Are the GTX 970's & 980's already the best GPU's ever made?

Historically it has taken newer (smaller) fabrication processes and/or increased transistor counts to make a new graphics card leap ahead of the opposition. This time NVIDIA have managed to increase performance and efficiency whilst cutting the number of transistors on an old fab process. Prices (for the 970) are also admirably low.

I wonder, does this make the 970/980 Maxwell's the best enthusiasts GPU's ever made?

Ruled out IMHO because of coil whine, back to drawing board IMHO and wait for Nvidia 960 or what AMD has up its sleeve.

He's a troll that doesn't get banned because he trolls for Nvidia.

You have to wonder about it, many of his posts are like this, i have lost count how many times he has been RTM'd for Trolling, it gets ignored every single time.

No one calls an Nvidia user an Nvidia fanboy because they know they will have the rule book thrown at them, as has happened many times in the past.

He does it everyother post because he knows no one will touch him for it. it seems very much like he has the go-ahead to troll anyone he likes as long as its an AMD user.

After many RTM's concerning various threads in the GC subforum the moderators have decided on a zero tolerance approach.

Any more off topic rubbish, trolling, thread derailment will be meet with a suspension with no more warnings given.

If suspension doesn't work and it continues then access to this sub forum will be removed for the members causing problems.

If you think you are being singled out, picked on or anything else that could be considered "trolling" then just RTM it. Do not bite back, stay on the topic of the thread you are posting in.

quote :- ``That's a typical AMD fanboy response, which no-one expects anything different from you.

Tell me, just out of interest, what was the price of a 290x when the GTX980 was first released and what was the price of the GTX 980 ? That's before AMD **** themselves and reduced their prices by a huge margin just so that 2 or 3 people still bought them, not after.``

the 290X is still way too expensive, it's only certain cards that have dropped in price, the GTX 970 is very cheap in comparison

Mal you should have probably quoted the top part of your post instead of having it like that as it makes it look like your own opinion to those who aren't aware.

Edit: that ^^^ :)

@ Mal X, Did you just quote Lamb Chop without the quotes? ^^^^

you just repeated what he said word for word, is there any context to it?

Better sticking mr chop on ignore, I can only laugh at so much of the crap he posts before it gets repetitive. Him playing the fanboy card is hilarity in itself.

:p

All that's impressive about the 970/980 are the power usage, heat and over clocking. If they had the performance jump to go along with this they might be in the running but unfortunately they don't.

So no not the best cards ever.

C'mon Frosty. Humbug and LambChop are in totally different categories of fan.

I don't ever see you calling out people like LambChop for some reason, now that I think of it...

no that's his krap, my post is to say that AMDs card is still way too expensive (even now) compared to the similar performance from the GTX 970..........

mind you, not all 290Xs are the same because the best one is quite cheap ;)

A couple of the Vendors are stubbornly refusing to drop the prices, namley Sapphire and Gigabyte.

But most of them have seen sense.

For example:

Powercolor Radeon R9 290 PCS+ OC 4096MB
£215, is at least as quick as the 970 overclocked or not.
Its an awesome GPU for about £50 less than the cheapest 970's.

Powercolor Radeon R9 290X PCS+ OC 4096MB
£275, not quite a 980 but not far off, £170 less than a 980.

Those PCS+ card are pretty good, they are very well made, they are cool and quiet, they also overclock well. for that money they are excellent. :)

But that's like saying a mini with a 1.2 engine can now go as fast as a bmw M3 with a 3l engine and use a fraction of the fuel and cost a fraction of the cost....

The speed dunt maketh the man :D

No one who knows anything about pc hardware would buy a 290 now unless...

A. They were a fanboy
B. They were a noob

I'm pretty sure someone who mainly plays BF4 for example would buy a <£200 290 after the sale of the reward codes instead of a 970.
