Are OCUK Forums in decline?

As has been already mentioned, quite a few posts ago, the only thing I have noticed over the last few years that has been in decline is the standard of punctuation, grammar and spelling.

It isn't just this forum where I have noticed it, I am on a couple of other forums and I don't know whether it is just because I am getting old but I often notice spelling/grammar mistakes before the subject the thread has been created about :(.

With regards to the thread as a whole, I have laughed at how a relatively innocent title has evolved and spawned a massive racial/racism/PC thread which, I have to say, has been a very entertaining read :)

Well, I just hope some good comes out of the thread.

You cannot argue with the fact that a lot of people do have concerns about racism here and that has to mean something (even tho we may feel like we are getting somewhat ganged up on) our hearts are in the right place. Some of us have suffered racism, we may have friends who have suffered racism. We are not just bleeding heart liberals who cannot take a joke, who cannot discuss things given the correct sand pit nor enjoy the halarious cliché that comes about from people being different. We would (and do not) not stand for racism in real life, so why should we on an internet forum. Right under our noses.

You may not want us here, desperatly trying to explain that if one does not read between the line you are in danger of giving racism an, albeit small, soap box to preach from.

As I mentioned before I would rather respect minority groups by deleting (not locking) and permabanning obvious racists, than respecting the racists by not doing so.

We are not just trying to cause trouble. We are trying to help with OcUk's image, not only that but we are concerned about what our youth read on this busy forum.

Best call it a day there, be seeing you in the next blatant yet apparently unstopable racist thread that slips through the net, disguised as a lamb in freedom of speech clothing :)

Hey, did this thread not disappear into the ether.....I go away for a couple of days and it's back!!!

It's because the forums are dying, they could not afford to let such a popular, interesting thread die. ;)

In response to the OP, yes I've noticed a decline. Ah well.

Still on racism?

The very idea of OcUK being a racist forum annoys me, it clearly isn't. I also don't think the likes of FF would stand for that kind of posting.

I think people get very confused on what racism is. Mostly due to poor education, or just stupidity of people mis-reading posts. Not anyones fault but their own.

For some time my interest in the forums has been waning. I mostly post in Motors and I've come to realise most of the postors are morons who add very little to my day. A good portion of the non-moron posters I speak to in other ways, so I just don't feel compelled to read or post there much any more.

I've been happier away and spending my time doing other things - even working!

After time things change though - people grow up or have different interests. I know I went away from the forums for about 6 months. Life sometimes gets in the way.

If anything the userbase is always changing. Familiar posters like Nix, Andelusion and Lysander just don't seem to post anymore for whatever reason, or they post in different threads. My new lifestyle and appreciation of free time means I post differently too (certainly at different times).

In 2003, of the 4 main forums I posted on, I posted on OCUK the least.

Since 2007, it has switched to the most, with 2 of the original 4 getting almost no posts/views from me.

Times change brah.
