Apple vs Samsung, court orders Samsung to show Apple 5 new phones

I see.
In which case, surely the UI is a function of the Android OS, so why is Samsung the target? Why not all phones with an Andorid OS?

Because Samsung took what was vaguely similar (Stock Android) and made it look far more iPhone styled with their TouchWiz UI changes.

Things like the dots to indicate which homescreen you're on, isn't part of Android, it's just TouchWiz and takes the Samsung software that step closer to looking too much like an iPhone clone rather than a distinct phone.

Remove TouchWiz from the equation and look purely at a stock Gingerbread install for example, and I suspect half of those infringements wouldn't have stood.

It's a shame, because Touchwiz has, and always will be completely ****. It's the first thing I look to move away from on any Samsung phone.

Apex Launcher is definitely the best app I have ever bought for my GS3. I don't understand why they bother with TouchWiz when stock Android's interface is excellent to begin with.

Who stole from who apple?

I'm confused, So are you saying that if Samsung stuck with stock ICS then we wouldnt have this problem? Then why was Apple harping on about the shape of the phone, which was the part i think is pathetic

(Another Apex user here, it's the dogs ********)

Anyone who claims that they don't look the same and it's just market progression needs to look at Windows 7. Things don't and shouldn't look the same, and anyone arguing they basically don't look identical on the home screen should go visit an eye doctor...

Even HTC have scroll downward on their screens, rather than scroll right left. Hell they used to have you can move fluidly through icons rather than set screens, which I actually preferred...

Not impressed with this, there's only so many different ways that you can make a touchscreen phone and allowing Apple to patent as they have effectively could give them an unchallenged monopoly. Some of the ideas patented seem a little bit too generic or obvious to merit the protection offered but then again the American patent system has allowed other dubious claims before.

It's made that bit odder by the fact that Samsung make the screens (and other components?) for Apple.

yeah, load of rubbish, they only went after samsung because their handsets urinate on apples own from a height.
Just delay tactics because samsung always have a more powerful unit on the market at any one time

I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see the American patent system do something like grant Nike a patent on making footballs ball shaped and award damages from every other football manufacturer who infringed on the ball shape patent.

I hope this doesnt have an impact on Samsung products, because they are clearly better.

They can be better if they used a different interface instead of stealing the iPhone's interface. Change the interface, keep the features and they would corner the market without breaking the law.

I didn't know this:

Meh,I suspect the appeals will also plod on for a while.

You need to read it.

Perfectly normal descion by the judge and would be the same in the uk

Apple’s attorneys have argued that, because the F700 phone is not on the list of devices accused of patent infringement, Park’s testimony is irrelevant to the case.

I can't help but wonder how many iPhone users ever used any of the touchscreen handsets that apple copied when making the iPhone...
