Are OCUK Forums in decline?

Where do you draw the line? What is deemed as racist? What is racist which differs from a 24 hours ban to a permaban?

*sighs*

It's the lots of little posts V the big bad post theory.

DirtyDogs posts and threads are racist, not openly (as that falls under the big bad post side) but he posts lots of little bad racist posts, certainly in terms of underlying themes.

The Shopkeeper thread was shocking, it should have been closed much earlier and was only closed due to a moderators being accused of being racist and it boiling over.

Well it would have been unrealistic if he had said any other descriptive. You expect a certain kind of answer based on the cliche character of someone from pakistan, which is obviously quite distinctive. Which made the first post quite funny, i laughed. Still a stupid thread though.

Like I say, where do we draw the line? What would the "rule" be?

If someone was being abusive to a user regarding race, then understandably they will be banned, but openly talking about it... You cannot really just ban someone for that unfortunately.

I mean, really? Do you even need to ask this?

A racist post is a racist post and shouldn't be tolerated. That's should apply to an openly racist post or a subtly racist post.

Is using race as a descriptor racist? Can I use blond hair but not 'black' skin as a distinguishing feature?

Are you prepared to be intolerant of free speech in order to be intolerant to racism?

Well the quote of dirtydogs above isn't racist, yet in some views someone finds it offensive.

Do we call someone that is the colour black. Black, Coloured, Brown, Non-White, Ethnic... Where is the line drawn? Everything seems to be deemed racist now. People look too much into it, and think that talking about someones skin colour, even when not being offensive is racist?

It's funny though, if it's someone who's black who commits a murder it's "Black man murders war veteran", but if it's a white dude? "Man murders war veteran", why does it make a difference if he was black or not?

Accentuating the point of their race is just trying to bait replies and get other bigots to agree with them, something is not automatically worse because a black man did it, and someone did not do it because they are a black man, their race is irrelevant and it shouldn't be a discussing point what-so-ever.

You obviously don't watch the news then do you?

And why would you get a pummeling? becuase you were being racist towards them. Yet on the internet "****" is short for some from pakistan..:(

I'm sure the offended parties would give ample time to explain this pendantic stance whilst quoting the mighty 'internet', people who truely believe this should go outside and try it for themselves :)

I have certainly noticed a number of people not posting much anymore. Have also noticed lots of new members though. I reckon people post until the end of uni, then get a job and family and don't get time.

I can't fathom where you are going with this.

The majority of his posts have racist undertones.

No, I'm not sure you're getting this. Racist posts are racist posts, it can be implied or openly racist, it's one and the same.

Using the word 'Black' isn't racist. Talking about someones skin colour isn't racist, it is however different when DirtyDog starts a thread about black crime and uses it as a platform to spout bile about 'them'.

Seriously. Racism shouldn't be downplayed or attention diverted away from it, ignoring a problem won't make it go away. Deal with it. Nip it in the bud.

I don't get it, that's exactly what he was. **** is short for Pakistani for God sake. It's no different than calling a Scotsman a Scot.

It's VERY different then someone being called a Scot or Brit

It's been offensive to Pakistani people for nearly 50 years, the fact you don't except their right to be offended by it says a lot about you tbh

To get technical about it, if for example you hear in the press that someone killed their family. They won't need to say if it was a white or black person in this instances. But if someone commits a crime like the norway mass murderer. They will describe the person in the press, just the same as recently the man who murdered the cops parents and they called him a Lithuanian.

Okay then, is that why I have had various pakistani friends? =/
