Its obvious they have there problems, no denying that!

But is it really that bad, I mean I know its easy to say yes when you see the problems listed on the forum, but really we only hear about the problems...or an I kidding myself.

Ill be getting one in about 2 weeks (yay), I blame my mate for letting me play his :D and seeing some vids of COD4.

Also, I dont have an HD screen, tho I have a good quality Aquos LCD which im hoping will still look good, so is it worth getting the Elite over the Premium?.

Im a casual gamer, dont have much time to be anything more, tho the online mutilplayer thing looks a hoot (havent had a go on that before :D)

I've read reports of the failure rate being above 30%. Don't let it get to you though, the warranty for the 3LOD (most common failure by a stupidly long way) has been increased to 3 years so you've got no worries there.

I wouldn't bother getting the elite really unless you're going to be storing loads of videos on it or downloading loads of extra game content.

I've just bought mine, had it about a week, And everytime It takes slightly too long to do something, I get a little panicky. lol. It's gonna be a long 3 years. :p

But yeah, as said. Warrenty covers it.

But in answer to your question directly. Yes. The build is that bad :p

It has cooling problems, yes but they are fixing it, it's well built otherwise for what it does.

What about the Dvd drives that scratch discs aswell?

thats 2 problems. And considering both the DVD drive, and keeping the console running are the essential factors in a console. I have to disagree with the "it's well built otherwise for what it does." :D

They were too slow to acknowledge there was a problem. Yes I believe the failure rate is eyebrow raisingly high. I'm on my third in less than two years.

However, do I think that MS are on top of repairs and the situation is improving? Yes.

Don't be scared by the doomy news. If it breaks, you're covered.

I agree the hardware build and cooling wasn't the best but providing you try all you can to keep cool (good vent, surface etc) you should be fine ... I've had mine since spring it's crashed about 3 times which is pretty good considering a lot of peopel have thiers 1/3rlod on them. In all fairness MS have fixed/replaced bad units so don't let that get you down to much.

The quality should look fine although HD would be better. COD4 BTW is the WINNRAR!!

I wrote about his a while ago on my Blog after seeing my mate's fourth Core give him the 3RLoD's.

The cooling design was poor from the outset, which has hampered the 360's reliability. Having said that, I'm still waiting for my launch day 360 to kill itself. I swear I'll be shell shocked if it makes it past the hammering it'll receive over the next few weeks with Assasins Creed and Mass Effect arriving.

The only reliable 360's imo will be the ones featuring the .65nm cpu's and gpu's.

How many discs have your 360 scratched?

Off course you go by internet people moving it when playing then try to claim innocence :p

i dont know anyone with a 360 who hasnt had a red ring failure, two are still going despite the consoles throwing a wobbler every now and then, the other 4* have been replaced once.

*one may have been twice its a bit dubious that one.

I haven't, now you know one :p

* Touch wood !

Short answer...Yes!

They are built with very cheap components and shockingly bad thermal paste. The cheap thermal paste is my theory as to why they fail so easily coupled with the fact that the heatsinks are just too small. They should have used a copper heatsink on the graphics. The thermal paste on the chips is like cement and dries up.

I have taken mine apart several times and since i have put some proper silver thermal paste on the chips it hasn't crashed once. This a January 2006 model. Never had a RLOD either.

Josh

EDIT- Also the whole case and inner shell is all extremely cheaply made and feels...well...cheap. IMO the only thing of the 360 that is of good quality is the controller.

I'm still on my first Xbox and I've had it since about 6 months after launch. Never scratched any discs because I've never moved it whilst it was on. It has crashed a couple of times but apart from that its been fine.

I've had 2 Fail on me and now i'm on my third (elite) had it since launch day and it's never skipped a beat /crosses fingers and touches wood!

It's not till you buy a PS3 do you really notice just how poor the build quality is with the 360, Saying that the 360 is still the best when it comes to games :)

PS3 is the way. :)

its true, altho the xbox fanboys dont like us mentioning it

and vice-versa. ps3 'fanboys' dont apperciate 360 'fanboys' saying this either. Trust me, check GameTrailers forum.. its Fanboy heaven!

Ive had 2 360's, 1 banned, and 2nd one im on now running perfect :D

but 360 IS the way!

sigh lol

Well im getting one, I kept praying the 65nm would show up but im just gonna bite the bullet.

Tho is it preferred to buy in shop for the warrenty reasons, or better to look online?

I'd say shop, less hassle if anything goes round you just whip it round to shop again and complain.

Plus you get it that day, no delivery charge and most times shops have better deals from my experiance.
