Mk3.5? Initial reports are the facelift has addressed some minor issues which make it feel like MX5's of old. I know someone who took one round the 'ring recently and found it very capable.

I am planning to do some MX5 racing next year funds allowing and I am currently discussing the build of an MX5 racer for that series. It's a good little championship with packed grids and relatively cheap running costs so my aim is to get a car this year and do some testing then do a few races next year. So it will be a MK1 forming the basis and then some minor mods and safety additions to make it ready.

Sounds good, i had a good poke around a few Mk1 based racers back at JAE2007 since we had one on the stand, looks like a nice cheap and fun way to enjoy racing.
 
Wow, 12.9 @ 110mph, that's moving ! Are you sure you only have about 250bhp? That really is some crazy terminal speed. Normally see 400+bhp cars running 110mph over the line!!
 
Yup I think it should be around 250bhp. I know its just a theoretical calculator, but Letstorquebhp thinks:

Quarter Mile (Secs) : 12.86
Terminal Speed (MPH) : 107.45

Based on 250bhp, 980kg and RWD. Which seems roughly accurate going by the figures I put in. I think I could work on the launch a little and see that time.
 
The guy I was against at Santa Pod was only pulling 12.7 @ 106mph. He had been dyno'd at 450bhp 500lb/ft :eek:

Fair play mate, that's one rapid machine you have there.
 
I know a couple of guys both with blob-eye Spec C imprezas at around 370bhp. And they both run mid to late 12's. It sounds like the guy with the 450bhp one either can't drive or his figures are a bit optimistic?
 
Not optimistic - saw the RR print out, and I know the car, I think he can't drive it that well... I was running late 12's with 300bhp though, in a lardy 1495kg STi. I imagine my time would be so much better, if only 4th to 5th gear wasn't such a huge jump in terms of the ratios. It's almost like the car bogs down. I hope to be in the low 12's after some minor work though.
 
Must have been very nice launches indeed. Santa pod looks so beautiful. The tarmac looks so sticky compared to the bumpy crail airfield!
