Are the 360's really that bad build wise?

To me the PS3 always felt more rigid and firm - compared to a more flexible plasticky feel for the X360 (thats just taking it out of the box etc without powering it up or connecting it)

The weight of the PS3 gave me the impression of a less "throw-away" item, the x360 felt like a kids toy compared to a more expensive peice of av hardware.

1st impression only

my 360 died after 9months was getting no AV feed to my TV or moniter just black one day no error codes , they replaced the dvd rom drive and fitted the new heatsink and ist been faultless since , seems odd that a rom drive would do this .

Don't breathe near your PS3 or it will scratch, but yeah it has much better build quality :D, and with its dust problem then cleaning it is a military operation, amazing the build quality, you can just feel it when you look at it :D

Yes but you are on your third which proves despite it's problems you keep going back ;)

I wonder if Wii or PS3 had these problems would people be on there 3rd or move on to something else?

I've had it replaced 3 times, I'm not going to flush £299 down the toilet.
I didnt say that when it worked it wasnt a lot of fun either.

Thing is, my PS3 is a lot of fun, and doesnt brake down.

Its obvious they have there problems, no denying that!

But is it really that bad, I mean I know its easy to say yes when you see the problems listed on the forum, but really we only hear about the problems...or an I kidding myself.

Ill be getting one in about 2 weeks (yay), I blame my mate for letting me play his :D and seeing some vids of COD4.

Also, I dont have an HD screen, tho I have a good quality Aquos LCD which im hoping will still look good, so is it worth getting the Elite over the Premium?.

Im a casual gamer, dont have much time to be anything more, tho the online mutilplayer thing looks a hoot (havent had a go on that before :D)

no it's not that bad mate. i have about 40 people on my friends list. i know of only two who's 360's have died. one quite a while ago, and one a couple of weeks ago sadly.

yep there is a bit of an issue, but you have a 3 year warranty against the 3 red light failure so you're pretty much ok so long as you can do without your console for a couple of weeks whilst it's being fixed....if it goes wrong.

One last question...ehh I think...

If you buy online how does thw 3 year warrenty thing work then, do you deal directly with MS?

The only problem with Microsofts generous offer is that the lead time for repair can be up to 6 weeks.

When i called up to get mine repaired a week ago i was assured it is now 3 weeks - i hope it is! :)

I bought mine 2 weeks ago. Got a fantastic deal of a Premium with halo 3 and PGR4 and a bucket load of rubbishy accessories for £249.

I'm generally a nintendo man, but had the cash so thought i'd try out a 360 - knowing very little about them.

I had it positioned in the vertical position, I gently tilted the console back to plug in the wired controller and heard a funny noise. My PGR4 now has a nice scratch on it and doesn't go past the title screen. Considering that I've yanked gamecubes and wiis across the floor mid game to make controllers reach with no issue, I was pretty shocked.

I accept that this was my fault and soon found out that any movement when it was on was bad news. I picked up another copy of PGR4 and have been playing it all week. Today - the disc is scratched and I can guarantee the 360 was never moved. The scratch is nowhere near as bad and I can still play the game as long as I don't race in London or play 1 particular song.

The 1st copy is away being repaired *fingers crossed* for the sum of £4.50. I've moved the Xbox into the horizontal position now and hopefully no scratching will occur.

I'm impressed with the machine (apart from the noise) but v.confused about this disk scratching.

Like many others ive wanted to play the waiting game and get a 360 with a falcon chip and better cooling but all the reliability issues has put me right of so ive sold my soul to Sony for a 60gb ps3.

Just had my 6 week old elite rrod on me last night whilst playing COD4. Lucky I have my trusty ps3 sitting next to it (also with COD4!).

Shame really as COD4 was definitely looking a little better on xbox.

Although the xbox will start, 5 mins into a game it rrod. Will the retailer accept it now or does it have to rrod on boot?

Spookily it happened on the day that Sony replaced my PS3 with a new one!
