Apple vs Samsung, court orders Samsung to show Apple 5 new phones

As people have pointed out, you're paying for the entire package. You may not think it's worth it, but a lot of people do. It's quite simply a matter of preference.

Either way, it's hardly a rip-off in comparison, let's be honest. Still, the specs aren't confirmed yet, there's just a lot of speculation.

If they do turn out to be true, it's starting to sound less and less interesting, especially as the iOS 6 changes weren't really anything to get excited about either.

no it doesnt :) i have an iphone 4 at home and it lags more than my s2 does.. i have a mate with 4s and it lags too.. oh the smooothness.. :o

You can't say it doesn't do its job well. It does. That's like saying the S2 and S3 don't do their job well because they're made of plastic and not something more fancy - nonsense.

People should buy whatever does the job better for their personal needs. Personally I find android is a much better system for my phone while the ipad offers the best tablet experience. How advanced the hardware or software is is irrelevant if it doesnt do what you need. Unfortunately the majority of the non 'techy', public will buy whatever is most popular or what their friends have, which is probably an apple product.

it does it job :) but no way is it worth the price they are asking for it :) so it feels "premium" because its heavy and made with metal and glass?

God knows what you did to it.

like you can do a lot with a stock iphone? download apps thats about it. :o

Yes, one of the reasons I like the design is because it doesn't feel plasticky.

I'm guessing he loaded hundreds of apps onto it, left them strewn across the screens and wondered why it was running slow :o I got my iPhone in May and since that time I've not noticed any slowdown.

my s2 is plastic :) bar the battery cover it feels SOLID

it was my ex gf, who had an iphone 4 and it used to lag doing the same tasks and her phone was far from full..

then it was my work mate who upgraded from 4 to 4s and he said its smoother but still lags sometimes

then my step dad has an iphone 4 full of games but again it lags quite a lot..

the funny thing is that hardware is less powerful than for e.g. s3.. yet it will cost more.. :) i understand if they were trying to drive the price down.. but now? i swear i've read somewhere that an i phone 4s 32gb costs like $179 to make..

The bill of materials for most high end phones is around the $200 mark, probably even less for Samsung as they produce a huge amount of the internals themselves.

You're also failing to take into account the R&D and software development (which Apple do in house, whereas Google handle a lot of it for Android handsets).

I guess it's how you use it I suppose. I have about 6 email accounts on mine, a few gigs of music and a ton of photos/videos and about 50 apps I think. I don't close off apps either but that doesn't seem to impact it at all.

Again, that's opinion. I'm not sure why you're including what I can only assume are 'passive aggressive' smiley faces, too?

It's similar to saying a Mercedes S Class isn't worth a hundred grand because you can get a Vauxhall Insignia for thirty, or less. I'm sure both sets of owners may disagree.

It depends what you value personally. I think there is an obvious quality when it comes to the iPhone, something that Samsung phones don't have, despite them being generally as nice to use and of course better in some ways.

True, but the S3 has been released months ago, and the iPhone5 will not beat it. it will still have a lower res screen for a start! The S4 will probably come out Q2 next year and God knows what will be in that one!!

The S3 isn't even retina resolution - I thought the screen was only that big to accommodate a decent battery?

There's no such thing as 'retina resolution', it's to do with pixel density. The S3 is higher resolution and larger, so Apple would probably classify its 306ppi as 'retina' because the viewing distance vs the 3.5" 326ppi screen would be greater.

Haha so you have to hold it further away even though its still supposed to be a phone? I know they look cumbersome but that's ridiculous.

In other news Samsung still not learnt their lesson:

Attempts at decent Apple style marketing fail spectacularly though:

You don't have to, no. However that's exactly how Apple define 'retina', for example the iPad 3 is only 264ppi but it's still classed as retina because the larger screen would suggest a greater viewing distance.

It's not true of course, I hold a tablet roughly the same distance as I do my phone but I was only using Apples own definition.

Exactly. You can't in one post say it has nothing to do with the size of the screen and viewing distance and then say 'err, but thats for your lap so it can be a lower res'

apple change the definition of 'retina' to fit the ipad 3, it use to be just about the dpi of the screen. it wasnt until the retina ipad that apple decided we hold these devices at different lengths - i dont know anybody who does tbh.
