Are LED TVs better than Plasma

LCD flaws:
-lottery dependant uniformity of brightness, black levels and colours
-backlight bleed ^
-greyish blacks^
-black crush (VA)
-IPS glow (IPS)
-blurry motion
-up to 100ms response time for white-black transitions^

Plasma flaws:
-no 10-bit colour?
-flickering
-phosphor afterglow
-buzzing sound

Can't say I have had any of them on either Plasma or LCD screens tbh....

Forgot can't see plasma in bright rooms, significantly higher energy usage and lower resolutions.

what a load of tosh

a plasma if you watch your tv for 10 hours a day - but most don't as they have jobs. will cost you at best an additional £30 a year to run over an LCD.

also plasmas were significantly cheaper to buy over their LCD counterparts that offer similar quality and still are.

to get an LCD which matches my £799 plasma costs £6,000.

you would have to be an idiot to worry about £30 a year when blowing £6K on a tv with the same quality as my £799 plasma.

also resolution isn't enough to justify buying LCD. I'd rather have a 1080p plasma than a 4k LCD as they currently stand.

There is no development of plasma now. It will get left further behind as time passes.

it isn't behind though.

plasma is ahead of LCD in terms of motion, colours, contrast, black levels, etc and most likely will be for a long time.

it's been a few years now since R&D stopped in the plasma world. yet the only lcd that can stand on the same level of them is £6K.

as time passes you may be able to get a LCD the same quality as a plasma for £2K but it will likely be 7+ years before they make something for £1K that is better than my £799 plasma.

FYI I have a 50" GT50B

show me an LCD which has left that tv behind that has been reviewed by either avforums or hdtvtest

I've yet to see anything come close to my basic Pani, that doesn't cost the earth. Even the parents 2k Samsung screen doesn't compare (though that might be due to content, and poor setup). Until then I'll just keep my Pani.

Today is the longest day. You do know it's still sunny for some people from 5pm - 9:30pm… Even on a really great hot summers day it's still blasting rooms after 10pm. Even though it can be a very slow sunset. I've seen it after 11pm and peoples rooms can be a heavily orange but still too bright for a TV.

I never really understand all the hate to LCD. I think it's perfectly fine tbh.

Is yours edge lit? Edge lit that creates dirty screen effect is the worst. As it shows up on foggy/cloudy dark grey scenes and fast panning.

This. Happy enough with my Samsung 46" F8000, until I get my hands on an OLED.

HDTV Test seem to agree too.

Conclusion

Samsung has not held anything back in creating its flagship LED LCD TV this year, showering the F8000 with an utterly gorgeous design, sumptuous high-definition pictures, class-leading standard-def handling, bright and full-res 3D images (which also manage to be nearly flicker-free), as well as an impressive array of Smart TV apps and functionalities.

Taking into account 2D, 3D and Smart capabilities, as a package there’s no better 46-incher available to buy on the market than the Samsung UE46F8000.Like its bigger brother, it’s a worthy recipient of our “Highly Recommended” award.

Yes. Panny PZ85 before it.

The latest last top end Plasma may egde my LCD, but I reckon a worthwhile difference will be when I switch to OLED for it's awesome black level and contrast.

And as a package for now, I'm very happy with the F8000. As are reviewers.

Have you also owned a Plasma, or compared it to one?

Or are you just saying "yeah mines looks good" ?

MOOGLEYS owned a ZT. Question is how pernickety he/they is.

Some people haven't seen dirty screen effect, DFC on Plasma and other flaws until pointed out. Then they can't stop seeing it. It's why a lot say don't go looking for the flaws.
