Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead

no just always get a lift, if your in the base or oa it shouldnt be a problem - unless your on a bad server (then id leave anyway)

dont do road takes to long, and don't forget about the teleport flagpole at your base, if an MR has been set up you can instantly tele there.

I believe he is talking about the campaign, and asking how to order the AI to fly him places.

As for online, suggestions like use tele flag etc are domination only suggestions. those arnt always avaliable! You say going by road is a waste of time and air is the way. Usually i agree but most of the best nights of domination are when we take a small convoy of about 4 light vehicles. Fill each one up with supplies, ammo, at4s stingers med supplie etc and then opperate out of the convoy. moving to AO/side missions completeing them then moving to the next. occasionally we might get a pilot to meet us in the convoy and take 4 of us somewhere usually a recon team. or sometimes a chinook drops in a repair vehicle or replacement humvee :) Can be really fun and immersive. and usually 100000x safer than flying with a random pilot.

Anyone still play this? thinking of getting either Arma 2 or OA, been playing "arma 2 free" was good fun apart from the retards tking and running around like headless chickens.

I'm hoping the full retail version will have some serious players?

I really need to get this re-installed, love playin chopper guy :) drop here, ammo there, lift over yonder. get enough points on some servers to fly a-10s, or cobra's/apaches and give support.

You may not get a lot of points oin it, but a lot of respect

Lots of milsim fanatics play Arma so yes. I cant think of anything more suitable that also has 50 player games

Its not a big scene and there is maybe mostly non serious stuff but yes its out there

Thats my plan too, I love flying around

When I said serious, I meant not Tking and calling art in your own spawn :D

This Demo has me hooked, about to click buy button on steam, would you recommend getting Arma II & Arma OA or just one of them, if so which one?

I will be looking to play on-line mostly so the more servers the better.

Most servers will use the maps from the older arma 2 so usually buy both as arrowhead is the newer game, you do need that. Its sold as combined arms

Thanks for the info, I will buy combined arms off steam now, any ocuk servers still up or SAS?

The flexability of this game amazes me! I started off with the Vanilla game and tried ACE but (unlike everyone) I didn't like it so went back to Vanilla + the Mods I liked -

Blastcore 1.2 for Visuals & JSRS for Audio (they work amazingly well together).
Rob Hammer (RH) Weapon packs (all of them).
Tier One, Black Ops, Rodgers 75th Rangers, SAS troops & ADuke TF160 SOAR Helicopters.
AIMedic (brilliant addon), AC130 Script & Zeus AI Combat (better AI) for immersion.

As I don't like the usual 4 SF vs 30+ enemy unrealistic missions everyone makes I made my own simple mission. 30 enemy attempting to blow up an oil refinery and the 30 SF have to stop them. Originally I had the SF on foot but that became a chinook for "speed", which then became 3 standard Blackhawks, which then became 4 TF160 SOAR Blackhawks Fast Roping (too easy to shoot them while Fast Roping), which then became 6 TF160 SOAR Blackhawks landing infront of the Refinery and 2 Fast Roping around the back where the terrain stopped a heli from landing. Then I added 60 enemy militia from the local village who come to have a pop, which meant adding 2 Chinooks with 50 US Marines as reinforcements, which meant adding 2 MH-6 Littlebirds to distract the enemy from shooting at the big chinooks. After all this I added an AC-130 to film the whole thing from above and act as fire support. and all that from a little idea about saving an oil refinery.

here's the vid I made of it (minus the AC-130, only just got that)

ACE is quite hardcore and difficult to get into alone but once you learn its advanced features it really enhances the game. However it is a multiplayer mod and should be played with a tactical unit. You will come to love it!

that said. nice video :D

Nice video janh going to try download few of those modes the sounds are great

Was trying to complete Arma 2 campaign today and it drove me crazy with the amount of bugs, I ended up using mission skip cheat to complete the last 2 missions unfortunately I just could not complete the game with all these bugs.

e.g

Squad members not moving at all
Medic does not heal
Squad members get stuck after cut scene
etc.....

Is Arma 2: OA the same? As i don't want to endure such campaign again.

It's 95% better but the vanilla OA game is still a little buggy (hence all the vast number of addons). I personally have only had 1 OA campaign mission go wibble but the original Arma2 drove me nuts!

Are there any mods to help the campaign be bug free or at least flow a bit better?

Glad you like the game IanH. I have been a big fan of Arma since the days of original Flashpoint and just like yourself, I enjoy creating 'realistic' missions where it is 30+ guys attacking/defending a positions against an enemy of 30-50.
Most of the missions have the player as bog standard grunt who has to follow AI officer orders (determined by triggers/waypoints). The enemy positions and waypoints are usually random with added dangers of wandering patrols.
I am not good at scripting, but I do have enough basic knowledge to stick a guy in a tower or a machinegun tripod on a rooftop with sandbags, since the standard command to 'stick the guy in a building window' is pretty flaky. I try not to dictate how the AI should play, as the AI is pretty could at doing it's own thing like popping smoke grenades or firing AT at mechs.
