Apple vs Samsung, court orders Samsung to show Apple 5 new phones

Swipe to unlock is 'sexy' and all, but only an idiot would use it. Modern mobile devices contain way too info to not protect them with at least a basic pattern or pin code.

The odd thing is, if you setup a pin or pattern, you still have to go through the lock screen first. It really annoys me, as it's an extra barrier to me using the phone.

Why can android do away with the lock screen if you've setup a pattern or pin unlock?

Which phone/ROM are you using? Every android I've had has gone straight to the password/PIN screen as soon as I hit the unlock button.

Previously a HTC Desire S custom rom but running Sense.

You had to do the usual slide to unlock, then enter your pattern.

Now a Defy running CM9. Here again, it's turn on the screen, slide the lock icon across the screen, then enter your unlock pattern.

It's a pain.

Take a look in the settings menus, you can probably turn it off.

Settings -> Security and lock screen -> "With swipe lock". That sounds like it might do what you're wanting?

Bit of an odd conclusion you've come to. They haven't been told stfu over FRAND, they just have to go through the proper channels first.

What's more interesting is the appeals court has said the regional court have over stepped over there remit, but doesn't say in what regards, anyone know?

Same, just tested with my S3 and it goes straight to the pattern screen, no need to unlock

Same here with the S2. Press home or power, and you get the pattern screen.

As for Apple's patent for remotely turning features on and off, I can see this working well for company phones in classified work, but the move (if it does happen) will force Joey Public away from the iPhone.

...And that the licensing fee of 2.4% that Samsung requested was fair, if only the opening shot in a round of bartering. Apple went bleating to the court that 2.4% was unfair.

Whatever way you look at it they've been put back in their box and told not to be so stupid. With any luck Apple will think twice in future before running the courts for their latest round of "innovation".

As far as I can see the courts haven't deemed it fair, just that apple needs to
A) negotiate
B) if still unhappy go down the mediation route

Only if those fail do they go to court.
Basically apple have been found not to be following the rules, rather than smasung being found fair.

:D errm what ?

Apple bought this to court claiming that Samsung had acted unfairly and asked for unreasonable licensing fees. The court found these claims not to be true, ergo Samsung was being fair...

But its ok, you spin it any way you like...

ETA: I think we can both agree that Apple, rather than following proper procedure just ran to court instead of doing what they should have.

Where does it say that?

There's a massive difference between chucking it out of court and telling a pple to follow the rules and declaring the actuall sum fair.
Media. Is bad at reporting but I haven't seen one wish has. Said teh court ruled teh fees where fair, just that apple have not followed teh rules and thus the court threw it out.

It would be like going to small claims court without trying to resolve the issue yourself, the judge would laugh at you and throw it out and probably wouldn't make a judgment on the actuall case.

I know this isn't the right thread to post this in, but I would only get jumped on if I posted it in the appropriate thread in the apple sub-forum :p

:D
