Are EVGA taking the mick

Maybe the kingpin cards are just super-limited editions that would normally be placed "among" the classys. I mean, even if you have 1000 classys cherry-picked, some of them will be better than others, one might be a "perfect" chip. I mean, even among 780's classys there were some that didn't clock as much, while some did a +200 offset on core (or more). After all, EVGA only guarantees the classys to run at the specified boost, no more.

So purchasing the "regular" classy you will still get the one that overclocks like hell and is a god among GPU's.. you just don't have the chance of getting a "perfect" one.

That would explain the very limited availability.

Edit: Who's to say the "best" classys would never see a regualr consumer anyway, I bet those are the ones that are being sent to kingpin and 8pack etc. to bench. Now they just sell a few as kingpin editions instead. Point is, you don't "lose out" by buying a normal classy probably.

Edit2: And I know 8pack is not evga-sponsored, it's just an example. I think he's MSI?

Hello Kaapstad,

where did you get the information from that we use special bind chips for this model?
Generally the King Pin card is built for Extreme Overclocking with face or LN2, under normal usage there is no need for this edition because you would not gain extra performance compared to a normal classified under air or water. As long as you do not want to break world records with LN2 it is not worth to go for the Kingpin Edition! Only if you want to collect it ;)

Hi there

Spoken to EVGA:-

780Ti ACX - Due on 17th December, but only enough to cover our backorders.
780Ti Classified - Due December 23rd if luck, again only enough to cover backorders.
780Ti Kingpin - Due Jan/Feb.

Great info Dominik and great to see you clarify the Classy is still the card to have :)

So what are the specific changes made to the Kingpin model to justify the price tag? I thought someone from EVGA had already clarified that they were higher binned.

Doesn't sound good for people who haven't pre-ordered!

I didn't pre order as I couldn't decide which one I wanted, I'll probably be waiting until Feb now to get a card in my hand..

EVGA GTX780Ti ETA

See, for once early adopters do NOT get shafted :P

Hi All

As you can see I got an update to Gibbo this morning. I have stocks landing at our European base in the coming days, so some GTX780Ti SC ACX have been confirmed for the 16th December.

We are working hard to land as much stock as possible of both the GTX780Ti SC ACX and the GTX780Ti Classifieds with OCUK on the 23rd December. As long as all shipments land on time we will hit this schedule.

I will keep this up to date in coming days hopefully with good news.

Thanks for your patience

I have always taken the view that the Classified has filled the roll you have outlined above. With the announcement of the Kingpin Edition you now have two cards targeted at the same part of the market. In answer to your first question below is an example of the info doing the rounds on the internet.

Card confirmed to have even higher binned chips over regular classified, has an upgraded VRM section even beefier than Classified and a price ballpark of $800.

I also think EVGA have made a marketing error with their 780ti line up. I think it would have been better to announce the full 780ti line up and specs (including the Kingpin Edition) when the 780ti's launched. This would have avoided any confusion.

Agreed, the lack of official information leading up to the arrival of the Classifieds has left a lot of people stumped as to what the Kingpin card is. Which in part almost seems deliberate.

Regardless of what is the case, I'm unhappy purchasing the Classified at this point.

Is there any info on the 1300W PSU as there are some EVGA guys in this thread, been wanting one for a while and across the UK I can't find them in stock. Nothing else seems to come close in price/performance for such a big psu, but everywhere I've checked has no idea when stock is coming in.

Might as well order the SuperFlower as they're the manufacturer. Although EVGA are arguably worth it for the support alone. Most of the time anyway :D.

Well, I've been checking most days for a couple weeks, OCUK has taken the higher end EVGA psu's off the site completely now :(

Problem is, I've seen it for as little as £150, the superflower one is £180 cheapest I've seen and has a 5yr warranty vs EVGA's 10 year. £30 cheaper and twice the length of warranty is a bit hard to overlook..... except you know, not being available :p

Last thing is, the platinum's have retarded led's for all the cable plugs, and I really can't stand random led's on things you can't turn off. It isn't listed as a feature afaik on the platinum so I'm kind of just assuming it's there on the gold, though I can't find any reviews of the gold model.

Either way, it's also overdue :(

If it were in stock and a little cheaper I might just buy it even with the ridiculous LED's. £150 for a 1300W with 10 year warranty that is said to be excellent is really hard to look past though.

I've never had a PSU for more than 4 years... Are you really going to have the same PSU for more than 5 years?
