Apple cinema display 27"

I don't like the coating on the dell screen, I prefer the high gloss finish that comes with the apple cinema display (others will disagree with me i know!)

Also the dell does not have built in speakers & webcam, so more clutter!!

If my card has a display port, I can get an adaptor right and it will still work?

not thta i found i purchased 3 adapter and 2 cables they all didnt work,, the only only option i ofund was atlona adapter but pricey it was as cheep to replace graphics card.. ie buy one with mini display port built in

Nope that'll work fine :) I had a similar setup.

I had my Mac Mini plugged into my Dell via display port and my PC by DVI, if I wanted the PC I'd used the OSD on the monitor to switch inputs between the 2 :)

Hi

Just about to buy one of these, couple of last minute questions:

I have an NVIDIA GTX 570 with display port. I have it on good authority that you can use a DP to MINI DP adaptor and it will work fine.

My only other questions are relating to the audio. How can the audio pass through the graphics card and into the monitor? Do I need an extra connection? I read on another forum about an SPDIF cable to allow sound to come found the motherboard > graphics card > display port >

Any advice on this issue would be appreciated before I spent £800 on a monitor!!!

Thanks

The audio should in theory pass through the display port, you'll probably have to install some drivers etc. but just be aware there may be funny business happening with the adaptor that may or may not stop the audio from being passed through.

if your using mac add still the usb carries the sound so you plug the usb in from the acd...

also i tried dp to mini dp adapter didn't work or switch the add on for me,, of course they may have new one that do but they didn't back for me only option that fully worked was a card wit mini display on it.. not adapter unless you spending for the atlona ripoff..

Thats a shame, there are few nvidia cards with mini display port built in.

I wonder if it was a one off as other users have reported the screen working with a DP to MINI DP adaptor.

Also, Mini-HDMI is not Mini display port.. right?

well can only say from my experience and i have 5 acd's now and tried many ways all didn't work.. the adapters are made but there is no on of switch on a add its turned on by the pc etc..

you need female mini display port ,,, not male ,,, I've got some of the cable i purchased all claimed to work i imported them from states and nope they didn't ,, go in apple shop ask them for cable you'll get blank looks

and correct mini display it different to mini hdmi

Thanks.. and when you say adapters, do you mean the Atlona adapter? Or just the regular displayport > mini display port adaptors that are sold on here?

the atlona adapter is a expensive hardware not just a adapter... it does the same fro what has been said

however i repeat i have tried a few cheap cables and adapters and NONE work the acd will not turn on and yes ive tried it on various pcs with display port / hdmi / dvi none turn the acd on..

the only way i got it working is orignally with a imac graphics card running in a pc ,, now a graphics card with the apple mini display port on it.. this works perfectly and you can use boot camp log in as anohter user and increase decrease brightness,,

if i use any of my macs to set the brightness then plug the acd in the pc it goes to full brightness it doesnt keep the set level brightness unless told t oby the pc it booted from,, again my experience and like i said i have a few of these acd's but others may indedd got different results.. i didnt get theres..

good luck
