Apollo / Reddit app, API shenanigans.

I search on reddit a lot, looking for valuable insight which is plentiful there. Recently all I'm finding is private subreddits. All power to them. I move on and search elsewhere.
Yeah, it was becoming my default to search for something and add 'reddit' to the end as you'd always find at least one other thread from someone who had a similar issue. It could vary from an issue with a piece of hardware, something for work or even something like 'PS5 disconnects from network with error code 1234'.

On the plus side, with Reddit being largely inaccessible for the last day and a half I've got a lot more work done...

So talking out of your arse then?

Still unsure why you think I'd be a fan of those things though... I'll wait.

Edit: no answer of course lol. Standard
I've already answered your question indirectly:

They allow fairly extreme ideas/comments therefore I'm surprised that herpderps on here would think Reddit is bad.

I associate your username with the freespeecher lot, perhaps I'm mistaken, who knows?

The UK sub is awful in every single way, the most depressing bunch with no actual thoughts of their own
Not much different to the OCUK boards, in terms of doom and gloom about the UK, economy, living standards etc.. They forget that people in Germany and other countries are having these exact same discussions over the cost of living, being able to survive, heat their homes etc..

I keep finding myself hitting cmd-for a new tab and then starting to type redd before remembering that there's nothing there at the moment!

The only two reasonably large subs I subscribe to are CasualUK and AskUK, everything else is for niche interests and hobbies.

I browse /r/all occasionally, just to have a browse through whatever shows up, but like above I'm mostly just in a few hobby/interest/career subreddits alone.

There are a few general UK subreddits, of various leanings and outlooks that I've had a browse through occasionally too. There are lunatics and crazies in all of them though, but that's just the internet for you, really.

Yep, I keep going on there and finding nearly all of my followed subreddits empty. Old habits and all that

If it's an old thread you're trying to read, most of the time there's still the Google Cache version that's still visible.

There's so many discussions and opinions through sheer volume of users, that anything I'm researching, I default to "reddit what is the best XYZ" first nowadays. It's almost like the Stack Overflow of researching

That's probably what our AI overlords are doing also :p LLM = LMGTFY "Reddit..."

A couple decades ago a lot of new companies got funded on the business plan that said “we have literally no strategy at all for how to make money but we'll get a gazillion users then charge them later” They're (and unfortunately we're) collectively now in the Find Out phase of that.

Imagine trying to run these forums without the shop there as the money maker. It’s not a viable business.

Indept leadership from spez, on top of the original shenanigans his internal memo has been a huge rallying cry for subs to go dark indefinitely. Have to see how this plays out....
Except it's a new day and my Reddit feed is basically back to normal.

How many subs have actually said they'll go dark indefinitely?

My feed still looks parse of content, it's just UKPersonalFinance & slow cooking for me - a real high and low situation (look at my slow cooked chicken thighs / help I'm in 40k of debt).

I sort of hope most stay dark indefinitely but I can't see it.

CEO basically expects the entire thing to pass and then continue with normal operations afterwards. No hit to revenue either. Which is fair, 48 hours won't really do much. But it's a shame he doesn't seem interested in properly listening and interacting to the community and feels the path he picked is the correct one for the long term.
