Apple vs Samsung, court orders Samsung to show Apple 5 new phones

So i basically could apply for a patent for a turning door knob then. Cool rich's here come.

Yes, clearly all the governments and lawyers of the world have never thought of this possibility. They obviously know less then a bunch of random people ranting on OCUK that have probably never read a word of patent law.

Why not go ahead and give it a try.

So you think these people are smart? Just because they wear a suit and use jargon words.

Its not the lawyers and governments of the world, its the Lawyers and Government of the USA.

Have you been keeping up with the current news concerning them. They have one of the most screwed up justice systems, for a first world country. The head of the science division in the senate Akin or whatever, doesnt understand global warming and believes womens bodies have a way of preventing pregnancy from rape. Their country is basically insane, at least large parts of it.

The evidence that they are smart and know what they are doing is lacking.

Talking purely from a hardware prespective:

Wired how Apple has steamed ahead with the iPad and andriod is playing catch-up. But with the information being leaked out about the Iphone5 is looks like for the second year running Apple's phones are the ones playing catch-up.

All countries use a first to file patent system. The US was the exception with their first to invent system, which will be changing to first to file in 2013.

This is not arguing that the patent system as it stands is much good, but the last few posts in this thread were just people clearly ranting about stuff they have little knowledge of. People so eager to lambast the US as "stupid" that they criticise them for adopting the same system as here, without actually realising it's the system we use. So I guess it's not just the government of the USA then is it?

Apple are pathetic, why only go after Samsung, why not all the other manufacturers that produce Android devices, after all, they all have pinch zoom functionality.

Bottom line is that Samsung is a threat, and all Apple can do is try and play dirty.

I owned the first generation iPhone and I then went to a ZTE Blade and consequently a Samsung Galaxy S. I only rarely miss an iDevice and primarily because there's a few apps which are available on iDevices that aren't on Android but the basic functionality trumps iOS.

They have gone after others hTc for a start.
In patent cases you usually go after one company to start with in each condutry. If you win, you then use that presence to take the others on. There is zero point taking all companies on together, till you have a ruling.

What about Blackberry and Microsoft?

It's ludicrous to claim patent for pinch to zoom but then the patent system is a complete mess anyway.

I wonder if anyone's patented the wheel.

Blackberry tablets have pinch and tap to zoom functionality.

Maybe it's programmed differently.
Another interesting a reticle. About rim and the situation in general. Saying rim didn't do rubber banding due to the patent, so it would be a bit odd if they did pinch to zoom knowing it would break the patent.

Or if it stands up to the appeal perhaps they will go after RIm.

I imagine RIM license it from Apple.

Also, please buy a keyboard.

Google maps have been around since Jan 2006 iirc. I'm sure I've always used a double click to zoom - this isn't an apple invention, surely!

(Assuming double tap = double click).

In terms of pure hardware Apple is always going to playing catch up for a large portion of their product cycle, due to the very nature of how they release phones and the sheer amount of competition making Android devices.

True, but the S3 has been released months ago, and the iPhone5 will not beat it. it will still have a lower res screen for a start! The S4 will probably come out Q2 next year and God knows what will be in that one!!

Most people couldn't careless about the hardware though. They want something that what they want, when they want, easily, and quickly. Apple products do that very well. Of course anyone on these boards knows that software is only part of that, and you need decent hardware to drive it, but non-techy types haven't a clue.

This.

the funny thing is that hardware is less powerful than for e.g. s3.. yet it will cost more.. :) i understand if they were trying to drive the price down.. but now? i swear i've read somewhere that an i phone 4s 32gb costs like $179 to make..
