Apple 'Spring Forward' Event 09/03/2015

I haven't watched the keynote to be honest, but jesus there's a lot of choice. Are the watches actually different? Between the "watch" and the "watch sport"? Is it purely looks or are there actually HW/SW differences..

£300 starting price. OUCH. Plus I think it's ugly anyway.

What idiots are going to purchase the gold £8000 - £13,500 one as well! They seem to look rubbish as well! Could get a beautiful watch for that much.

All 3 watches are the same, in terms of software. The differences are the base watch is made of either Aluminium, Steel or Gold. The second difference is the bands. The Aluminium one just has a couple of different types that cost more or less the same price. The 2 more expensive editions have straps that vary in style (and price!!!).

So anyone buying the £13.5k version?

If they are very limited then getting one and selling it on could be good.

I like the Space Black with Black Stainless Link but even that is almost a grand.

Surprised Cosimo isn't buying one with his wealth :p

I'm going for the Stainless Steel 42mm with black sport band, glad the stainless steel models are being offered with the sport bands as I thought it would just be the alluminium one

If my brother heads over to the US sometime soon I might get him to pick me up one.

£600 here or £450 over there if you convert $ to £.

Much more durable in steel and sapphire glass and I can't help the feeling that a watch will get more abuse than a phone. I take care of my phone and it has a case. A watch will catch on things and hit things by accident.

Might I ask why? What tangible benefit will that offer? Ion strengthened glass is extremely hard to scratch and if the aluminium is strengthened like apple are marketing, it should hold up fine.

Stainless steel scratches to buggery, so don't see how aluminium can be much worse in that respect. And you certainly won't scratch the screen if it's sapphire or not... I've had mineral glass watches for years and they've been fine.

Just so everybody knows, you can get various adaptors to give power, video, and USB from one port simultaneously, as listed under Accessories (towards the bottom) of the MacBook page: http://www.apple.com/uk/macbook/specs/

However, the digital multi-port adaptor is £65. The USB-only one is £15 but you'd need to carry it everywhere if you use USB frequently.

Personally would still recommend the Air if you want the best balance, though the rMBP now matches the battery life it seems.

£1,117.20 for the high end Macbook in the Educiation store!

Pre-Ordering a Space Grey model right away when possible!

I can't help but think that the new Air is just a stopgap solution to another generation coming in the Autumn with USB-C etc. I want to get one but part of me just thinks it's a bad idea.

I would say so, Im guessing the Core M would be similar to mobile versions for tablets?
Would like to be proved wrong though as if it's powerful enough, then I might get it.

MacBook looks good, will see how it compares to my 2 year old i7 Air speed wise, presumably a fair bit slower?
Yep, for the most part. It wouldn't really be a sensible move aside from the form factor.

Think of it as an ultra-compact alternative as opposed to a replacement for the current Air in that respect. There are benchmarks out there for the Core M SoCs.

It's difficult to say which processors Apple are using as the Core M models listed on ARK don't correspond directly to what Apple are offering: http://ark.intel.com/products/family/83613/Intel-Core-M-Processors

This article compares the Core M against the i5 Haswells (4250U is the base Haswell Air CPU). The i5 Haswell ranges from a bit to a fair amount faster. Keeping in mind the difference between the i5 and i7 Haswells is not insignificant, the Core M is a pretty big step down.
