Are the 360's really that bad build wise?

sigh lol

Well im getting one, I kept praying the 65nm would show up but im just gonna bite the bullet.

Tho is it preferred to buy in shop for the warrenty reasons, or better to look online?

Go for it mate, despite the problems it's the best console out there and it as a wesome lineup of games. The best place to get it from would be a High street store that specialise in selling consoles and games and even buying them and it's longer than 4 letters! They will swap a faulty console within the first year in the shop, They even tell you this when you make your purchase :)

I recomend an Elit bundle as it is more future proof and i've only ever heard of one person needing a replacement.

Good luck

Kinda caught between the premium and the Elite, things add up when ya get a couple of games and a years online pass thing, and really im I gonna need a 120 gb drive?

Also, if I get the right one shouldnt the Premium have HDMI?
Tho for my non hd screen ill be getting component cable with it.

Also, I assume any ethernet cabel will work with it (the 360 just happins to sit beside my wireless point/ router.

Sorry for the Noob questions, know every thing about the chip-sets used but nothing about owning one lol

I'm still on my launch console, but the reports of failures does seem very high.

Probably due to the fact that people feel the need to make a thread about it.

You won't need a 120GB HD now but you might in the future and that could cost you another £120 plus you know you will be getting HDMI and the extra cooling.

Even if your only going to use component i would still get a HDMI model as it's newer and more reliable you might also end up with a new TV in the future that uses HDMI so may as well future proof yourself :)

yeah it's just a standered ethernet port and you do get a cable with it. I use ethernet to.

Never be sorry for asking questions, thats how we learn :)

Well my screen does have one HDMI socket, but i currently use that for the PC to watch Tv, DivX stuff etc.
And I have a component switch box that id like to get the use out of lol.

hmmmmmmm edging on the Elite for peace of mind more than anything.

Fanboy rubbish aside...

The 360 hasn't got the best build quality, they are I feel a little tempermental and reports about 30% is perhaps about right.

But lessons have been learnt, mistakes are been resolved, and together with a 1 year replacement at place of purchase, or a 3 year replacement from the manufacturers themselves - all free of charge is pretty good.

The other fact that you have to remember, is the amount of people who HAVE had their Xbox360 3redlight on the them is high, but nearly everyone of those have moaned, groaned, cussed and sweared but had it replaced asap - wonder why that is? Perhaps because it's a damn good console that hey need to continuing using rather than selling it due to poor build quality or 'rubbish' console ;)

I've lost count how many people on here say they are trading in their PS3 or Wii because there's no games or the multiplayer is poor. Makes ya think!

~J~ makes a very good point, The 360 is so good that people do get them replaced and stick with them, I'm on my 3rd and if this one dies on me i would moan a bit but ultimately i would have it replaced or buy another because they are that good :)

Oh I am...just to make the choice for which one!

Alo I know im getting COD4, have to think about another game, I knwo Halo3, Gears etc etc, just dont know if i wanna buy two FPS on the same day, even tho its my favourite genre.

I have Halo 3 and Gears, I would go for Gears, not saying Halo is bad but Gears is better can be had quite cheaply now as well :)

They are shoddily put together.
If you buy one, it WILL break, I'm on my third whether its eating discs or overheating or just plain not working.
Which is a shame, as the pad is one of the finest ever made and deserves a better built console to go with it.

Yes but you are on your third which proves despite it's problems you keep going back ;)

I wonder if Wii or PS3 had these problems would people be on there 3rd or move on to something else?

Mines starting to crash quite a lot which is annoying me slightly.

Also the problem with unreadable discs is bloody annoying too. Gah.

I have noticed my once silent launch day 360's DVD drive becoming a lot noisier of late, so could that be a sign that she's dying? Bloomin hope so!

That's what happened to me before i replaced the thermal paste. It would constantly crash and did so for about 3 months. It didnt red light though. Think you were on Gears when i was always crashing.

See if you can return it or crack it open and replace the thermal paste.

I had a 360 for around a year, never failed on me once it was perfecto!

However a chap I know is on his 12th 360, and the last two of those have been Elites, though saying that he's had them since launch and a few have gone back for other reasons, not just 3ROD.

But in all honesty don't let that put you off because like I say I never had any problems with mine, and as has been said the warranty is now 3yrs.

Don't see why people are mentioning the PS3 here, it has nothing to do with what the OP asked, thats why these threads get out of control.

It's not till you buy a PS3 do you really notice just how poor the build quality is with the 360, Saying that the 360 is still the best when it comes to games :)

well, up until today when my second 360 went back (RRoD again) i had them side by side on a glass shelf under my TV, and i must admit to not knowing how to tell the difference between the two when it came to build quality.

one sat there looking all black and shiny (in between it's frequent dusting's) while the other just sat there looking not black and shiny.

as my 360 was going back, i had to unplug the scart lead that was a tight fit, i had to release the power cord by pressing the lock buttons on either side. as i unplugged my joypad charge cable the cover flap closed. so perhaps you could tell me and perhaps others who also don't know...

how do you tell the difference in build quality by looking at and touching them?
