That's very true. It should be 'you must licence this if you want to continue to use it', not ' pay this amount now'.
 
Great stuff.

I'm sick of all the phones looking similar to iPhone and all tablets looking similar to iPads

Blackberry is the only other phone that hasn't gone down the iPhone design root and is still doing very well (not sure if new Blackberrys have a 'home' type button and touch screen)

What about Windows phone? The new nokias are great I find.
 
I am not reading that huge thread, what bits did Samsung nick?

Exactly. Apple are playing the uneven patent system to stifle competition and need to be stopped.

How different can you make them though?

The reason they all look similar is because they are all touchscreens, so the extent of the design is basically - a screen.
 
If there is one thing this case has shown, it is that America has the worst patent system in the world. Winning millions on a bounce back feature is ridiculous, to say it is integral to ios is BS.
 
If extracted to the past, with patenting of gestures for actions, one could see an ancient world where apple patent the alphabet and sue anyone trying to use it.

Pinch to zoom.. What other methods of achieving it could you suggest?

Yep.

There's a difference between stealing, and building on other's ideas and following the market trends.

It's ridiculous that Apple might be able to get a sales ban on some of Samsung's devices. If someone really wanted an iPhone like phone, they will buy an iPhone, regardless of the similarities. Let the market decide who wants what product.

It's the only practical design avalible at the moment with our present tech. Apple are nuts if they think they can patent a shape. And they are just using patents to create a Monopoly. Which will slow down the rate of progress for everyone, competition is healthy. This has sealed the deal, never me or my gf will ever get another apple product again

Windows phone is very different. I actually prefer what they've done and am quite looking forward to Windows phone 8.

I just Googled "Windows phone" and unless I'm missing something, I fail to see how it's 'very different'. To me it looks basically like most other smart phones - big screen, three buttons at the bottom for home, back, menu, or whatever.

Can you show me a picture of the one you have in mind?

EDIT: Are you referring to the physical design or the UI?
