Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead

how would this and the old ARMA2 run on a 2.6core2 4gig ram and a gt260?

getting a bit bored with bf2/mw2 need something more like i like sim racing rather than arcade racers.

Medium settings you should be able to run it as i have the same graphics card but a i7 and run at high settings.

Also, your going to love this game. Blows away mw2/BC2 which i too got bored very quickly

Finally a game that hits the spot, iv'e noticed that MW2 is arcade style.

i need something were you need to plan your attack not just running and shooting.

I love games where you can get to view an enemies base from a hill top, over a mile away.

i watched one on youtube where he was a sniper crawling along the grass, he then perched on a rock and got killed by an enemy in a factory. AI looks pretty good.

so they have released 1.07 patch, liking what they say they have "improved" in the log.... is it true? better multicore support? uses more ram and cache size? etc etc..

ive updated but on the MP menu it keeps telling me the update is available :p

so regarding these new "improvements" is it time to alter the command line and things like cores=4 and maxmem=6gb? or just leave it as it is :p

Ok had a little go at lunch.

Taken into account that my CPU is pretty old it doesn't do too bad.
However you notice Supreme blurring.

this can be disable via Video>Advanced>Post Processsing= disable.

I have now left my pc to defrag, when you go into lots of building it does stutter so i would recomend anyone just about to play to Defrag your machine to get smoother play.

ah cool cheers :) gonna grab arma2 and patch it up to 1.07 and see how i get on with it first, then prolly get OA later on.

the 1.07 patch didnt give me a huge noticable fps boost but i play it maxed (except AA on low) at 1920x1200 with 45+ fps on chernarus (biggest pig map) and its much smoother. less jerky, no crashes yet and smoother texture loading when moving fast etc. so all in all a very good patch. :) as always BI are listening. oh and @ sasso you shouldnt need to mess with any target line parameters now. should all be good to roll. i did find one that seemed like it would help wich was -exThreads=7 but havnt done enough testing with/without to see the difference.

ALSO asides the obvious and wonderful ACE2 mod i suggest WarFX tracers and WarFX Particles as well as JTD smoke & fire mod and most importantly full screen NVGs (super awesome worth it)

Is this game similar to project reality in terms of multi player? i.e 32v32 maps, squad based with commander etc.

I'm also wondering how my 2.8 quad Core Xeon, 6gb, 5770 would handle this?

can you get all those mods through the six updater suite app or better off finding/installing manually? sorry arma n00b here :)

Project reality are actually making a mod for Arma 2:)

As it is now, Arma 2 is great for coop with others and doing long ass missions. Its great! In a nutshell it can certainly do what PR does but better. truelly no boundaries in this game

i too want to know if you can as well as its a pain keeping up to date with the 100 mods i already have installed lol

Finally got my OA dispatched, but is it true the British/Nato forces are going to be a future DLC?

But i also fully recommend everyone here to try the undead mod. It's more scary than other zombie games in so far that the zombie infection is organic in how it eventualy takes over the whole map, every civilian on the island is a goner after a while. Buggy but the atmosphere is quite intense, especially as the antidote doesn't work in multiplayer.

The game requires a REALLY fast system , no way in hell can you max out
settings with a decent screen res (1920x1080 or bigger) , you would need
to try out normal settings for most and then adjust as necessary

Your not wrong there, definately not optimised, at the moment I'm running on this:

Visibility: 3008
Quality Pref: Very High
Interface Res: 1920x1080
3D Resolution: 1920x1080
Texture Detail: Very High
Video Memory: Very High
AF: Very High
AA: Very High
Terrain Detail: Very High
Objects Detail: Very High
Shadow Detail: Very High
Post Effects: Disabled
Interface Size: Very Small
Aspect Ratio: 16:9 Wide

It runs smoothly at that, but if I push it a bit more it starts to stutter, I expected to be able to run a much larger Visibility range but I just start getting the famous mouse lag if I increase it by too much

All in all its an awesome game though, really enjoying it, proper sim

EDIT: Didn't know there was a patch already, how does that work with a Steam game? (excuse my stupidity just thought it all got downloaded automatically through Steam for Steam games)

sounds interesting, but how does it interact with campaign mode?

Doesn't in any way. Like any other mod it's just a seperate PBO file, the mod make did include a few single player misssions to try though, rest is for the editor.
