Apple support - What utter ****

Yep, I just made it up to look cool didn't I

If you seriously believe that the guys in the Genius bar/Apple store aren't trying to get the most out of you they can you are deluded.

I got an out of warranty MBP repaired free of charge and ultimately replaced with a new machine. I don't feel ripped off. In. The. Slightest.

As with any big organisation there might be the occasional customer who doesn't get top quality service. Perhaps your local Apple store has some training issues? A handful of (biased accounts) of cases of mis-diagnosis doesn't make the biggest computer company in the world a joke.

I've had a screen replaced on a 27" iMac and a MacBook repaired both free of charge and out of warranty. Apple often rate top in customer service surveys/awards.

Some times people don't get good service though. My brother had to complain to a manager once before he git anywhere but overall I've had better CS from Apple than any other computer company.

Im not basing my views off of one Apple store. I work for a company who inspects and repairs computers etc on the behalf of several of the largest insurance companies. When Apple (or any other store) tell a customer their unit is not repairable, they claim on their insurance, it comes to my company. We then check the damage and things like fraudulent claims etc and look to repair the unit to save the insurance company money. We get units from the whole of the UK.

Not only this, I am basing my opinion of them 'being a joke' on how they deal with our company and other accredited companies (everyone has the same opinion we do when on courses etc), what they do with old parts (use them for so called brand new machines), and their policies on how repairs are dealt with (like only 1 part for a repair allowed). Not to mention the god awful point system they use for their service providers. A lot of this stuff affects the customer, and they end up having to shell out more all the time.

Never had this problem because I don't buy shoddy hardware/Apple (so called) devices in the 1st place. I go to this most awesome place called OcUK and buy form there CS is awesome parts are always in working order and you get free Haribo! The only time I've ever heard of faulty hardware the CS experience was excellent I recommend binning all that apple nonsense and buying form OcUK!

My experience.

My 3 month old iPhone 5 started switching off randomly and wouldn't switch back on again for hours. Booked appointment, met with a "genius" (laughable) who ran tests but because he couldn't replicate it there and then he was unable to do anything. Impossible situation for me as I couldn't exactly wait there for hours and hours until it did it again so I ended up selling the phone for spares or repair.

My brand new 27" iMac had a faulty graphics card when it arrived. Took it back to the Apple store who said they'd repair it. I said I wanted a replacement not a repair but apparently it's company policy so I left it with them for 2 weeks while they fitted a new graphics card. 2 weeks later I collected it and found that they'd cracked the screen. They claimed that it was already there and that I'd need to pay for the repair so I kicked up a fuss, demanded to speak to the manager who eventually agreed to give me a brand new iMac as a replacement.

My brother's experience.

His daughter dropped her iPhone and smashed the screen so he went into the Apple store to get it repaired. They took one look at his account and found that he had almost 20 devices registered so they gave him a brand new iPhone for free, no questions asked.

So the answer is to buy lots and lots of Apple products and they'll treat you well otherwise expect crap service.

OP said:
This, this is EXACTLY why I despise Apple, what an AWFUL company
They are not an "AWFUL" company.
OP said:
I love my little iPod
This is why.

TL;DR Apple are ****.
No they are not.

I say this as someone who uses a Windows PC, a Windows tablet, and an Android phone.

You have had a bad experience, it happens with every company sometimes. Most people have good things to report about Apple customer service.

The chap who said "It happens sometimes" is probably absolutely right, but it was not really something he should have said. Because it just fueled your opinion that they are a bad company. He was put on the spot. It happens sometimes with every company.

Apple are a fantastic company, whether you like the products or not. Period.

Let us list all of the companies we have had good customer service from, then trawl the internet for reports of bad customer service from these companies. Then we can label all of these companies as ****.

Indeed. OCUK have their fair share of negative reviews, but they're still my go to company for tech. Any company with a lot of business will ultimately drop the ball at some point, c'est la vie.

Unlucky, and I guess you never knew about they need you to book an appointment, (free on their website), to see about anything. I thought that was a widely known fact ?

Why on earth would it be a widely known fact that you have to book an appointment online to speak to someone in a high street store?

Wern't they going to go under due to the fact no one was buying their **** until Sata...*Cough* "their Head Marketing person" AKA Steve Jobs came back and convinced everyone that they were the best thing since sliced bread?

They're a fashion accessory maker nothing more!:p

If you say so. :p

The business model works exceptionally well, their company image is fantastic, the quality of the products is unrivalled, the customer service is among the best.

I worked in an Apple repair centre for a brief spell, so have worked inside Macbook Pro's, Mac Pro's and the like, and the way they are designed is amazing compared to competitors technology. The now decade old PowerMac G5 is exceptionally well designed and engineered even to todays standards.

Apple are doing very well, as their stocks indicate. I personally, though, find their business model contrived and their product range stagnant.

They are a business at the end of the day. Their mission is to make money, and, unlike some other companies, keep the punters happy. They are very good at both. ;)

Yeah, you can't argue with that. I'm not disputing their success as a business, just highlighting my apathy for them.

In which case you are only going to see the unsatisfied customers. What's the percentage of customers that get referred to your employer as compared to the number of repairs Apple carry out?
