Aorus Owner's Lounge

So, it arrived today!

Build quality looks great, the metal bodywork makes feel sturdy and worth the £2k paid. However, upon turning it on, the system is set to Korean (I think) so I can't read any of the menus! I've spoken to OCUK support who have talked me through resetting the PC (currently 2%) and will report back once that is done.

Has anyone else had to do this? The seal on my box was not broken and it came with a UK plug, so don't think it could have been mixed up with a far eastern model..?

Hi dnaielanthony - has you problem been rectified now?

Hi there, I am interested in buying the latest aorus x3 plus model. Most carriers at the moment show the x3 plus v3 model as discontinued. Any idea if and when the new model will be available?

Kind Regards

Hi Matsamplokos,

Yes there will be a new model with 5th Generation CPU, due later this month.

As soon as stock is in the country, OcUk will have it ranged.

Thanks,

Hi,

Yes, the Windows reset process loaded up the English version of windows 8.1 thankfully!

QQ: The bottom of the laptop is secured with torx screws, any idea what size these are as I've used every torx screwdriver I own and none seem to fit. I'd like to add more memory for my VM's!

Thanks,

Dan

Hi dan,

Great news that the language issue sorted.

Finding out for you about the torx screw size.

Hi Dan

The torx screw size is T6.

Hope that helps,

If anyone is interested in the internal M.2 RAID0 array performance on the X7:

I've also stuck in a Crucial SSD into the 2.5" bay now that I have the correct screwdriver :)

So far I would say that this is the best laptop I've owned since getting my first green screen brick (which booted off a floppy due to no HDD). The things I like best about this laptop are:

1. Games run amazingly smooth on this, I play Battlefield Hardline with everything on ultra no problems.
2. I can get the screen to run at 100hz, its also got great viewing angles.
3. I still like the screen even though I have an iMac 5K to compare it to :)
4. Its thin enough to actually be portable. I've had Alienware and Clevo laptops with 10% of the power and 300% of the weight of this laptop.
5. There are THREE M.2 slots. Two are populated with cards in RAID0, which is awesome.
6. The overall build quality is very good, it also looks professional without being OTT like the RoG laptops.

The things I would change are:

1. The inbuilt speakers aren't great, I'm using my ZxR headphones so this isn't a major concern for me but they can't go very high before breaking up.
2. The keyboard does have a tiny amount of flex, but I'm used to using mechanical keyboards and have fingers like hammers.

Thanks for the reviews on this - I'm still debating on whether to go for it or not. How are you finding the sound of the fans etc?

Because the laptop is so thin (for what they've managed to pack inside), the fans do have a lot to do once you start gaming. If you weren't wearing headphones the fans would be annoying but so would the sound from the inbuilt speakers as they aren't great. But I use headphones when gaming so neither of these things bother me.

When in Windows desktop, the fans do NOT run, its just when it starts to do some work that the noise level cranks up.

Ultimately, the fans don't bother me, but you may be different.

Hi Atom80,

Will the Aorus X7 Pro-Sync be receiving the 5th Gen intel CPU any time soon?

I'm looking to buy a gamin laptop pretty soon, but would rather hold off and wait for the update if there is one coming.

Thanks.

Hi UTTER_FILTH :-)

OcUK are carrying 2 versions of the X7 Pro Sync with 5th Gen CPU:

First one is the unit that has been widely available in UK @ £2,099inc (OcUK have reduced price at the moment @ £1,999)

This second unit is a beefed up version with more ram and ssd, and exclusive to OcUK and again currently reduced down from £2,599 to £2,399

Ignore that last question, I've just contacted OCuk and asked them. It is Broadwell. The description stated the CPU was 4th Gen which confused me.

Order going in today!! :-D

If I wanted to add a third SSD to the raid set up, is that pretty straight forward? And what SSD would I need to buy?

Hi UTTER_FILTH...

Ahh yes, I see where you mean in the product description. This has been communicated to OcUK to change, thanks for the keen eye!

With regards to addition of another SSD, yes this is relatively simple and just requires a T6 Torx screw driver to access the base of the machine.

When you ask what SSD, do you mean what brand is already in there, or what form factor do you need?

The form factor is mSATA, and we have requested the brand used from HQ, and will post once we receive the information.

Let us know which unit you purchase as the brand may differ between the two machines.

Thanks,

Atom80,

Thanks for being so helpful, really appreciate it.

I think instead of adding a third mSATA drive to the raid, I'll just buy a 2TB hard drive and swap out the 1TB one instead as it will be less stress lol.

Is the 2nd hard drive blank, or does it contain windows and setup files etc?

I'll be buying the version with 16gb RAM and 2 x 256gb mSATA drives.
