Are you doing anything with Hue?

We've got around 15 smart bulbs, mixture of Hue/Ikea/INNR, all paired to a Hue hub.

3x outside at the front and rear of house, inside some IP rated housings so we'll see how they fare (INNR and IKEA), on a sunset/sunrise schedule.
2x in office in uplighters, Ikea also linked to an Ikea "Puk" remote
2x Hall, Ikea, linked to a Puk remote and also controlled via a Hue routine
2x Master bedroom, Ikea, also on an Ikea remote
1x Dining room, only on Hue app
5x Living room, on a Hue remote and also on schedules

They seem to work very well together, INNR bulbs were the easiest to add by far, Ikea are a bit of a faff but I've used "lampfinder" if the hue app can't find them and they show up although you sometimes need to actually touch the bulb to the hue hub. Same for the remotes but I use Hue Essentials and add them that way before then pairing them to the Ikea bulbs. To my knowledge the Ikea remote won't work anything but Ikea bulbs.

Also got a few "smart sockets" running from Mi-Home that turn on some LED strips and a novelty light but currently can't be linked to Hue as Hue won't give out triggers for IFTTT. I believe it could be achieved with a smartthings hub but happy to just use on times for now.

I was just about to suggest smartthings.. I absolutely LOVE mine to the point where I think Hue would irritate me if I didn't have it.

Pretty much all of my lights are based around routines with motion and presence sensors at various times of day.

I just never think about light, it just follows me around the house when I want it.. It's lush and then for everything else there's Alexa :)

My last addition was a door sensor on the understairs cupboard linked to an Innr GU10 bulb in the cupboard... Door opens, light comes on.. door closed, light turns off..

Little things.. :)

Would you say the Ikea bulbs are the same as Hue from the perspective of how you can vary the temperature and brightness of light? Are they on a par quality-wise?

Think I will go IKEA spots on a Hue bridge if so.

Cheers

Wifes moaning her desk is in the front room is too dark to write on so wants a table lamp, anyone got any ideas of one i can get thatll take some kind of Hue bulb so i can control it with the rest of the front room lights?

Pop down to B&Q, Homebase or John Lewis and choose a table lamp she likes and purchase the correct Hue bulb - they do candle versions in SES :)

I got mine from B&Q and I have a Hue Candle lamp, as this takes SES fitting.

Our desk runs along most of one side of the front room, i want to be able to change it with every other richer colour bulb in the living room to add to the ambiance

Even so.. personally don't get colour.. feels like a gimmick.

Each to their own!

Yeah it is a bit of a gimmick, i enjoy it messing with different setups.
It's fun to put movies on for the kids and change the light colours to match, last night we watched Finding Dory with the living room setup different shades of blue and they loved it.

The Ikea bulbs seem brighter but don't dim as far down as the Hue bulbs. As far as colour temp I don't think there's much in it, certainly not that I've noticed. I only have the colour bulbs in the Ikea format but they seem to produce a decent range, I rarely use them as anything but yellowish colours.

@matt100 I think I'll have to get a smartthings hub, just waiting for one to be reduced.

Went to B&Q and got that desk lamp, get it home and the base is broken... annoying lol.
Got a Hue E27 coming on delivery today for it, but we bought another table lamp for the coffee table between the sofas so it can go in there until i sort this desk light out.
Also popped into maplin and they had the Light Strip + for £49 so grabbed one of those....don't know where to use it really, behind tv or behind my pc desk/monitor

I enabled the location detection on the hue app over weekend. Really cool coming home from work and knowing the lights will be on waiting for me. Nice how it knows to only do it if it's dark too.

One in the MM right now... they're periodically on offer but ideally you'd get the starter pack I guess so you have some sensors.

Hadn't thought of MM, that one is £10 more expensive than certain high street shops currently though, I very nearly bought the smartthings starter pack for £140 a few weeks back...
