Are we the New Man utd?

I think it's our popularity that irritates other fans them most. Even Liverpool at their most succesful period didn't have United's lustre and that's left their fans bitter. I quite enjoy the fact that we're hated because whatever happens at Chelsea at the moment, people are still paying more attention to Old Trafford.

Popularity with megastore shoppers , tourists from the far east and day-tripping families you mean? ;)

Thanks for proving my point. You can't 'not' talk about us can you! Wasn't there a premier league survey a few years ago on fans attending games and United had a higher percentage of people from their local area attending their home games than quite a few teams, including Liverpool, Man City and Arsenal. Even if you only including UK based fans, we'd still have a lot more than any other club in the country.

I'm sad to say that its a myth that most Man Utd season ticket holders come from outside Manchester. Apparently its about 95% Manchurians that have season tickets. The team with the most season tickets out of the area is Liverpool.

Just out of curiosity, where do you get that fact from?

It was a premier league survey from about 3 years ago.

Heres something similar:
And its Bradford that had the highest local support in this one.

And here is a report saying that there are more United fans than City fans in manchester, although a higher percentage of city fans live in manchester even though there are less of them.

Cheers for that. I downloaded the 2003/04 Premier League report and it shows very different findings:

Distances fans were born from stadium by Premier League Team

Distances fans now live from stadium by Premier League Team

<David Brent>Manchester United have the largest proportion of fans who live over 50 miles from their stadium and were born over 20 miles from their stadium- fact </David Brent>

About 5 years ago somebody produced the Times or Guardian and chucked it into all the Man Utd haters at work and they had done a study on season tickets. None of the Utd haters would believe it because they're all convinced all Man Utd fans come from London.

No, it's not spelt wrong. It's just a totally different meaning.

Mancunian - a person from Manchester.

Manchurian - Of or relating to or characteristic of Manchuria or its people or their culture.

Oh deary me.
Four years on the forums and first time I've had the grammar police on my back (or pedantic police).
