I got as far as about 20 post and it had already had either some trolls or idiots claiming it was fake. That was enough for me to write my post.
You did call the moon a planet in the OP, and you have yet to correct yourself
Well it kind of was, before smashing into the earth and that's whats left of it.
I know what you mean but I'd just love it if once, once, they'd come up with something truly new. Something that didn't confuse parallax with fakery, or exposure times with Photoshop, or clear exhaust with....well, to be honest, there's no real way to get through to these ****s about hypergolic fuels so that's a bust....
But seriously, Hoax-believing ******s - the conspiracy theory, such as it ever was, has been debunked time and time again. You can see the descent stages and footprints and rover tracks from the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter photos. You can see the laser reflector experiment done at observatories. You've got the photos, the TV broadcasts, the radio excerpts and full transcripts. I defy anyone to say that NASA made up the Apollo 13 near-tragedy. And I'll certainly have harsh words for those of you who subscribe to that **** Kaysing's nonsense about the Apollo 1 fire being a deliberate attempt to stop The Truth™ from getting out.
My advice to anyone who still, despite the wealth of evidence, believes that the Apollo missions were faked is as follows:
1) Grow a brain
2) ??????
3) Profit!!!!

Well not really.
Even if the Conspiracy Theorists put down all the evidence there is still one thing they can't answer which is "Why did Russia their arch enemy go along with it all these years?".
To be fair, that's actually only a minor knock against the hoax theory in the grand scheme of things. The best riposte?

You could have put the most fantastic, highest-definition, hugely capable TV camera up there, and it would still have had to talk back to Earth. Earth being quite a distance from the Moon. And with only a tiny little spaceship to beam the signal back. Using frequencies that it kind of needed for important stuff like telemetry.
I think people forget now just how wild it was to make a TV camera small and light enough to work for Apollo. Colour TV studio cameras were truly enormous in the '60s. Not exactly a feature that appeals when you're trying to keep weight to a minimum for a lunar landing.

And they did take numerous high quality photos with the Hasselblads that they took up there.
Funny you taking this line though. One of the usual Hoax lines that gets trotted out is that the photographs that they took up there are too high quality!

I must be the only person on this forum who fails to see what the point and need of human space travel actually is? I obviously do not group all rocket technology into this, we clearly have a huge need in terms of satellite technology, but what does human travel actually achieve other than blowing billions of dollars every year worldwide?
Walking on the moon for example, great fun i am sure for all involved. But why? We gained nothing from this did we?

We gained a load of Technology from it.
We will also gain another planet and unimaginable amounts of resources. Something which requires slow progression in technology until it becomes cheap enough to actually make economically viable. We have just entered private space race, which will open up these doors. It's no longer limited to multi billion government programs.
And more importantly adventure. If we stopped exploring then we would stagnate.
Why build nice buildings rather than cheap concrete boxes, why commission art or status, why have nice food. it's all the same argument you put forward. Humans have a fundamental need to explore, discover and learn. It drives technology, which drives economy.
We will also gain another planet and unimaginable amounts of resources. Something which requires slow progression in technology until it becomes cheap enough to actually make economically viable. Not sure i see it, it doesnt interest me so i dont see the sense of adventure, and in any case how can billions of dollars be justified for what you are effectively saying is indeed a jolly for those interested?
We already don't bother inhabiting and developing huge parts of our own planet (most of it infact!), why do we need another one?

You need a second planet for safety. You also need to send humans as robots do not have the same skills or feelings.
Ignore the vast amount of technology produced from human space flight.
Ignore several companies that have set up shop, to mine resources in space.
It might not interest you, that doesn't mean you can't see the benefits.

Advancements in technology
It may have the ability to bring the planet together
Resources
Colonisation of other worlds
Who knows what we may find out there!
