Aquiss

I so wish we had City Fibre. Anyway you can check if any of them will be installing in my area soon, fed up of Openreach prices.

Yeah it's quite a big difference, though Im still happy with the Aquiss 1gb package via Openreach. We only had the option of VM a few years back and their steep prices.

Helps that in the grand scheme of things that CityFibre don’t actually have that many customers, they only recently just hit 1 million connections.

Only in terms of their ISP customers and the speeds they can advertise. Openreach are more than capable of making moves if they lose customers due to the products on offer (as opposed to pricing, and Ofcom won't let them get into a price war). It's easy to lose sight of what people are actually buying and their monthly budget for an internet connection, I think one of the ISPs a few years ago (might even have been Aquiss) said their most popular FTTP product was 80/20.

Yup, that's was us. The sub 330Mbps packages still make up 68% of the portfolio of new orders coming in, with circa 41% of that 68% being the 80/20

I think Openreach are also protecting their leased line business at work we’ve just signed up for a 1000/1000 leased line and that’s the best part of £5k a year.

Yes to a degree, but that 5K would have been 15K a year less than 3 years ago. Leased Line pricing is coming down quite a lot now. We seeing some networks, such as ITS able to do 1Gbps services for less than £100 a month now.

If you need a leased line you still need a leased line. While technically possible, no broadband provider is offering diverse fibre paths and failover at at a layer 2 level with multiple VLANs carried over the circuit with end-to-end QoS.

I'm sure someone could create a product where you take multiple services from different physical networks, use private addressing on the PPPoE sessions and then run BGP over it but nobody is doing that and then only charging £50 a month for it.

It was all going so well...then you mentioned £50

Oh definitely, we were previously paying almost 6K for a 100/100 leased line.

Upgraded to 2500 Monday, went through over night and tested yesterday getting around 2300 from most places that support higher speeds.

I know a few of you here have been waiting for this... 5000 package, can't order yet only register your interest.

@aquiss Martin are you overlaying PPPoE on the Netomnia packages, or delivering straight-through IPoE as provided by them?

Edit: Yes I could have dropped you a line, but I figured I won't be the only person here to benefit from the answer to this in the long run. :)
