ARGH!!! Phone died, no contact

What kind of insanity is emergency phone insurance? Either they're scamming the people underwriting the insurance policy. Or they're just selling you a phone for £60 and tying you into the contract.

I just signed a new 2 year contract the other week so I couldn't not get the phone replaced. £60 is a bargain to me , I was fully expecting to have to pay retail price on a new one. I have to have orange care added to my account at £6.00 extra a month for a minimum of 3 months but can cancel after that. I may end up keeping the cover though incase it happens again.

Aha. So they agree to replace the phone and charge you 60 + 18 + (whatever percentage of people keep the insurance (i'd guess high) x 18 x 6. Plus they get to salvage the contract that you may have just gone elsewhere and paid line rental. Makes economic sense, and it suits all parties.

They'll make about 50% profit on the insurance, so they'll get about 150 for it, give or take.

I was just thinking emergency life insurance.
"Excuse me, my wife just died."
"I'm sorry to hear that sir. If you bear with me I'll bring up her policy details"
"She didn't have one"
"I'm sorry sir, she didn't have a life insurance policy... I'm not sure what you would like me to do for you?"
"I want to take an emergency one out now. I know I'll need to pay 10 premiums up front"

:)
