit, and was the specification we arranged at the time. Since then we have added another 512GB ssd to the spec, and yes the CF2 unit is this configuration (CF=configuration)

3) Other user should comment on this, but I know somewhere on thee thread a customer reported that they like the trackpad very much.

4) Yes the powerbrick is smaller and does have USB charge port on it.

Currently we have no stock of any of the AORUS X3 V5 in the UK, but they will be coming back soon. At the moment we cannot confirm exact date because even if we ship them now, re-seller and distributors dont like to accept goods this close to Xmas holiday season, so we estimate first week of Jan is most likely.

Hope that helps and thanks for your interest.

Team AORUS

Hang on? So now the same unit for the same price gets double the SSD space than those units bought less than a month ago?!?
I know specs change and move on but this is incredible after all the hassles and messing I went through to say if I'd not bothered (and I really really could have done without the stress) and buying a second unit whilst the first was stuck in customs hell at my risk to find 3 weeks after ordering the same unit from a different supplier has over 200 quids worth of additional hardware for free?!?!

* edit, sorry, not for free. in fact cheaper.

So ordering a laptop nov 2, trying to return a faulty initial unit for several weeks, giving up and ordering a second one 4 weeks later and barely had a working unit 2 weeks and its SSD drive is already doubled for cheaper price.

to say I really feel I have been squarely kicked in the nuts is a massive understatement.

Thank you Atom, your reply give me more confidence to order with V5 rather than a V4, great! However regarding the bug from the rig, how exactly will be the treatment to be done at coming shipments?
We would really like to see a rig that fully seal from factory without any alteration from reseller side or anything else, and really looking for a sturdy rig rather than hacking by some screw lossen...

Beside that, do you have a rough dimension of the power brick between V4 and V5?

Cheers,

Davidkwan

Hmm, probably we should have waited and not have returned the unit for RMA, but we should have asked for a refund when we had a chance. Now it's too late. So we have the laptop for 2 weeks longer with all the hassle and we have paid literally £300 more for it, it's a fair price
If I will have any other issue with this laptop I am returning it for a refund without a doubt, and will get the cheaper better one.

Damn right.
I've had a 'working' laptop for less than 2 weeks and to be honest the ownership experience isn't exactly great now it's already effectively surpassed. New owners I hope you appreciate the pain us early adopters went through for you to get the laptop that should have arrived in the first place.
To be honest working or not I don't think I want it anymore. Every time I turn it on I just feel a combination of sad and cross.
And checked last night - the refund for the unit originally ordered 2nov still hasn't hit the account. So from my point of view I'm over 3k down at the moment.

I just tried Shadows of mordor on max ultra detail and on battery to see if I had this problem (just to add to everything) and it worked fine. The benchmark held a steady 32 fps which isn't bad at all.

Would you really use the gfx card on battery? Even that short test smashed the battery by nearly 5% for no more than 30 seconds.
But granted - principle is that it should work if you choose to do it.
What happens when you start in AC power and then pull the plug when the game is running?

It just occurred to me on the way into work... If I hadn't had bought a second laptop whilst my first was stuck in customs hell then based on when it was released last week and stock updates above, the chances are I wouldn't have had one till after Christmas. Then I would have been able to cancel, refund and reorder and get an improved spec and not have thousands in limbo.

Well, these are the risks of having a brand new item before everyone else, it was also a bad combination: A pretty new brand (Aorus), 1st batch of units, new hardware layout (Skylake) and new system (Win 10) to be honest I was expecting some problems. I was actually expecting more issues with this unit! But it doesn't justify the fact that we paid so much money and received an unfinished product. We were basically a free testers for them. But today, it's like that with so many things. Electronics, games etc. The customers who pre-order or buy a first batch of units mostly will get an unfinished product these days, sad truth

And yes, you are right. This left a bad taste in my mouth too. Not to mention that I have received in total 3 faulty units and decided to fix the 3rd one myself. But now all is fine and I am enjoying the laptop. Think about the positive things: Now we are ones of few ppl who have the most powerful 1.8kg laptop and can enjoy it during the holidays :D

You will get that money back soon for sure. I was having a terrible luck buying a new laptop as well. 2 months ago I ordered Razer Blade on ebay and it didn't arrive, luckily I got refunded after 2 weeks. Then I decided to buy Aorus and got all these issues. So unlucky lol.

Hi again Davidkwan,

The fix was simple, and all that has been changed is the gage (thickness) of some "adhesive mylar tape". The original being identified as the cause of the problem within the first batch.

The units that will come from factory will not be opened or modified by re-sellers when they arrive, they will be shipped with the modeification already now part of the production process.

With regards to the power brick, please see below for details.

In order to provide a really slim and light power adapter for X3 v5 users, our engineers really spent a lot of effort to develop this brand new power adapter, it is about 80g lighter and 33% smaller. And it even provides an extra 10W for USB charging port

Hope that answers your points and we endeavour to get more stock here as quickly as possible.

Regards,

Hi both,

We appreciate the situation has been far from perfect, but need to clarify a couple of points.

We certainly do not launch products to early adoptors expecting there to be problems, and we beleive we have put a lot of effort into rectfying the problems experiecned with the initial delivery, for every customer. We "intend" to bring the finished article to market, and this is the first time we have exeperienced a problem like this - something we do not wish to repeat!

Ads_green - we have replied to your email this morning, but because there is some things being discussed here, we feel the need to clrify the situation regarding the spec and pricing seen in the market:

"The situation is this, AORUS cannot tell re-sellers what price to sell at, we simply advise them of our "MSRP" (manufacturers suggested retail price).

What I can tell you is there "should" be a price gap between the 2 specifications, but because of the dollar rate being bad and fluctuating, and stock arriving for different customers at different times, this has got a bit confused.

Also, the single SSD in your machine, is a higher/faster spec than the 2 x SSDs we use in the CF2 spec - reason being the performance of the high spec SSD isn't realised as much when they are put in RAID configuration, so we choose a slightly better value option for the RAID unit.

OK, in addition to that, the CF2 sku has not been delivered into the UK market yet, only one partner has this ranged. It was never planned to have both units in the market at the same time, but if they were, there should have been a logical price gap. This product is not due until mid-end of Jan and really should not be "live" yet - We are speaking with the one partner who we know has this ranged, and we realise that they have "wrongly" assumed it is the same product as ranged with OcUK and matched the price. They have now taken action since this has been pointed out."

We trust this goes some way to explaining our position and easing the stress caused.

Regards,

Team AORUS

Thank you for your clarify Atom. That make sense and see THAT reseller changed their price tag. Do you know if AmazonUK will introduce the V5 or not?

Regarding the storage, do you have some more info about the SSD setup and spec between the CF1 and CF2 rig? From what you said, it sounds like the SSD are not the same Samsung PM951 in both rig...

You know, the V4 and V5 rig are really lack in info/review on the internet, many reseller just provide basic CPU/GPU/RAM on them....

Thank you!
