Apple TV 4

All done via iCloud and other streaming services like Netflix, you can stream from iTunes if you wish, but you don't have to.

Yes it'll use a wired connection.

When using local content, does iTunes have to be open? Or can the ATV Access the library without iTunes if it's on an external drive for example

Think I'm going to wait on this for now, there are a couple things that make it less useful currently. A few software updates and I'm sure it will be perfect. Shame about Prime not coming to ATV, it's one of the few devices that won't offer the complete streaming package.

Amazon instant video isn't on Apple TV, Chrome cast or Roku... it would seem to be a deliberate move by Amazon rather than all of those manufacturers snubbing their service.

While the speedtest app looks nice on ATV, it is reporting much slower speeds than my phone, anyone else noticing this? ATV is plugged in via ethernet too.

What speed is your internet? The Ethernet port is only 10/100, so if you have an internet connection faster than 100Mbps, it may be better to use the WiFi as it has N/AC specification.

It is a bit annoying, but that is down to Amazon at the moment unfortunately.
You can use Airplay from your iPhone (if you have on) however to play streamed media that way. Not ideal, but it works. I'm doing the same for Plex at the moment whilst I wait for the app to be released.

Ahh that explains it! I'll leave it for now as I'm sure ethernet is more than adequate for the media I'm streaming to it.

Picked mine up yesterday :). Not reall had a chance to play but it seems to stream had content over wifi fine :). My old one struggled with that :(

Checked out the specs. Astonished it doesn't do 4K! I think Apple have missed a trick there especially as the 6S can take 4K video.

May be something on the cards for a future software update, as you say, the specs seem to be up to it.
I don't care mind you, I have no 4K screen, and don't foresee myself getting one any time soon. My TV is good enough, and the only thing that lacked was the software was getting somewhat slow and clunky. Having the AppleTV refreshes the entire setup.
