Arma 2 multiplayer arranging thread

was there ai friendlies in the server? it seems they was. i mean the heli pilots where acting like ai's and the fact that everyone around me was just standing there with there names all called "greetings"

Greetings is part of the action menu when you get close to another player, it is what it says on the tin (a greeting) - if you select it, you'll say hi or whatever :D
Personally, when on the server I'm just struggling with the following:
- What I'm supposed to be doing (the 'tasks' always say awaiting orders)
- Where my squad are (and who they are?!)
- Can't see any waypoints, indicators of any sort
So I sit waiting 10 minutes for an airlift out to the action, only to get about 200m from the base before we're shot down with what sounds like a single AK round :confused:

All of your questions are command related.

As a squady you dont get much information about your team mates (i dont know if you can press spacebar as a squady to see where your team are?). The team leader knows where all of his team are by pressing spacebar and can issue orders. If you dont have any orders issued from above there is no general task to complete, it just tells you 'awaiting orders'. So it feels like your a bit lost.

Basically, commanders need to know what they are doing and it was my first time last night on the game (and i unknowingly chose captain). I won't be around till later tonight due to Tennis, but hope to jump on and command a bit more! :D

Wombraider, was that second map we played a different config? It was pretty rubbish. It appeared to remove my players location from the map. It seems very hardcore for a new game. The first scenario thing we played was great.

I think tonight things will go better , I plan to make sure of it.
As in Aid to the Newer players , I think we should try some voice comms to co-ordinate things.

I have been playing OFP since demo and arma1 since the very first release in czec release ( try playing a game where every menu is a blind choice!)

Voice comms is something I have always used to help people work together , with
that in mind I suggest everyone gets a copy of teamspeak , its FREE.

Install teamspeak , plug in your mic and configure your device settings for input / output devices and your volume levels.

Server: I have access to a high bandwidth server , heres what to do
Start teamspeak to to connection menu -> Connect
In the local address tab , right click menu option ADD SERVER , give it a name eg frag
Click on it and add the following details

Address: ts.fraghaus.com:8767
Nickname: Enter your game name here

Hit connect , you will connect to the lobby ( as a new unregistered user )
Click on the SELF Menu at the top , then select REGISTER WITH SERVER
A new window will open Enter:
a login name
and a password twice
Hit Ok and you are registered

Now to store your details ,
Go to Menu Click Connect go to address book again and click on the server name
Add your login name in the login name box
do the same for your password

Click connect to test your details.
 
rgr that womb, ill jump on that later see how well it works out.

Also, do you have a profile for your trackir4 i could use? felt like i was drunk using any of my profiles.
 
i think i will give up on this server until someone can tell me what the hell is going on. a lot of us have enver played arma so we do need a helping hand here
 
Me too, I think we're going to have to lower the difficulty level because few people have any idea where they are, what the objective is and where their team are :(
 
The best thing is if you join Teamspeak, even if you dont have a headset, so you can hear what everyone else is doing.

The second best, is that wombraider changed the server map to something a bit easier which shows your position and friendlies etc.
 
it diddnt show where people was in my map last night. the big issue with this game is that there is no team work involved whatsoever. i was in a chopper flying around the red zone and was the ONLY guy in the chopper along with the pilot?? i bailed out and was in the hot spot so to speak. i killed one guy and got shot a minute later because i was there ON MY OWN.

come on where suppose to attack the red zone TOGETHER, not in pairs. we seriously need co ordination in this game and atm no1 is communicating in the servers and no1 is working as a team!!!

for christ sakes i got this game in hopes that people do work as a team but they dont and especialy in this server where most of us are from this forum and not a bunch of random headless chickens!!!
 
You are right. The first map when you came on the server was on Expert. Unfortunately there is a limitation with the servers at the moment whereby you can't configure it exactly as you want, its either Novice (can see yourself on the map and use 3rd person view) or Expert (no indication of where you are on your map, you have to use GPS coords, no 3rd person).

Then it crashed and Shadowze put it on to the AirCav mission in Novice mode and we all assaulted Zernokgovskyoksokssok. That went quite well!

But as I mentioned, get on Teamspeak with us if you want proper cooperation. Its impossible to reply to all chat messages. And remember if you die, your team are still out in the field. Its a bit of a PITA because you have to team up with randoms from other squads who may not be going where you want. Don't jump in a chopper with 1 other guy if you dont want to attack on your own.
