Must have been very nice launches indeed. Santa pod looks so beautiful. The tarmac looks so sticky compared to the bumpy crail airfield!

The problem is, it's sticky all the way down, so you don't accelerate as fast as you would at Crail for example.. I think your terminal would be lower at the Pod to be honest.

Swings and roundabouts I guess then? Do you think the pod might see a faster time but a lower top speed?

Possibly. You'd definitely get a better launch (if you get it right of course). Pod is really hard to get right, so easy to just bog, and if you launch too hard the spinning feels horrible! But that's because it's so sticky!

Have you tried Elvington before?

Elvington or York raceway ain't too far away really.

Nice time to put down in alittle mx5 bet it shocks some folks lol

I am planning to do some MX5 racing next year funds allowing and I am currently discussing the build of an MX5 racer for that series. It's a good little championship with packed grids and relatively cheap running costs so my aim is to get a car this year and do some testing then do a few races next year. So it will be a MK1 forming the basis and then some minor mods and safety additions to make it ready.

Ahh cool, which series? There's the ma5da and Max5 iirc, first round of the ma5da series is televised tomorrow at 7pm on channel 178.

Probably easier and cheaper to buy one of the already race prep'd 5's no? I know there's a couple of people on mx5nutz who race in the series or have experience, and one of them fixes some of the ma5da race cars I think.

Looks fun

I've never really thought seriously about nitrous. To me it seems like cheating a bit. I suppose a 25-50hp shot might give a nice boost. With so many other things to do first I'll leave it just now.

I've got a spare engine to build up. There are guys running 500whp on built miata engines in the states, but obviously there is big money involed and not on my shoestring budget!

What you looking at doing? Just changing rods for 300bhp? Or going to get yourself pistons too and low the CR a little, think they usually go for 8.4:1.

Edit - Also have a look on miata.net about the people doing the aero changes. I am very interested in doing a front splitter that then leads onto a proper undertray, at least back to the gearbox. Past there you need to be careful about airflow allowance into the engine bay.

I started an aero thread on here a while back. It didn't go well!

I was planning on going GT28RS on standard internals for about 300hp. While I'm running like that I'll rebuild my spare engine, and if it decides to go pop I'll put the built engine in and go for ~350hp.

It feels great. Most people are genuinely surprised at how quick it is. Sometimes it gets a bit tiring getting past peoples preconceptions about the car!

TBH if i hadn't been in quite a few really powerfull 5's or not owned a supercharged one myself, from an outsiders point of view i'd find it hard to belive as well :)

Buts this thread displays the facts, not much weight plus 200bhp upwards makes for a rapid motor :)
