Aorus Owner's Lounge

Hi a66as,

Sorry for delay.

You could send back to OcUK, exchange for the other model if you wanted to.

Or, you can return to our service partner to just exchange the panel.

The panel that would be installed would be: • FHD IPS G-SYNC 1920x1080

We cover the collection and return courier costs to our repair centre.

With regards to the route cause, we are not sure on the feedback you provided.

Hope that helps,

Regards,

Team AORUS

Ok thanks for your reply, if I added additional hard drives will this void the warranty?

Hi a66as,

As long as you are confident in opening the unit (with correct tools) we are happy for you to install additional ram, ssd, hdd......

The only thing that will void warranty is "customer induced damage", so just be gentle :-)

Hope that clarifies,

Team AORUS

Hi Atom, could you quickly go through the differences between the Aero 14 and the aorus x3? I'm curious (I got the aero recently) as they seem very similar and are from the same company...

thanks

Hi cv07,,,,

OK,. yes same company but separate brand within the company.

AORUS - Our flagship brand, focussed on power, performance and style.

Gigabyte AERO 14 - this model is/was targeted a customer we believe exists - i.e power user, maybe a professional, also enjoys gaming, but needs mobility and battery life.

Both machines have Aluminium chassis construction, high end screens and overall premium quality materials throughout. Our AORUS models tend to use 6820HK cpus, whereas our Gigabyte products are more regularly fitted with 6700HQ.

Although with both brands we have focussed on powerful components and tried to deliver a slim profile chassis, AERO14 is our strongest product yet, exceeding expectations on how powerful such a small form factor can be - and with "all day" computing with the new battery we used.

We believe the choice between an AEOR 14 and AORUS X3 is a close call and probably simply comes down to personal taste with regards to the chassis styling.

Hope that gives some sort of explanation,,,,,

Also we trust you are enjoying the AERO14?

Regards,

Gigabyte UK NB Team.

Stay posted if you're after the best 14" money can buy (IMO),,,,, will be announcements during CES in Las Vegas - 5th - 7th Jan.

Atom80: I understand you'll be subject to NDAs re the above, but are you able to say whether it is a new product or a refresh of an existing product?

Hi Atom80, is this compatible with the free M2 PCIe slot in X7 DT v6-CF1?

Hi Tobeornottobe,

Officially the answer would be "NO", but this is simply because it hasn't been tested and verified by our R&D - However we use the same brand and I personally recognise the model number (from our 256GB and 512GB ssd used in AORUS models).

We don't therefore foresee any reason why it wouldn't be compatible, we just cant verify 100% with certainty, because of the above.

Hope that's OK.

Team AORUS

Okay, great. Any news on ETA of X7 DT v6-CF1?

Thanks

I am going to give 'Samsung SM961 Polaris 1TB M.2-2880 PCI-e 3.0 x 4 NVMe Solid State Drive' a go. I found that a US Aorus reseller (Xotic PC) are offering a similar upgrade so it should work. I'll let you know if it works okay.

Lovely machine. Whats are your temps and fan noise like MiSJAH?

Oh and does your 120hz display have the same lines like the 17" machines?

Temps for 15K firestrike:

That was with the fans set to 'gaming' via the command and control app, so a reasonable amount of noise but not offensive.

No lines whatsoever on the 15" panels from what I have seen, I think that only affected some of the 2K panels.

Thats great. Kinda settles it for me on what laptop to buy right now, only trouble is I'm expecting kaby lake and refreshed model type announcements at the CES show this week. Thunderbolt would be a nice addition too. Would like to wait to see what comes from the show seeing as its so close now.

Does your X5 support onboard graphics switching or is that disabled with the 120hz screen like the X7 too?

@Atom80, Happy New Year, hope you had a good break (assuming you had one!) What are the chances of offering people the chance to configure ssd sizes etc? I understand for Aorus that you have to fit 256gb drives to keep costs down to shift units but with bulk purchasing I'd be surprised if you weren't able to secure higher capacity ssd drives at competitive rates. I don't see that a 256gb SSD on a gaming laptop is sufficient right now. I installed the Witcher 3 from the steam sale last week and it was 32gb alone! Yes of course the consumer can buy a separate ssd and install it themselves but tbh that works out to be more expensive and more hassle than it needs to be. Perhaps you may be able to come to some arrangement with OcUK to allow them to perform the swap/new OS+software install on your behalf!

No onboard switching, but battery life is pretty bloody good.

I looked at the manufacturer costs vs aftermarket costs for adding SSD's and think I'm going to add 2 x Samsung 960 EVO 500 GB drives myself.
