Aorus Owner's Lounge

I had 2 x Samsung 960 EVO's in RAID0 in my X5V6 and saw no read benefit, but write speeds improved considerably. (Not sure if that's the info you are looking for?).

Not really as they won't be in raid but will both be read from or written two at the same time. This can stress out/saturate the bandwidth from the CPUs pci lanes. This can cause anything running over pci to bottleneck and slow down, including gpus. Il just try it out anyway.

Have to order a new bits kit for my driver as I appear to have misplaced mine :(.

Well, after just a short time spent with this beauty i can honestly recommend to anyone who is on the edge of buying one/considering buying another brand due to the unfortunate stock / getting laptops situation currently going on that they should be patient and get one of these when they become available.

Couple of pointers.

I thought two of the keyboard leds were DOA however for some reason they were just disabled within the LED software. Keyboard is very good for a laptop, but going to take a bit of getting used to the layout/not being mech.

@Atom80 Quick question regarding warranty. Am i correct in thinking im welcome to open the system up to add a new drive? as i have a spare Samsung nvme drive that i would like to put in for a few dedicated games i always have installed. Also is having multiple nvme drives possibly going to saturate the pci lanes on the 6820hk?

Thanks

Harry

EDIT : lollinig at myself a little, *buys laptop* next day *Ocuk puts laptop on sale* FML :D

Hi harry5522,

Glad the out of box experience was positive and you are enjoying the new addition to your family :-)

Regarding warranty, you are correct in thinking you are "OK" to open up and install additional SSD (or ram) - Customer Induced Damage isn't covered by warranty, but if you have "skills" and confidence to perform the tasks, which we are sure you do, then Warranty isn't voided by opening the machine and performing these upgrades.

Installing an additional SSD shouldn't impact the overall performance, we sometimes spec units with more than one SSD on board, so fill your boots sir.

Hope that's OK, any further Q's let us know.

@Atom80

Quick couple of questions on the X7 dt.
Firstly is the battery of better build quality than those used in the X7 V2? I pre-ordered the V2 in the uk which worked fine for the first couple of years then the battery started to swell to the state it is currently in where it holds 10seconds of charge and has forced the chassis open, and stopped the speakers working (hence the reason i am looking to upgrade)
second question is, are there any additional SSD slots? and if so do you offer discounts to existing Aorus customers in buying additional disc's along with the dt?

Thanks

Hi @Rob_215,

In answer to your question, yes the battery has been upgraded, possibly a couple of times since the early V2 model. The X7 DT model with GTX1080 also now ships with a 250W AC adaptor, whereas the X7 V7 with GTX1070 GPU has the 230W version.

Both X7 V7 and X7 DT are shipping with 1TB HDD installed, and one SSD installed, but yes there is an additional M.2 PCIe bay spare.

Regarding discounts, we are always happy to add value for existing and repeat customers to reward loyalty to our brand - so when stock arrives and you are considering a purchase, please let us know and we can arrange something for you to sweeten the deal.

Hope that's OK, anything else you wish to know, please let us know.

Thanks for the prompt answers atom :) always nice having a more direct line to company staff on here :)

I do have a question actually regarding the above backpacks. I was looking them the other day and as B3/5/7 all seeming to be bespoke designs to each laptop. I can't find the b5 on ocuk though, are these still available? Or is the 7 now recommended for both the x5&7?

Hi harry5522,

We have only ever had two versions, the B3 for the AORUS X3 model and the B7 designed for AORUS X7. The B7R new version just arrived, is designed for both X5 and X7 units, I use one and have a 15.6" Gigabyte P35 unit, and its certainly not inappropriate for the 15.6" form factor. So for X5, yes the B7R is the rucksack of choice.

Hope that clarifies for you.

Alright thanks Atom80,

one last question ( hope :D)) As someone who has overclocked many systems i was intrigued to see that the command and control software has gpu overclocking profiles as standard. Is this in anyway going to conflict if i use my go to of afterburner?

Also having seen above
Just in case there is any doubt in how good the X5V6 is;

CPU overclocked to 4.1Ghz at default volts
Happy, happy.

Having seen this i was really pleased to see overclocking was good on these systems however, i don't actually have any overclocking options within the bios? was this added in a later revision of bios? as the bundled software has profiles going as far as 4.0 but would love to get a extra drip of performance from the system.

Thanks again in advance.

Hi Damien - these V7 models are all "full fat" GPUs, not max-q design. When Max-q models arrived they will probably (correct based on what we know now, but subject to change of course) be denoted by the following naming rule "X5 MD-CF1" = so instead of "V7" (version 7) or "DT" (desktop - hangover from the last gen GPU where GTX980 was one board, as apposed to GTX980M) - the "MD" will stand for "Max-q Design"

These models will be announced and launched so that it is very clear, when the time comes.

Hope that clarifies for you.

Great.

Be interested to see a review, specifically testing temps in the 1080 equipped machine.

Currently got a 1070 powered MSI and looking to make the jump.

Overclocking beyond the app included with AORUS notebooks has to be done with other tools (XTU/ThrottleStop and Nvidia Inspector). However my X5 will do 4.2Ghz with a little boost in watts. And the 1070 clocks quite well too. Currently smashing firestrike at 15,783. Max temps GPU ~55°C and CPU ~85°C.

Hey mate understood thanks, what tools did you use for the CPU yourself? and im assuming afterburner is fine for for the GPU :D

Why ditch AB? Any reason or just preference haha? i've been using it for a long time so i do like to use it i have to admit.

Incremental and granular control in NvidiaInspector vs the sliders in afterburner.

Alright have used XTU and popped in 4ghz via multi for each amount of running cores. Will leave at that for now whilst i figure out ThrottleStop. New to laptop overclocking :D Considerably different to what i am used to.

Bench it at your 4Ghz (across all cores?) and check temps.

Yeah, going to knock back my cpu overclock as much as i would like the extra performance im sadly sitting at 95c using firestrike. Might have to try with those little legs on the base to see if that helps any.

Might get around to a repaste with some gelid gc extreme :) but for now il leave it as is.
