Aorus Owner's Lounge

Taken from Techradar, Computex News:

"X5 MD

The Aorus X5 MD bumps up the overclocked processor to Intel's latest seventh generation i7, and replaces the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 with a 1080 for boosted performance. The IPS display is also increased from 3K to 4K

The M5 XD features Intel’s latest Thunderbolt 3 interface which allows for up to 40Gbps transfers and also boasts the same X-Rite Pantone certified display that we have seen in the more creative-focused Aero series from Gigabyte.

Although we don't have any word on when the X5 MD will be available, we can apparently expect it to release in the US and UK, and possibly Australia. Keep an eye out for our hands-on review"

Sounds awesome and just the machine I was hoping for.... except 5 months down the road and we have yet to see the ver 7 laptops available in the UK since their first announcement.

Congratulations to Aorus for pushing the specs forward with the M5 XD, but please tell me you have plans to actually produce it for purchase within a viable timeframe. Recent form doesn't give many reasons to have any confidence in that regard? Anything on this Atom80 please? Also what would the refresh rate be on that 4k IPS display?

I'll take this one - it won't be 5 months, but it will be available in very limited quantities instead.

The screen is a 60Hz one - external monitors recommended for higher refresh rates.

Other than that - it is basically an X5 v7 with the 4K screen. It comes with the same connectivity as the X5 MD, but with a GTX 1070 instead, and the choice between a 3K and a 4K screen. I overclocked one myself to 5GHz just the other week: http://hwbot.org/submission/3545561_

Cheers Mean Machine, although as JimboJet mentioned, the complete lack of ability to actually know when your own product is going to be available means I'll not wait for this one, I've been waiting for over 5 months for the normal one, however I would like to know; is this X5 MD the exact same machine as the x5 cf1 but with a 1080 or are there other differences? Will the CF1 have the same screen with the x-rite pantone certification?

not sure I can post a Youtube video, I've been in trouble before for mentioning other companies but I'm going to assume this is ok because it just someone asking questions about the new X9 and X5 MD with the Aorus guy mentioning that the X5 MD will likely cost around £3000 and be released sometime this summer (what he really means is Christmas!).

Remove if i'm wrong!

The X5 MD is AORUS' way to offer a machine with the NVIDIA Max-Q Design. It'll only be available with a 4K screen, unlike the regular X5 v7 that comes with 3K as well as 4K options. Pantone certification and fully calibrated out of the box, regardless of 3K/4K and MD or not. The MD also runs cooler than the v7 with the GTX 1070, and genuinely stays quiet, even under full 4K loads in 3DMark.

Regarding availability - I'll stay out of this one (and all future questions), as I am in no way connected to sales, and regional availability and ETAs are simply nothing I deal with. Once everything is sorted internally within AORUS, @Atom80 should be able to tell you more. Official NVIDIA launch date of the Max-Q Design systems is end of June, so none of them will be seen before that, this I can guarantee, but nothing else.

What did you repaste with? What additional cooling was used? Please show the XTU setup for that 5Ghz.
XTU at 5GHz isn't possible, unless you slap on something like a proper desktop cooler on it. I didn't even open the machine, although it is an early sample that was most likely assembled by hand in the office with some generic Shin-Etsu paste. Here it is anyway: http://hwbot.org/submission/3545561_
(EDIT: Oh, I already posted that link earlier. I haven't had my morning coffee.)

What did you use to overclock the cpu if not XTU?

Hey all, Just wanted to introduce to you something cool that although "mentioned" during CES, is now a far closer reality since Computex..

The totally awesome new AORUS X9....

eteHODR.jpg

The unit is housed in a full aluminium chassis (as with all our products), is deeper than the current X7 model as it has a mechanical RGB keyboard, plus some other styling and design tweaks to make this the new Daddy of our range.

Styling is slightly more "aggressive" than previous models, screen hinge has change, track-pad re-designed with subtle gold/orange logo, new speaker grills at front of chassis for improved audio clarity, LED's on front corner of chassis, and we will have LED's below the monitor (you can see below the AORUS name on screen bezel); you will be able to link through software suite to give you metre reading of CPU/GPUU performance, or temperature etc etc,,,, quite funky and functional, not just pretty lights for the sake of pretty lights. (as with all models of AORUS, you are able to fully customise all lighting effects, including switching off completely!)

  • CPU will be Core i7 7820HK

  • HDD plus three M.2 bays for SSD, streaming card etc

  • And finally we are going back to our roots, because we want to bring something special to the market, and will have 2 nVidia GTX1070 (8GB) in SLI on board :-)

For sure this will be a beast of a performance unit when it arrives......OF COURSE we don't know exact date, but certainly "soon", and we haven't had pricing confirmed yet,,,, but we wanted to share more details than were available previously....

Do Aorus intend to release a X7 MD and do you have any details on specification, cost and likely availability?

Hi ADE70 - as a company yes we will have this machine in production, but haven't yet decided if we will bring into UK market.

If some users can post their thoughts, this will help form our decision,,,,,,

Bearing in mind the AORUS strategy has always been focussed on performance machines in slim profile chassis: RAW POWER : PERFECTLY FORMED, and all that,,,,,, the new gpu from NVidia isn't necessarily offering us that much, simply because we have already achieved full fat GPU's in slim chassis. Yes there may be an argument that says we could achieve a cooler and quieter result with the new gpu, but actually if the price doesn't make sense, we don't prioritise scaling down the overall performance of the machine to achieve this.

As always its an ever evolving landscape, but as of now we don't "think" that UK will launch an MD model.

We will however have the new X7 DT (with single GTX1080) and X7 V7 (with GTX1070) going on line very soon (planned next week)

Hope that clarifies,

Regards,

Atom80
