Aorus Owner's Lounge

Taken from Techradar, Computex News:

"X5 MD

The Aorus X5 MD bumps up the overclocked processor to Intel's latest seventh generation i7, and replaces the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 with a 1080 for boosted performance. The IPS display is also increased from 3K to 4K

The M5 XD features Intel’s latest Thunderbolt 3 interface which allows for up to 40Gbps transfers and also boasts the same X-Rite Pantone certified display that we have seen in the more creative-focused Aero series from Gigabyte.

Although we don't have any word on when the X5 MD will be available, we can apparently expect it to release in the US and UK, and possibly Australia. Keep an eye out for our hands-on review"

Sounds awesome and just the machine I was hoping for.... except 5 months down the road and we have yet to see the ver 7 laptops available in the UK since their first announcement.

Congratulations to Aorus for pushing the specs forward with the M5 XD, but please tell me you have plans to actually produce it for purchase within a viable timeframe. Recent form doesn't give many reasons to have any confidence in that regard? Anything on this Atom80 please? Also what would the refresh rate be on that 4k IPS display?

Hey JimboJet,

As mentioned above, decision hasn't been 100% finalised, but we believe there is demand, so are pushing for stock to come to UK. The schedule will be MUCH sooner than the current situation has been. The products are under NVidia embargo, and therefore wont be "on the shelf" so to speak, until 28th June.

Hope that helps,

Team AORUS

Hey Atom80, any news on when we're going to get the standard v7 or is it going to be another week and then another week and another week or do you have an actual date because if it doesn't get shipped soon I'll be asking for a refund for the purchase i made when it first went up for pre order, which was so long ago i can't remember the date, and will buy a Asus.

Hi darkbbright - just checked the info we had at the beginning of this week, and looks like X5 V7 products will be ready in Week 24,,,,,, this week is Wekk23......

I know its been a long time coming and we truly understand your frustration, but also hope that this news makes it close enough for you to hang on a bit longer....

Thanks for the update I'll hold on one more week.

cheers.

GPU overclocked by +145 on core, and +100 on memory
CPU overclocked to 4.1Ghz at default volts

This runs so sweetly, re-playing Farcry 4 at 120fps in ultra.

Happy, happy.

That looks great,

I've finally caved and am packing in my desktop going to get a high end laptop as im just not using the power at my disposal and would prefer to be able to move around easily.

Currently selling my system on the members market and once it's all gone il be picking up one of these

What is the difference between this and the V7 version that from what i see is due in around a week?

Edit : figured it out, though the small cpu gains would be nice I am more drawn in by thr 1080p 120hz screen of the V6 over the higher res lower refresh that I see here on ocuk :)

Your busy... Not to worry I purchased a different brand regards.

Hi darkbright and all :)

OK, so finally we have set up the NEW AORUS X7 range, incorporating 2 different models -

X7 V7: with NVidia GTX1070
X7 DT: with NVidia GTX1080

Both chassis are the same slim profile design you have come to know and love from AORUS.

Revisions for V7 and DT:
  • New 7th Gen overclockble CPUs
  • Cooling system has been improved, along with air intakes on top of chassis
  • Improved I/O, no including THUNDERBOLT 3
  • New full "island" style keyboard - RGB Fusion

We expect delivery into OCUK in the next 2-3 weeks.

Once again we apologise for the delay in bringing this information to OcUK and the forum community.

I can barely believe my eyes :P Nice to finally see them. Any news on X5MD availability? I think the X7 is too large for my needs having seen an X7 v6 in the flesh, so a gtx1080 in a 15.6" machine would probably fit the bill.

It's a trap!

Ordered the x5 v6 this morning :) hope it turns up tomorrow :D

Hi Chaps,

No trap, but as always we are only as good as the latest update from our HQ, however we are confident beginning of July will be good.

The X5 MD has been ordered by OcUK, but as stated previously embargo is in place until 28th June, so its certain they wont be available, or available for pre-order until this date.

Look forward to hearing your feedback on the X5 @harry5522

Are the GPU's max-q?

Uhhhh....

OK, to be clear the main revision is with the air intake vents on the keyboard face of the chassis - but the chassis design is the same. Just checked with HQ, and no changes were needed with the actual heat pipes and fan cooing - so apologies for previous error.

The air intakes were actually added on the V6 model - so this isn't a "new" design, sorry again for confusion (getting our X5's and X7's mixed up!)

hope that's clear...er

Are the GPU's max-q?

Hi Damien - these V7 models are all "full fat" GPUs, not max-q design. When Max-q models arrived they will probably (correct based on what we know now, but subject to change of course) be denoted by the following naming rule "X5 MD-CF1" = so instead of "V7" (version 7) or "DT" (desktop - hangover from the last gen GPU where GTX980 was one board, as apposed to GTX980M) - the "MD" will stand for "Max-q Design"

These models will be announced and launched so that it is very clear, when the time comes.

Hope that clarifies for you.

Hi darkbright,

Spoken with HQ this morning, and yes there is product shipping on Friday, arrive OcUK on Monday. Courier journey permitting of course.

Cool Stuff, thanks, my Gigabyte is just about holding on but i feel it needs to go in to retirement (asap) and live out its days as a backup, in the knowledge that it has performed like a champion!

Look forward to hearing your feedback on the X5 @harry5522

Well, after just a short time spent with this beauty i can honestly recommend to anyone who is on the edge of buying one/considering buying another brand due to the unfortunate stock / getting laptops situation currently going on that they should be patient and get one of these when they become available.

Couple of pointers.

I thought two of the keyboard leds were DOA however for some reason they were just disabled within the LED software. Keyboard is very good for a laptop, but going to take a bit of getting used to the layout/not being mech.

@Atom80 Quick question regarding warranty. Am i correct in thinking im welcome to open the system up to add a new drive? as i have a spare Samsung nvme drive that i would like to put in for a few dedicated games i always have installed. Also is having multiple nvme drives possibly going to saturate the pci lanes on the 6820hk?

Thanks

Harry

EDIT : lollinig at myself a little, *buys laptop* next day *Ocuk puts laptop on sale* FML :D

@Atom80

Quick couple of questions on the X7 dt.
Firstly is the battery of better build quality than those used in the X7 V2? I pre-ordered the V2 in the uk which worked fine for the first couple of years then the battery started to swell to the state it is currently in where it holds 10seconds of charge and has forced the chassis open, and stopped the speakers working (hence the reason i am looking to upgrade)
second question is, are there any additional SSD slots? and if so do you offer discounts to existing Aorus customers in buying additional disc's along with the dt?

Thanks
