Are you "attached" to your car?

Your views tend to change when you get older. I'm pretty sure the sort of things which now make you happy would have bored you to death when you were in your early 20's :)

Not completley true. I loved fast cars then and still do although i agree with you that priorities change and somethings become more important.

I used to spend £30 a week on Vinyl, now thats not a lot these days but way back in the 80's  it was a substantial amount.Would not dream of it now even if i could find vinyl to buy :)

Yes, unfortunately. Mines a rover 620ti, and I've replaced the engine, clutch, disks and pads twice on the rear - one disk change on the front. Diff seals, 2 wheel bearings. Drive shaft, complete exhaust then after 9 months it chewed up the top of the section before the cat because of loose engine mounts. Water pump, tyres etc.

Overall I've spent (and continue to spend) 2 or 3 times the value of the car. But I can't seem to let go of it hehe. Sentimentality really.

I'm not attached to mine but i also would be devastated if it was to get scratched or dented. I think this is down to the cost of it, well £2.5k isn't a massive amount but its still a fair wad of cash to me.

Looks like i'm in a bit of a minority then, quite surprising considering the number of petrolheads here.

That said i know most of these new jelly mould cars have no soul to love ;)

I am even more Attached to my Zook after it Wiped the Floor with 2 Landys yesterday.
5 seperate hills the Landys failed out whilst i wizzed up laughing my **** off. One also failed a drop as well but that was down to the driver having No gonads :p

Zooks Rule, It's Official :D

I cried when I sold my Impreza.

We'd been together for 4 good years but we'd grown apart and I'd stopped using her all the time and in the end we parted company.

Big mistake. :(

Still, as they say, replace her with a younger model. :)

Saw a convoy of about 4 or 5 landrovers heading up towards the A10 by Royston yesterday

Exactly what I like about it.

I think you mis understood my meaning mate.

With your 530 I meant compromise as you had to compromise a few things to get it.

Two examples straight off, - High mileage, given a bigger budget, I'm sure you'd have rather had a lower mileage example.

The engine, a great one, sure, but given your age, - again, budget comes back into it - any larger and you'd have started to take an insurance hit - not to mention mpg.

Comparing the 530i to an M5 is chalk & cheese, but I was just pointing out that - however unlikely - given ample funds to purchase & run one, you wouldn't have considered the 530i for one minute had that perfect e39 M5 been available at the same time.

Your numerous (justified) e39 M5 fanboy posts draw me to no other conclusion.

And I'd like to point out ,for the record, given a similar fat wad landing in my lap, I'd do exactly the same.

If only eh mate? :(;)

Not really, no - the lower mileage ones don't tend to have had the sort of use mine did and tend to be more shabby inside. Obviously I'd have taken a 10k mile approved used car but given the choice between an average mileage one at £12k or mine I'd have picked mine even if I had the cash for 3 average mile ones. The car I bought was several thousand under my budget, which I think shows this.

Again - not really. My typical mileage is low enough that I do not care about MPG - I considered the 540i Sport but discounted it on reasons other than cost.
