Arc Raiders

Well after having a real good run of resource harvesting I got had by the oldest trick in the book.

Activated a lift and just as doors open I heard on voice comms "Please wait! Please! Hold the lift please!" I replied "no worries" and waited til he got in, activated the lift controls and bam..dead. So thanks "morty" at least I got an achievement from it :D

Every death is a 'I won't do that again' moment.

damn. I can't find a sodding dog collar for my chicken! I have ransacked some apartments but no joy. I guess it's just RNG not being kind to me. oh well as least I am getting metal bits and chemicals etc whilst looking I guess.
Here’s the thing, once you get that sodding chicken upgraded, you’ll find ****** collars in every drawer you loot from that point on.

so far I have only been killed twice by raiders. once was in the lift. I had been downed by the drones and he just finished me off... the other was seemingly camping not far from where I spawned.
whilst I was instantly reminded why I don't like PvP I can live with it so long as it does not get too much more back stabby than it is.

the free loadout is not too bad and you get to keep the stuff at the end to sell or breakdown. only thing it's lacking is one of the secure pockets but that is obviously deliberate.

once I upgrade my crafting stations a bit and I can easily craft better gear I will start using the better stuff.

You can trade the free loadout augment with Lance for a real augment too without any cost!

So I tend to do 1 or 2 free loadout runs, take my loot if I extract then swap my free loadout augment for Looter Mk1 augment (which comes with the prison pocket) and then do another 2 or runs with those. In my mind I'm treating it as essentially free runs as I'm taking the same gear I got when I was doing my free loadout runs (guns, meds etc.) - with the only difference being the prison pocket to guarantee that one item that I don't want to lose.

how do you get the augment for no cost? thanks.

Once you've unlocked Lance as a trader you can talk to/accept quests from, you can 'purchase' the augment (tier 1 only) for combat, tactical or looting from him - the only 'payment' is trading in your free loadout augment that you'll have extracted with.

Every now and again the gif has to get dusted off.

Yea I do a similar thing, if I get killed go free load out, and then build from that.

I also have a set of fancier gear that I take out now and then if I'm playing with my mate on duos, so far have not lost it.

It is quite forgiving really.

cheeses me off when they do that. but that is part of the design I suppose.

Back to back raids too  don't think I'll be trusting that in duos anymore. Some sort of "honour" system could be interesting and would fit with the games lore, but implementing one seems like it would be very difficult to do well.

Mainly played solo last two days. Its been super profitable! Some really productive Spaceport runs. In one I bumped into like 5 people everyone super friendly. The contrast between solo and duo's has never been more stark!

I think they should record damage done to other players - total in all games, then put a bounty on the guy with the most in every game. A big bounty.

I'm finding that quite a few people have stopped using the emotes and now flash their flashlight 3 times to indicate they are friendly and await you flashing your flashlight back 3 times to indicate you are friendly too. I assume this is because its quicker to hit the flashlight key than it is to go to the emote wheel and select an emote. Which harks back to one of my early QoL wants, which is a default emote button where you can just press a button and it will use your set default emote, instead of needing to use the wheel.

Someone did an experiment on Reddit, one player was console, the other was pc, can't remember the actual results but the console guy was getting destroyed by hostile players almost every game, the pc guy almost the opposite.
They both went in as friendly using voice chat comm wheel etc so the moral of the story for pc players is turn off cross play if you don't want it sweaty!!
I have to give the exact opposite opinion to this! Just my experience. Playing on PS5 and still fairly low level (8 I think), first few runs I teamed up with 2 other randoms and ended up killed by a group of three every time. Have been solo from that point on and haven't fired a single shot at or been fired upon by another player. My playstyle currently is just float about the edges of the main buildings of the Dam just doing my own thing with a free loadout, dressed in the n00b jumpsuit outfit. Nobody bothers me, I've not even been shot in the lift which is surprising. Only ever encountered solo players pretty much doing the same thing. Had my first foray into Blue Gate last night, only had time for one game, spawned near the farmhouses with less than 20 minutes to go. Had a look around then exited via forest shaft, took refuge in the little shed while waiting for it to open and was joined by two friendly randoms. Was yet another round where I didn't fire my gun at anything.

I am very much a Division 1 & 2 vet so used to the repeated runs, looting and min maxing gear. I really like the game, don't get me wrong. I love the premise and the setting. I am currently struggling to see what end game is though and questioning the (or my) longevity of it. Have started on upgrading all my benches but I don't have much use for the things I can currently craft, let alone more advanced stuff. I get it will allow me further into the game, give me the ability to take down bigger Arcs but then I'd question what the point of it is? I might spend some time upgrading some weapons this weekend and see how I go up against the tougher Arcs, perhaps I need to find a team to run with but yeah, it's currently feeling like its shelf life is limited for me.

I feel like thats a question which is at the core of all competitive shooters including Arc Raiders, I mean whats the point of Tarkov, or Hunt Showdown, or Hell Let Loose, Counterstrike, Battlefield or CoD. I guess the point of all of those is nothing more than to have fun and when its no longer fun a person moves to the next competitive shooter and has fun there. Tbh, I dont think theres much more point to any of the ones above than that.

With 122 hours, level 71 and everything done, and an inventory full of rares and epics. I think I might be close to being done. The game is good and I'm glad I had fun at launch but the cracks are starting to show now.

I don't know how they matchmake skills or loadout values, but there clearly is something, free kit solos almost always play vs free kits and the lobby is almost always friendly. But the downside is that if you like some of the rare weapons and you take one, or possibly 2, with upgrade and mods. You get matched with ultra sweats. I'm generally OK at holding my own, I'm not the best PvPer but I'm OK, and I win quite a lot of the exchanges I get into. But it's the CONSTANT third personing, or 4th. Someone hears the fight, they pop up and dome the winner. There's literally nothing you can do about that, there's too many elements out of your control. And I feel that even if you matchmake your skill evenly with other players, the odds of you successfully winning like 3 fights in a row to get to the extract is small.

It's now become that custom loadouts is kind of a death sentence, it's very rare I come out of a custom loadout game with rares equipped, this frustrates me no end because some of the coolest guns are rares. With everything done and all there is left is to fight, I find myself having the most fun with free kit and low tier gear, but it's become repetitive and boring. It feels like these are 2 extremes and there's no middle ground, extracting feels more like sheer luck most of the time.

Exactly, it's a game loop you either enjoy or don't. Neither is right, it's personal preference. Personally I find Arc Raiders quite superficial ( with some major technical / game design flaws ) so have moved on.

With matchmaking, does it stop you attacking your own team as your in a "group" or can players that want to be an arse still back stab you at extraction?
