Are you a supermarket snob?

In short, no.

Generally shop at tesco because the delivery /pick up service is more convenient and they're generally cheap(ish).

Used to work for and shop at asda

I hate actually going inside supermarkets these days!

I was enjoying your post but you lost it all there because the St. Michael brand was dropped in 2000 :p
Do they not still use that name and/or their own branding for most of their stuff?
I admit I rarely (if ever) actually shop there. I usually wait outside or completely absent myself while the Mrs gets to wander around their aisles in her Country Life oufits, with the Barbour waistcoat and Hunter wellies, pretending she can afford a Range Rover and that her Honda CR-V is some sort of valid equivalent... which pretty much sums up M&S for me, really.

We do have a large M&S in the High Street, but that's surprisingly downmarket for their brand image, though perhaps typical of citing one'self in the High Street where one's doors are open to the peasantry... especially as they can use it as a thoroughfare between the shops out front and the back-road pubs.

I go anywhere, not got a regular one. I often look on my supermarket at the deals they have, especially on meat.

I'm not a massive fan of home delivery for a few reasons.

1. Many of the sell by dates are way too soon.

2. Badly packed shopping often leads to damaged goods.

3. Often too much stuff missing or poor substitutions.

4. Minimum spend too high if you only want 3-4 dinners for the week.

5. I like to choose meat myself. The pickers don't care what it's like.

I tend to rotate between supermarkets for offers and when I feel like being lazy and grabbing a ready meal of a particular type.
The big stores (Asda, Sainsbury's, Tesco & Waitrose) are within 10-15 minutes from my house (maybe 20 mins for Morrisons) so it's just a case of who's got the better prices on my main items at the time.

Tesco/Waitrose are probably the most convenient as they're on the way home from work, the others I'd have to detour to visit.

I generally use Tesco simply because there's a large one open almost constantly (they're closed most of Sunday but that's it) very close to where I work. I can conveniently go there at midnight after work. Shopping that late is much better because there are hardly any other customers to get in my way and be annoying. The self-serve tills almost always work very well except for very light items, so that's not a problem. The prices are OK and the food is OK and the shop is big enough to have pretty much whatever I want.

For me, which supermarket I use is about convenience.

My only issue with home delivery is I'll usually order something I've really been craving for a treat for that evenings dinner and it causes serious irrational anger when it arrives and that items been unavailable or subbed for something that could only be considered a like for like replacement by someone who's never eaten food before.

The substitutions are the best bit! We always order from Asda and whenever they sub something, it's always something that's far better or more expensive for the same price!

I go anywhere really. Usually go to the big Tesco if I'm doing a proper shop, or theres a little Sainsbury on the way home from work if it's a couple of bits. Or sometimes I'll go to Morrisons if I'm getting my hair cut. I don't really care!

I have a strong preference of Lidl over Aldi, although I prefer to shop at Lidl over everywhere to be honest. I worked at Lidl 3 years and have only good feelings towards the company :)

For my past 3 working locations, there has always a Tesco as the nearest supermarket, so while i do generally shop at Tesco, it's not due to any kind of affinity :p

I mainly shop at ASDA. I like their bakery and most stuff I buy usually has a deal.

Morrisons is my place outside of the big shop at ASDA. Their bakery is good too and they have a good meat counter.

Aldi I find shameless. I went in after a chap from work suggested it, so I went in and was drawn to what I thought was branded goods but was actually knock offs using similar packages.

Tesco I generally don't use, I don't like their bakery.

Sainsburys, not been to one in years, don't recall much about it.

Lidl, it's alright.. but too small to compete with my ASDA.

Waitrose, never used it.

Tesco - Metro, 2 minute walk, food is reasonable at a reasonable price.
Waitrose - Used to live near one and shopping with a scanner direct into my bag was nice. My wallet did suffer.
Sainbury's - Decent food, but does cost more than Tesco, but not always better.
Iceland for frozen stuff and branded goods when they are cheaper than Tesco. :D

Don't bother with much else, sometimes M&S for random bits.

I hate shopping, i just go to the closest one to get it over and done with as quick as possible, normally on the way home from work so which ever i pass. My closest place to home is a Coop so i shop there if im going from home.

I think i might have to give delivered shopping a go since i do tend to spend about £100 a week on takeways just to avoid shopping so much.

Yes,

Lidl (just seems less busy where i live)
Aldi
Morrisons
Iceland (always empty, get frozen fruit and some nice frozen fish)

Sainsburys mainly as they useally stock the stuff everyone else doesnt so maybe once every 6 months.

Tesco have the most clueless staff and i detest the brand and how they operate, will never shop there.
ASDA near me is just scummy.

and if so/not, which are your preferred ones?

I detest Asda, I'll drive an extra 10 miles to avoid one and opt for any alternative but most likely a Sainsburys or Aldi. A mixture of clientele and the sheer volume of them, ignorant staff, confusing store layout and useless so called self service areas which now either have conveyor belts or are too small to actually fit your shopping onto. I say so called because I've never used one without requiring assistance of some form.

However, right across the road from my local Asda is an Aldi. Great little shop, got everything I need at a cheaper price, I'll be served by a human and the car park is always near empty... It makes me wonder why more don't shop there?!

In order of prefernce these days I'd have to say:
Sainsburys
Aldi
Lidl
Tesco

I'm a Tesco fanboy through and through and I'm there nearly every day. Clubcard is great so I'm always bulding up vouchers. I currently have over £60 of vouchers to spend on anything I want. I use the other supermarkets you mentioned as they all have things I like that aren't at Tesco. But Tesco generally have the largest and cheapest selection of all, certainly cheaper than Sainsburys. There are two very close to me, one of which is 24 hours and is massive. So for me, Tesco is a no brainer.

I tend to buy mostly at Tesco as it is the one easiest for me to get to as I have to rely on public transport.

However I tend to try get my meat from the butchers as much as possible and the vegetables from the local market as often as well too.

Sometimes I will order online and that will usually be from Tesco though, occassionally I order from Ocado as on there I can get some stuff from back home in Sweden :)

Near my self i have the options of 2 Lidls and an aldi and then big super markets are Tesco and Sainsburys and a couple of coops.

I tend to stick to aldi and lidl for the main shops, and then some times visit tescos or sainsburys but very rarely.

Some times visit local butchers for the meat and eggs.

Cant stand big supermarkets normally as you just get distracted with tons of stuff, you dont need. Plus tons of slow idiots taking all day.
