Arma 2 multiplayer arranging thread

yer i agree with hammer, on most parts.. what i cant understand was how ppl was ending up all over the dam place :S like i said before was almost a impossible task to ferry ppl to and from airbase to LZ and then pick up all those who was scattered all over the map demading pick ups..

Thou some did help by marking there map and not giving grid refs

The reason I think that people get scattered is that they are n00bies and aren't on TS with us. If we had each patrol group in TS and one person within that group giving orders it would help. Also sticking to a long line of people would help rather than the team running randomly towards the objective. That's why there are reflective stripes on the back of the helmets to be able to see each other in the dark.

yer but dude one was over 200km away there was no way he ran all that way, he joined and 2 mins later was moaning for a chopper to pick him up, not even in a heli could he of made it that far, took me 6 mins to get to him at 250+ speed

and i could understand pick ups been in a area to and from a Hot zone but we talking all over the map heck even some OCUK teams was in strange places and i know there not noobish or tards

most annyoing thing as a pilot thou is gunners ... stop firing the dam gun!!!

This is just a suggestion as the server isnt mine and I dont want to peeve anyone off, But why not say, every Wednesday Friday and Sunday someone passwords the server for OCUK memebers only night (even label the server as well)

That way we can all get a fix of epic 30 man teamage with no nub jockeys.
This is a good point and something that was talked about, having regulars-only nights. Shadowze also had the good idea of having a training night. So I propose we combine the two...
We password the server, and the password is only given out on TS - this ensures everyone is on TS for some good teamwork. We could then assign 1-3 less experienced players with one experienced player, who could lead them into battle for the night and help out explaining things like how to use the GPS, MHQs, action menus, how to identify friendlies/enemies, what weapons to use and how to use ranging on rifles/launchers for example. Maybe also some of the more experienced pilots could help out with others flying skills etc.
Those that do not want to help or be helped can make their own squads and play as normal. We could do training for an hour or two, then normal gameplay but keeping the rest of the night as ocuk & regulars only.
Good idea/bad idea or any other suggestions?

no the reason why people got scattered is teh way the game spawns you. for example as soon as i joined the ocuk forum i was spawn in the middle of nowhere and i diddnt get any option to choose where i can spawn like other times.

Also there was no GPS and NO indication on where i was on the map at all!! Luckily someone else re spawned near by and knew where he was

I dont mind helping on piloting new ppl who wanna learn, my self would love to learn and become a danger in the a-10/harrier and venom and learn corpesmen

diddnt you say that the reason why the server is not password protected is because not a lot of us play this regularly? fair point if 30-40 of us play this a lot but because there is less then 10 regulars that play it, we need random people to make up the numbers so to speak.

Yes that is the reason it isn't passworded, because some people only play every other night etc. What is being suggested is a specific night, so if everyone is given advance notice hopefully people would make the effort to join as they'd be more or less guaranteed a good game with lots of teamwork and no teamkillers ruining it.
Its just a suggestion anyway, so if not many people are interested there would be no point in doing it :p

I vote for a training night, soon preferably.

Although I am learning quickly how a lot of things work, I know there is still loads of things I don't know. Heck there is probably things even the experienced people don't know, so at least we can all learn at the same time.

Thats a good idea, more organisation = great fun. L33 have we only got two admins (you and shadowze)? Last night showed we may need a couple more. if theres a cost implication to running the server I am sure that there are quite a few of us happy to chip in.

Ive said all I want about last night, it was naff. I would also like to add though generally, has anyone ever *not* captured a target? Its been great fun rolling up the enemy but dont they ever... well... win? As we become more proficient im hoping they put up a bit of a fight, maybe have a town that resists multiple attempts to capture it? lots of enemies trying pushes rather than 3 infantry as a counterattack? hopefully thats feasible.

As to people being bundled into certain positions, I am sure we have lots of eager people willing to fly but not getting the opportunity. A training hour / dedicated evening or two would be great to let people try other positions out.

Typically if a person is in the middle of nowhere use respawn, you shouldnt need to be chasing 1 person across the map.

There are just the two at the moment, its just a shame last night that nobody knew you could vote on the server to make someone a temporary admin. (#vote admin <name/id>), and vote to kick players #vote kick <name/id> - I'll update the first post with this info.
I don't think we've ever not captured a target yet, but some have taken over 3 hours before, and quite a few have been recaptured by the enemy after we've moved on. Again we can up the enemy difficulty but then other people complain again lol, never ending circle :p
I guess the only way would be to have two servers, one veteran and one recruit with full map/markers etc.

Guys I am building a new rig and I am very interested in this game. What are the online games like? Is it your typical death match etc? Can someone give me a brief run down on this? Seems like this is a co-op game? I am confused :(

Thanks

why not make it Friday and Saturday nights? i imagine a good chunk of us work during the week. i myself do so and cant stay on past a certain time as i wake up very early to head off work.

Also, when you respawn, dont you lose points? its like killing yourself

Instead of two servers which have extra cost why not just have dedicated days where we up the dificulty level?
