Apple's marketing strategy

If you're talking about just getting you from A-B, then what does an iPhone do that a Nokia 3210 can't?

They both share all the snazzy features... Tiptronic auto, digital everything, electric everything, automatic everything, heated everything, a million speakers, comfortable seats, chrome, fancy lights, good build quality, etc etc. The difference is that the R8 looks nicer, sounds nicer, and goes faster.

An iPhone can do a great deal that a Nokia 3210 can't. You may as well ask "what can a computer do that two tins and a bit of string can't?" :p

So basically if you buy an Apple product you're a rich kid, a sheep, or both?

lol

I am talking about the 80s not now.

Apple do make good phones I am not saying they dont but the OS is so closed!

I need iTunes installed on my PC to put a song on a iPhone. Android just drag and drop!
;)

You cant apply this to Apple to be fair.

The fact is a Rolls Royce is more expensive because it requires more man hours to complete one than a Mercedes S-Class, a lot of work is done by hand. Mercedes can roll of the production line much faster than Rolls-Royce. That doesn't mean Apple has some magical Rolls-Royce type production going on.

When It comes to small electrical items you have a production process. You produce whatever you want to specification. Once the production line is in place, it's in place. I know Apple must have implanted in your head that they have some Rolls-Royce type hand made stuff going on but the fact is, No. The fact is Apple barely has any products being produced at any one given time, their entire production line consists of just a handful of items, which actually cheapens their production costs due to the limited specifications, but lo and behold they have managed to lie and make you believe its more expensive.

That may not be the case for 99% of people on here but ask the general population what's so good about the iPhone and they won't be able to give you an answer. Ask them what makes the Retina display so much better than every other display and they won't be able to answer.

Apple have almost got a cult following of supporters that would blindly buy anything Apple made and that does make a large proportion of them sheep imo.

I know how the devices are manufactured, that isn't what I meant really, with regard to the hardware, I meant that the way the devices are designed internally, the way the PCB's are printed and so on, is more advanced than in a typical android device. Many of their products are like that. I remember looking in a PowerMac G5 and thinking that it looked like it was from the future. No other systems had internal designs anything like them.

With the R8 vs Skoda analogy, I meant more in terms of the way the UI flows. They both do the same thing, the iPhone does it smoothly and while looking nice. The interface feels "premium". My old iPhone 3GS was more pleasant and flowing to use than any Android device I have used. Which includes an Xperia Z2 and a few top end HTC's, a few Motorolas etc etc. It just felt "nice".

This. The less apps / drivers that are required, the better. Different debate I know, but I learnt years ago to embrace portable apps. It means that I can reformat a Windows PC and not have to faff about installing stuff as everything is portable - Open Office, Gimp, Winamp, 7-zip, Pidgin, Firefox/Chrome, Foxit (I mean really, do you need 200 megabytes worth of Adobe Reader to open a PDF file lol) etc.

I used to dislike Apple devices - I still 'hate' imac computers. My housemate had an iPhone and I decided to try it - instantly blown away by the ease of use. Just a touchscreen and a home button. How easy is that? (that was when no other phones had touchscreens)

Back to the strategy - are there any figures on Apples turnover? or turnover/sales of iphone 3 > 4 > 5 > 6?

See, I- ... oh

A fallacious analogy I'm sorry to say.

An R8 actually costs more in materials and workmanship to produce than a Skoda. The UI in your is software only a UI, merely a set of graphics to relay computer instructions. It's a good UI, yes, doesn't mean it's somehow magically more "premium".

Apple just takes the best of everyone elses stuff and uses it. This is why Apple makes 1 phone every couple of years and Samsung makes dozens. Samsung is always innovating. Apple simply takes the good things, tidies them up and puts it into one product which they milk for years. In their own word, simple.

You are reading way too far into the analogy.

You know what I meant.

I know what you mean.

What I'm saying is you're wrong.

Sorry but due to Apples manipulative practices, I like to be very precise/anal when it comes to discussing Apple.

Its just a phone no big deal here! ;)

Apple and Android do a good job at what we want, but some of us like to look under the bonnet. Apple is no no when it comes to that! ;)

Apple, Android, Microsoft etc. We all happy phone users, I dont like apple, if you do well thats fine with me. ;)

really?

I always found the iphone horrible to use really awkward with controls hidden in odd places. i keep having to hand it back to people going "eer how do i go back etc"

Apples manipulative practices are one of the things that make them a fantastic company. I have massive respect for their manipulative practices, as someone who is quite interested in business. :D
