Are you "attached" to your car?

True Clarkey, but then you have to think... just how often will you use that extra performance?

I have trouble finding anywhere on a public road (legally) to make use of my 200 horses, let alone 400.

Looking down at your speedo to find speeds rather in excess of what you had expected is a common occourance even with only 230bhp. 400bhp is rather a lot more. And even if the cash is available, it must always be justified. None of us ever have an unlimited budget.

i dunno, Gibbo gave me a quick reminder of how a properly fast car feels like last week, that kind of power is like a drug, can never get enough of it.

Having the power is one thing.

Using it is another.

Misuse it and you'll find yourself in trouble. And if you have the power available, you're much more likely to make use of it.

More power therefore, isn't always a good thing ;)

Is yours a nail or ready for replacement or something? It's not easy to go out and buy a mint DC2 at the right price these days.

Not at all, but it could be replaced. Saying that i'm half way through some pretty extensive mechanical work with it, I may have a greater attachment to it after i've put loads of hours in doing that.

Great car, i'm not attached to it, and I can't really explain why.

I can easily get myself into a bunch of trouble with only 90hp though, i suppose with big power you just need a greater level of self control so you make sure that 80 or 90 hoon doesn't turn into a 150 one.

Thats the problem. Nail it down your local sliproad onto the Motorway in a 90bhp car and you get loads of engine noise and a big grin. Do the same in a 200bhp+ car and you are very rapidly the wrong side of your local constabulary. Combine this with refinement and it's often hard to even notice without looking at the speedo.

your mileage obviously varies from mine lol, when I nail it down the sliproad I get a bunch of engine noise and a big frown as "why am I driving such a crappy slow car" goes through my head.
And I know exactly what you mean about the not noticing thing even from the CSL which is supposed to be unrefined and actually does make an epic noise when pushing on. The speedo showed speeds far greater than I would have thought we were doing. I suppose this is the nature of an NA engine because in just about every turbo car i've been in, when that surge of boost forces its way through the engine, you KNOW you are going fast.

I'm sure in theory (Need to be careful here) you may have had great fun in that CSL on a private runway but imagine if it was a public road and an officer of the law drove the other way. You see my point? There is a fine line between fun and a stretch inside with Bubba when you drive a very powerful car.

Why of course, the law was abided by strictly at all times. Out of curiosity though, how fast would you have to go on a 60mph NSL road before you got thrown in the slammer?

I'm with Fox on this one (heaven forbid :p) Plus i like your new sig:)

I've had/have the money, but i still buy cars which make me smile and i like getting my hands dirty, vfm is where it's at :D

BUT i'd have to sell my SJ as we're running out of space for cars.

She just couldn't understand that i'd rather keep my SJ (even though i can't drive it right now) than flog it and get a different motor.

Anybody else have a connection to their chosen car? (or have i been hammering the codine too much this week? :p)

:D I love my Zook. After the work i have done on it & the fun i have in it Nobody is having it, It's Mine OK.
It also suits me perfectly
As far as Change goes then i am thinking SPOA & a Pug TurbyD shoved in.

I love my car. I would be emo if it ran away.

Strongly Agree.

I loved my old 318 so much, although this was eroded over time with things like BMW main dealers being useless, and having a few problems with it. Still, was sad to see it go. The M3 has been 5 years in the waiting, so I love that too.

But let's not get carried away here, I'm not naming them or anything. I'm not that insane.

Yes i am, Even ol Krusty.
Im still somewhat attached to him and still have it on a propperty sitting there waiting for me to pull him a part:p

Yep, that's where properly fast cars (as opposed to nippy or even fastish) cars require a different style of driving. Keep your foot down in a fast car and it can get very scary very quickly. My S3 will do 0-100mph in 13 secs, and hit the limiter in well under a minute, that means that you hardly ever bury your foot into the carpet for any length of time, there's no need to. The vast majority of cars you can happily bury your foot and not be too concerned about it, even my old car (a civic VTi) you could really. You can't in something like a S, RS or M car. I would even say that you could say the S3 (and similar cars) have a big excess of power that you very, very rarely use, and you could cope with something much less (say a 2.0TFSI A3, or a 330 or 530i rather than an M car), but usually there's other parts of the package that make the difference. (To bring a 2.0T A3 to the spec of an S3, or close to it (you can't get the same suspension etc) you end up spending about the same as buying the S3, and it will be far more compromised.

There is also a lot of fun to be had peddling a small, low powered car without great handling round B roads as fast as possible :D

As for the thread topic, yes, I'm attached to my car :)
