Arc Raiders

I must admit I hope it doesn't go the way of all high level pvpers just clubbing casuals. I quite like the balance I am getting now with probably 4 out of 5 players either being friendly or at least neutral doing their own thing. if it goes too much the way of day z or just full on PvP as a priority over actually looting the mechs etc then I really hope the Devs put in matchmaking to keep like minded people together.

as some players get to the "end game" with all the pve content exhausted then that is when it's likely to get full of pure player killers which will kill the game imo

This game is becoming unhinged lmao. The reddit has fallen into serious disarray as people are psychoanalyzing others for their actions in game. Earlier today I killed some looter in a high loot zone getting his fill, and after I knocked him out he added me on steam moment after to whine at me.

I think we're seeing the beginning of the end for the casuals now.
Still trying to work out what I am doing that means I dont encounter this stuff ! Earlier today 4 of us teamed up to kill a bastion on Stella, then we all looted it, then we split our seperate ways, no shots fired. In a later round, I bumped into someone, the usual dont shoot lark, then we chatted briefly (turns out the guy was from Wales) , then another person bumped into us, asked us where a certain quest item was, we showed him where it was, then a 4th person ran past being chased by a shredder, we all killed it during which a 5th person had arrived, we ran around for a bit and then extracted together. Its been days again for me since someone last shot at me :)

Thats pretty close to the ratio I get , probably 1 in 10 people actually fight, so 90% of the time its friendly encounters. (which in itself causes its own problems, as per my earlier post about how easy it is to build up currency and loot if nobody is shooting you)

So how sweaty is this game? I must admit it wasn’t even on my radar but I’ve heard various people say the community is actually very welcoming and not as hostile as expected.

How is this if you play it by yourself?

I have been out of gaming for a long time and don't have any gaming friend groups anymore, the odd person here or there but scattered after years away.

Is it worth it as a single person?

Same question, should I rock a mic solo for the best experience? I’m too old to have regular gaming buddies as most have retired to adult life.

If you're going to play solo ( or in a group ) I'd strongly recommend using a mic. That said, I don't think the community is anywhere near as welcoming as it was at launch so don't expect a "friendly" time. This game is devolving into battle royale-esque PvP, which for some might be what they are looking for. Problem is the PvP isn't particularly engaging due to 3rd person perpective ( which favours ambushers, camping extract points etc ), short TTK, bad desync and an increasing amount of cheating.

I have not played it any other way yet, none of my mates have got it. I really don't do PvP. I got the game despite it's PvP not because of it . so far (touch wood) I am getting on with it fine. the potential for PvP gives it a little extra spice but so far it's mostly been PvP free. I feel a little guilty that I don't use my mic with randoms with so many people actually chatting. I may have to set it up for this game which for me is a 1st in games with random folk

so far i have been killed by 2.players I think and I have killed one .

the bots OTOH ..... they have messed me up many many times.

I persuaded an attacker not to bother killing me. I said (truthfully) I had nothing of value on me I'm just on a low loadout run looking for blueprints, and running the worst pistol possible just for killing ticks and poppers. I just stood there not even shooting him while he reloaded. He said that everyone said they had nothing on them but he let me go. The psychology of talking to other people in this game is really interesting.

I'm finding the ratio changing, I'm getting attacked more by opportunistic soloers. Usually getting jumped on after an ARC attack and I'm repairing myself, or looting a building, quite an easy one for a stalker/camper to hide up.

I was questing yesterday and a girl's voice came over comms saying a similar thing "I have nothing of value on me, I'm just questing". Definitely interesting psychology and definitely true you have to go with your gut feeling when approacing/being approached by another Raider.

To be fair in about 10 runs I had two PVP attacks, on the high value night raids.

For the night raids I'm just running a really minimum loadout, sometimes not even a gun. That way I don't care that much if I get downed.

I've been downed far more by the Arc than other players, especially on the night raids.

Tried and failed my first solo offence, guy on roof next to solar panels where I needed to get to was taking out all players in sight, so felt safer if I tried taking him out first, but he knew I was coming and had something to hide behind, live and learn, next time grenade first, was close though, probably 1 shot away from dying.

I get around 75% of players with anvil and decent aim, I just go in too offensive that's my problem :)

The game needs a loadout button, spend half my time reloading lost items :p

I also got taken out on new map, everyone's on the outskirts running in, someone took me out with lvl 1 pistol, is my face red, that might be a good/evil tactic where you have nothing to lose..

I have a friendly time about 9 times out of 10, people need to use the same magic peace potion that I do if they are finding that they are being attacked more often than they arent being attacked :p

Yes, this game ideally needs a mic. You'll get thrashed in duos or Trios if you can't communicate, and in solos you want to be able to negotiate friendly with other people as you're learning and that's best done over comms. The emotes in game are clear which is nice, but that human touch makes a big difference.

You can still get this, but generally only if you run free kits. It's obvious the way game works is it puts free kit users with other free kit users, and only breaks from this trend if matchmaking takes too long. But there's so many people doing this that there's constant games. It's extremely rare that I see anything other than a free kit when I take one. But the moment I take a custom with a level 4 Uncommon (green) then everyone has custom loadouts and it flips from 90% friendly to 90% KOS.

The problem is that the game with free kits is like 30% of the game, you're missing out on so much more, the whole pace and tone of the game shifts. People with a lot of utility are harder to fight, can set more elaborate traps, they generally have more tactics available to them, plus you're missing out on a whole slew of weapons.

I just spent almost the entire day playing duo's with my mate. out of what was probably around 15-20 rounds we played today I only failed to extract 2 times. 1 in dam where we were surrounded by two other teams at control tower and another in buried city where we got involved with someone elses 2v2 by accident and a third team of three showed up to see what was going on. Wiped us all out.
I've been quite lucky with PvP today had a few encounters with duo raider teams getting too nosey and too confident only to taste the wraith of my anvil/bettina combo. PvP combat is incredibly satisfying. Nout better than a flair popping off!!!
